Please welcome my wife to the JWD
by Paralipomenon inthis has been an interesting week.
early in the week my wife started corresponding with one of her old friends.
he is no longer a witness and while i'm not sure what the catalyst was they started talking about why he left the witnesses.

We Are Dying!
by WeAreDying-Ophelia inthis is my first post and might be my only post, not sure.
i've chosen to "come out" for a moment just to talk about the 30 minute change in the public talk on sundays.
my father and brother are both elders, this change was a blow to them they enjoy giving encouraging public talks to the friends.

Welcome to the board, Ophelia. We quit going to meetings in the early 90's. They were already working at squeezing the life out of the congregations. Making the presentations at the doors nothing but scripts to be parroted. Dictating what types of gatherings to have. Taking away live music at the KH and assemblies. And, as has been mentioned, taking away the food at the assemblies.
There were myriads of little rules and regulations that killed personal initiative. I'm not surprised that the congregations are now dying. It's inevitable.

You wouldn't by any chance be reading the latest Harry Potter book? lol
To answer your question, no I've never experienced the "3rd eye", I don't want to and I tend to not believe in it.

Most Ex-JWs R Not Active in the Anti-JW Community. Maybe 1%? Any thoughts?
by Seeker4 inyesterday i called a family on the west coast that were in my congregation 18 years ago.
between parents, kids and marriage partners, there were six of them who had been witnesses.
they have all faded, and have had nothing to do with the witnesses for at least 15 year or more.. yet, none of them is in any way active even in looking at the ex-jw sites online.

I think you're right. We know alot of inactive, da'd and df'd JWs in our area and none of them are even remotely interested in what the WTS is up to right now. They're just busy enjoying the life they weren't able to enjoy before. I don't know if I would wish anything different for them.

I saw a member of the GB on the way to work today!!!!!!
by Warlock inactually, i didn't see any member of the gb on the way to work, either dead or alive.. what i do see on the way to work is this: if i look over to my left, i see the big, beautiful, pacific ocean.
on my way home, when i look over to my right, i see the big, beautiful, pacific ocean.
so while the rest of you are dodging deer, and gagging on diesel exhaust, i'm breathing-in the fine salt-air.. just thought you might like to know.

LOL @ Warlock and Heathen. Unfortunately for you, the only bikini-clad babe around was taking the picture. That's my husband's favourite part of the lake - my string bikini. And, there usually are waves. It was a very unusual day. Which made it a great day for paddling the canoe around.

Well, I'll admit that I don't have the smell of salt, but if I can get this picture to upload I want you to tell me if you pity me or not.

I don't think my attachment worked. I'll try again.

On fading
by lola28 inso i was thinking about this today and wanted to see what you guys think about fading?
for a long time i thought that this was the way to go especially if you wanted to maintain certain relationships be it with family or friends but lately i'm not so sure that fading is the best way to go and here is why.. the stress of having to go to meetings is some times overwhelmingthe amount of time you waste going to meetings when you no longer believe is time you will never get back, time that could have been spent doing something that you really do love, life is short why waste it in the hall?
the end results are the same if you are dfed, daed or fade.

Actually, we had two main reasons for fading and not simply saying, "not interested anymore."
1. employment
2. elderly relative

edited to say: Our fade however was very quick. We didn't slowly quit going, we tapered off a bit while we were coming to conclusions and then we simply quit all meetings and service.
