  If "My Book Of Bible Stories" was a movie, what would it be rated?

  discussing movies at work this week, someone mentioned "sin city", a very violent film about honest cops, corrupt cops, and criminals.

  in this film, justice is administered harshly, and sometimes cruelly.

  however, the film also shows really evil people receiving "just desserts".

  I use the Jehu v. Jezebel story against anyone who tells me a movie is too voilent, etc.... I am not for gratuitous voilence, but most films do not

  even come close to the voilence of Jehu. Not only did he have her thrown out the window, HE STEPS OVER HER DEAD BODY, HE GOES INTO HER HOUSE AND HAS LUNCH!!!,

  AND ONLY THEN REMEMBERS SHE SHOULD BE BURIED BECAUSE SHE WAS A ROYAL, BUT THE DOGS ATE HER.!!!! The whole OT is nothing more than

  voilence and sex, rape, incest, intrigue, murder as a tool of policy, etc..... Nothing in it is suitable for children.

  I would rate the book NC-17 if I were on the MPAA.

  was the fact that if the law of the land called for segregation by class or race of people, the Society would conform. This means that if Jim Crow or Apartheid was

  the law in the USA, blacks and whites and hispanics would be segregated into different congregations based on their race. Technically, that would mean Sam Herd couldn't

  live in the same digs as the other GB or be in a congo with his white GB brethren. This was shocking to many there. The WTS would disregard principle for expediency. Gasp!

  This particular unit of study was presided over by Charles Jackson, a District Overseer, who is himself black.

  funny now that i read the bible without any man made ideas, this thought hit me in luke 15:20-24, remember this is one of the basis for "reinstatement" into the "christian congregation".

  is the year basis of coming back after attending weekly meetings really neccassary?

  also note that paul most likely written both 1st and 2nd corithians within a year span.

  Did it ever occur you were defiling your body too?

  "no smoking".... it defiles your body and goes against scripture.. so as a witness, when pushing this train of thought, did it ever occur to anyone that when ever you dug in to those fried eggs, bacon cheeseburgers, and gallons of icecream, you were doing the same exact thing?.

  smoking over a long period of time can kill you.

  eating artery congesting foods over a long period of time can kill you.

  so, from what i remember,...after armageddon, those righteous jw's who make it through will have to clean up the utter devestation.

  imagine 9/11 on a world-wide scale.

  they also (from what i remember) will not be miraculously perfect right away.

  I'm not cleaning up anything! I didn't make the mess, and I am not going to clean it up. Further, (and I have said this to some of my friends) if living forever means

  having to spend eternity with the bunch of smucks I have known in the Org. over the years, then I look forward to sleeping eternity away.

  The problem is like OTWO said: They will chose the Org. over you. They will betray your confidences to the ORG. It is one reason many men step aside.

  It offended me the way some brothers were talked about, and how even the intimate deatils of a person told in confidence to other elders were freely shared

  in a BOE meeting. The entire arrangement is unkind and unloving. I don't know of anyone with a conscience who can stay an elder for very long. I couldn't.

  Development of the 'meetings'

  i was wondering if anyone knew how what became the 'meetings' came into being.

  say from the time russell printed the watchtower, to congregations forming and a particular format being followed.. i guess this question arose in my mind because to become a member of a religion/organisation you have to comply to a set of rules or guidelines that make you more unique to that particular religion.

  the jw's have specific meetings, and this is one area i was curious to see the development of.
