Just heard of yet another reason - WTS style - teens in Mexico working at Wal Mart are classed as "volunteers" and are unpaid workers!

I hate Walmart!
by Elsewhere ini rarely ever set foot in the place and will go out of my way to avoid shopping there.
tonight i made the mistake of giving walmart the benefit of the doubt and walked in the door.. they didn't have the main item i was looking for, but they did have one other small item.
i headed to the front to check out only to find they had only a few check-outs open and all of the lines were far too long.

30 Minute Public Talk-CONFIRMED
by stillajwexelder ini can confirm (as there seems to be some doubt) at the service meeting last night during the item about the new watchtower, a letter was read by the po.
the public talk is to be 30 minutes long.
this is to allow for more association and ministry.. lengthy negative introductions about the state of the system of things/deep last days etc are to be heavily curtailed.

Sounds like someone has finally gotton a clue. My comment to elders several years ago was that,
"if I hear one more talk of death, destruction, and judgement, I'll go running and screaming out of the kingdom hall!"
Oh, how my father delighted in proclaiming their messages of negativity until he finally killed himself with the bound volumes surrounding him. I wonder how he'd take this news.

Pirate copies of Knocking Director
by jwfacts ini just received an email from knocking director with the following message.. important copyright note .
please note that the knocking dvd is copyright protected and it is unlawful to make copies of the dvd, even if you are making copies for friends/family and have no intention of selling the copies.
there are reports that a number of people have been making copies of the dvd, under the assumption that it is ok for "educational purposes" or to give as gifts to friends and family.

Directors e-mail reads:
A film like KNOCKING has no chance to be shown on a commercial network like ABC, CBS, or NBC.
GOOD THING!
If not for PBS, there would be no place for a film like KNOCKING.
There's only one place for it - out, with the other 'trashy commercial media' he thinks he rises above .

My husband and I had been to an all-day outdoor dusty, dirty, event on Sunday - directly after that, we had tickets to a big concert in our city to attend.
Going from one event to the next, we ended up pulling into a tiny, obscure parking lot. Here in our truck we changed clothes and sat there munching on food out of our cooler and having a couple beers - when across the parking lot I see these two young guys walking towards us, in their finest suits. I knew instantly who they would be, as I realized the DC was this weekend, not far away.
My husband was in quite a state of undress at this moment and with the truck doors open - it would've looked like we were doing something "WTS illegal" - anyway....
I couldn't resist and said, "You guys need to get into some shorts and a tee shirt!"
One's response was a drawn out, "E G G S A C T L Y!!"
I said, "You must be witnesses" (No lapel badges were proudly being worn.)
"YA " (not spoken with enthusiasm)
To which I replied: "Ohhhh, I guess you're not allowed to. How cultish is that?"
By this time they were stepping into their truck, so I heard no response.
They then realized they were trapped in this tiny parking lot, as the exit, an alley, they felt was too tight for their truck to fit through.
No escape from apostates, they shuddered.

DID YOU DEDICATE YOURSELF BEFORE BAPTISM OR DID YOU LIE?
by free2think ini was just wondering when you where going through the questions for baptism did you know you had to dedicate yourself to jehovah before hand or did you lie?.
i didn't know i had to so when i went through the questions i had to lie and say i had.
i always felt bad about it afterwards and quickly did a little prayer that night.

I was never asked if I did 'dedicate myself', but when I heard it being mentioned in the talk for my baptism, I remember sitting there quickly trying to say a silent prayer saying, "I do", but I didn't, so I guess I lied. I didn't have a clue what it really meant anyway. Give me your life, or else? That's what I felt.

Breaking the news to my family this week....if I can get up the nerve!!!
by Juniper inso, here's the deal....i've spent the last two years riding the 'inactive' train and it's gone pretty smoothly.
but it's gotten to the point where i have to tell my folks that i don't intend to ever go back.
i've been putting it off because i know my dad will want to hear exactly why i want to do this, and then (obviously) try and 'reason' with me to think otherwise.. i love my family a lot, but i can't lie to them anymore and continue to blame my lack of meeting attendance on fabricated excuses.. i'm trying to find a way to just say that i don't want to do it anymore without having it turn into a theological argument.

I told my dad point blank, "I'm not coming back" as he tried to encourage me to return after taking what he referred to as the "break from the meetings" he assumed my family and I had taken.
I explained that we are now using our own brains. God given if they be - meant to be activated individually.
Just as there are no two snowflakes alike, who I am, differs from who you are, personalities are unique.
No one will convince me I should take mine off and put on a homogenous one. Everyone finds their own truth.
All the best to you

Thanks for the memories -
When i was a kid, we used to do the Morse code, between houses, out of our bedroom windows using flashlights at night to send messages to our friends. Lotsa fun.
Not that I know the Morse code, but we looked at our cheat sheet with the alphabet listed and did the dot, dot, dash, dot, dash, dot etc all night long.

Ha, new tactic I see ---- from the comments:
Had one of the witnesses come up to me at Barnes & Noble last night while I was reading a book on Buddhist philosophy. She gave me a bible and said, "you should really be reading this." I held up my book and said, "No thanks, it's against my religion." I knew she was from this group because she still had her name tag on.
So, who's up for hanging out at B & N, in the book aisles of philosophy, religion, psychology & self-help, romance novels, computer games, history, science (hell, the whole store for that matter) etc sections to do a little counter, or aisle witnessing of our own?
I'm sure many of them are lounging in the seating areas, with their Starbucks in one hand and WTS books in the other, waiting to pounce on us - of course, counting their time all the while in these cushy surroundings.
