What Pushed You Out The Door Of The Watchtower?

for me, it was realizing that nearly every prophecy or commentary on a scriptural passage has changed.

througout the years, it's been new light, old light and even blinking light.

We left for doctrinal reasons also. We were in it because of doctrine and we left because of it.

It was a gradual process, but there was one thing that stands out as a watershed point. The June 15/89 Watchtower and the Aug 15/89 study article discussed Ps. 45:16, "Princes in all the earth". These two Watchtowers say that the Ps. applies to both the faithful men of old and faithful men of today. The Sept 1/89 Wt study article applies this same Ps. to only the faithful men of today.

It's a small and relatively unimportant point, but it made us choose which one we believed. They couldn't both be right, obviously. It also pointed to a possible schizm in the writing dept. Once we gave our minds permission to doubt a Watchtower, the whole belief structure started to unravel.

Another eye-opener was that nobody around us seemed to notice the flip-flop. It really highlighted how well everyone was listening.

Why do dubs bother having children?

my mother in law had 4 kids and none of them are currently "progressing in the truth".

she flat out told my wife that she was sad that none of her kids were in the truth and that it would be a waste of time to have relationships with any of them because of that.

so why even bother bringing kids into "this wicked system of things"?.

To have an excuse for not pioneering of course. Otherwise the pressure will always be there. For a married woman, even the excuse of a job isn't enough. They just put the pressure on to "simplify" and quit work.

I am such a Boob!

to fill you in, i have to say that things have been a bit crazy here and i have felt overwhelmed.

in order to ease the stress, i concidered giving up my post as an officer of the charity organization i am in.... (not drop charity work) just drop some stress, because i feel the pressure of knowing that if i mess up on the books, we all could loose our job.

this makes me nervous because i am prone to dyslexic behavior.

LOL Sparkplug. I can see it wouldn't have been funny to you at the time. But, in hindsight it IS funny! I can't think of a specific instance of having made a boob of myself. I'm sure I have though. It's good sometimes to have selective memory.

Can You See ThatThere's No One Left To Do Anything Around The Kingdom Hall?

do you realize that now elders are forced to "set the example" and do menial tasks like mow the lawn, clean the bathrooms and "handle the mikes".

there's no one left!

I don't have any idea of what's happening inside the local KH. But it's in a rural setting and they've been cutting a smaller area of lawn. This summer they started rounding the corners of the lawn area instead of their usual squared off.

what are some other fads that you remember?.

Right, Jez. How could we forget the marketing schemes? Which brings to mind all the holistic healing fads that came but never went. Just kept multiplying.

LOL Tijkmo. I don't remember anything stating that the sisters couldn't have beards. I've seen a few with beards and they didn't get counselled.

One hall we attended seemed to have a thing for "gestures". Amongst the younger speakers they were always trying to "keep up with the Jones's" on the latest trend in gestures. A few were well connected enough to start the trend.

Mary, we didn't have anyone selling their homes though. I can't believe anyone would fall into that trap again after the 1975 fiasco.
