the american family found is hosting a conference in atlanta, georgia oct. 15-16, 2004. there will be pre-conference workshops on oct. 14 that will include participants like bill bowen and kimberlee norris.
the following info appears unders "presenters biographical sketches" on their website.. "william h. bowen is the president of silentlambs, inc., a non profit organization dedicated to helping survivors of abuse.
a second-generation jehovah's witness, he has been active in the movement for 43 years and served as an elder starting in 1985.".
This should be a good conference, with good discussion and press opportunity...

silentlambs is crying out for help in this one.
it seems due to a large public outcry by the community, a candlelite vigil is being set up in remembrance of the victims.
they are plastering this info all over the main page at www.silentlambs.com.
...such a sad end for those children.

if any one has been a regular such as i have in the silent lambs site you will have noticed it has changed for the worse..as of last week i decided to withdraw from my membership...the site was designed by bill to vent, explain and devulge abuse that we have witnessed or experienced..as in my case as a former m.s i had seen two coverups in my hall...the parents to afraid to go to the police and the elders screaming jehovah will leave them if they tell on the org is the crime i had to bare with..so i spoke up and left the org...silent lambs was for that reason...now.
it has mutated to a cheap lowlevel site for apologist and non witness who want to argue on unrelated topics..to top it off bill has given the site to an editor who is so silly and more involved than the participants why bother anymore....to bill..you lost your way...

I think what irritates me MOST in this realm (attempting to make a difference in the lives of abuse victims) is those who are all bark and no bite.
EVERYONE has character flaws; NO ONE is perfect.
But what do each of us do, ACTIVELY, to make a difference?
If you don't ACT on your passion, you lose the right to publish an opinion...

I don't know of anyone handling these sorts of cases in Canada, because the statutory law re civil court claims is so different there..
ANY report you make to police is protected; there's no lawsuit supported by any victim's action in reporting the TRUTH to law enforcement.
A certified letter to WTS or the congregation itself would AT LEAST put the cong and WTS on notice if others were/are being molested by the PO. Given the present climate legally, WTS might well pull him from his position of authority, in an abundance of caution, due to other bad press re other poorly handled situations.
Just my thoughts...

why is it our lot as former members of the watchtower organization to suffer so much emotional pain?
just when we think we have reached some level of putting it all behind us, something new pops up to bite us hard.
a couple that i have been very close to just sent me a very sad e-mail.
The thing is, it's a HEART issue...
If i lived my life tossed and swayed by the hate mail i get (and believe me, it comes...), i'd be miserable.
I don't. My security is in Christ alone, not the opinions of others.
I desire that my words be effective and useful, rather than destructive or harmful, but my words will not save anyone from himself/herself. Only God can do that.
Jim, if God puts them on your heart for prayer, then pray. Beyond that, let God be God, cuz "nothing is impossible with God."
