A good question to ask jws, and an important realization for me.

one of the things that i could never rationalize is the way the jws all claim to believe the same things.

i mean seriously, you can't get 4 people to decide on dinner!

how are you going to get 6 million to agree on countless and everchanging doctrinal pronouncements.

none of them agree with all of the teachings. They all have things they disagree with.

So very true. Every dub has something that can be used to open their mind.

So then I brought this up to my wife. At first the cult personality resisted but she had to admit that she doesn't agree with everything. (...) She even muttered something about "many of these minor things just come from men".

Very good suggestion! It can be the first crack on the WT mould.

The Watchtower's Yearly Rejection of Jesus Christ

it's that time again - that special time of the year when 6 million jehovah's witnesses meet together to reject the.

symbols of christian salvation.. never mind that jesus clearly said "he that feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has everlasting life, and i shall resurrect.

him on the last day" (john 6:54) - in a plain reference to those who hoped in the general resurrection.. never mind that jesus is called the "one mediator between god and man" ( 1 tim.2:5).

How Passive-Aggressive Behavior Defeats the Watchtower

years ago, there was perhaps the most pathetic jw funeral talk in the whole history of the watchtower.. an old bethel brother named adam baurlein ( sp, not sure) had died.

he had a long history of alcoholism and misbehavior.. he had been at bethel so long that bethelite sons of former bethelites would inquire "dad, did you know this really old guy.

who drinks and tells dirty jokes?".

Welcome bonnzo! That was what I was thinking too. Compare the questions for baptism with the biblical account:

Act 16:30 Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
Act 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.
Act 16:32 And they spake the word of the Lord unto him, with all that were in his house.
Act 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, immediately.
Act 16:34 And he brought them up into his house, and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, with all his house, having believed in God.

Curiously, a few NT manuscripts add more info into the eunuch account in the empty verse 37:

Act 8:36 And as they went on the way, they came unto a certain water; and the eunuch saith, Behold, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
Act 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thy heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
Act 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.

That is full of Crap... I have a nephew and niece who have "infectious or a potentially fatal disease to others". They are little children. Cannot something be done legally about this? Can they actually ask people to name themselves as having diseases and why the HELL sould they have to inform the Presiding overseer. Is it his business at ALL?
Pissed me off.... really angry here.

Thanks for putting this together!! It's a lot of work!

The Sunday announcement said that the questions have been "simplified". And that's true; the questions are essentially the same but they made three basic modifications:

The questions had their sequence partly rearranged.
The parts were cut down from four to three. Now they'll only need three elders to review the questions.
They cut off some Scriptures that serve as "answers" to the questions. For most questions there are less Bible passages to "support" the WT doctrines, so the consideration won't be as lengthy as it used to be.

There are quite a few interesting small changes. I unfortunately don't have time now to comment on them, but one of the questions is new in this book and really stands out.

9. To avoid transmitting an infectious or a potentially fatal disease to others, why should an infected person (a) not initiate public displays of affection, such as hugging and kissing? (b) attend the Congregation Book Study at the Kingdom Hall if at all possible? (c) not react negatively when some choose not to invite him into their homes? (d) Why should a person who may have been exposed to an infectious disease voluntarily choose to have a blood test before beginning a courtship? (e) Why should one having a communicable disease inform the presiding overseer before getting baptized?

The WT is encouraging prejudice against those who are HIV positive because, rather than encourage Witnesses to show love to the "infected person," the Society is giving a free pass to the dubs to treat HIV-positive Witnesses differently.

So much for Christian love.
