Good for you, Anewme. If you want a fresh perspective on this I would suggest you read Adyashanti, a westerner who practiced Zen for 15 years. His writing is devoid of all jargon and ideology. He has some articles and sound files on his website.

Forget the 10 Commandments Follow the book of Tao instead....
by EvilForce inas another thread rages on and on over whether we'd be better off following the 10 commandments i would posit that we would be better off following the tao te ching (the holy book for taoists) rather than the bible or 10 commandments.
how many holy wars have been carried on by christians.
how many christians are engaged in war right now?

"However simplicity is not always easy to understand to achieve."
That's right - when you try to understand it simplicity gets complicated, complicated by the mind. I would suggest letting go of any need to understand it - why complicate it? Your very nature is what cannot be further simplified, but that nature gets 'covered up' by the machinations of the mind, by its near compulsive need to understand everything. There is no need to 'achieve' it because you already are it, though that may yet to be recognized.
When you see this need to 'know' arise and you recognize it a just another need of the mind/ego the possibility presents itself to not latch on to this need. The simplicity of what you are then becomes more apparent. Relax into the simlicity that you are by remaining present with what is, without the labels and judgments of ego/mind to complicate and distort what is.

Why do/don't you believe in God
by LouBelle innow for all the scientists out there this is not a question of proof or anything along those lines.
for my part i choose to believe in a god because i honestly believe there is one (though i did start doubting for a little while) i've always felt that there was more to our existance on earth - and that doesn't stem from me wanting to live forever or as a spirit, as i don't even know if that will happen.
i also believe in him because many many times when i could not carry on, on my own strength, i managed to pulled through.

What do beliefs for or against anything achieve other than cement in place one's sense of identity? What do they do other than present a target for those who have opposing beliefs? What do they do other than provide one with a conceptual framework to to view the world or oneself, and to defend oneself or attack others?
What would happen if one were to investigate the nature of the one who would hold any belief? A belief provides a viewpoint, but to whom does this viewpoint present itself? Who is actually latching onto a belief or rejecting it? This seems to me to be a critical issue, but it is an issue which most people never even consider.
The most basic belief is the belief in "me", and everything revolves around this belief, but just who is this "me" anyway? If one is willing to actually look for the "me" what is discovered? Can anything be found outside of a bundle of ideas of who "I" am? Surely there is something transcendent to each idea of "me", something which is always here and which precedes and remains before and after every idea of "me" arises. Discover directly for yourself what this "something" is and then see if there is any need to believe or disbelieve in anything, including whatever "god" might be.

Should I go..
by poppers into a kh service just to see what it's like?
is it even permissable - would i need 'clearance' from someone?
i've never been a dub and have absolutely no interest in studying with them, but i've come to know some exjws on jwd and consider many here to be friends.

Thank you for your replies. I think that most who go to a kh out of curiosity are probably looking for something to believe in, not having found that inexpressible 'something' elsewhere. In my case, I have discovered that place 'within' where beliefs no longer exert a foothold, because that place is my true nature. That place is a place of peace, contentment, and wholeness, and nothing outside of the infinite wholeness that I am can hold a candle to it. So I can't conceive of myself getting sucked into anything so confining and limited as the JWs. There is a curiosity, however, in the place that has spawned my JWD friends.

It would be interesting to wear some sort of crucifix pin; nothing ostentatious, but something that doesn't make it look like I am am deliberately onto them, and then see how long it takes to "set me straight" with the suggestion of a bible study or something.

How I got out of JWs, they showed me the way!
by out of the box ini have been writing 'my story' in bits and pieces here.
it was pouring out, one of the kids sick, jw husband wasn't going.
i got in the car (this little hatch-back car was a loaner from the garage because our larger car was being repaired) i was stopped at a stop sign and i was on time for the meeting.. i heard something and turned in time to see something coming at me fast.

Out of the box - that was some story. I am glad you have escaped. For those who still remain in, even if it is a "comfortable" box, it is still a box. Too bad that they can't see this. Prison bars made of ideas is much stronger than those made of iron.

what do ex jws become
by jwfacts in.

-

Welcome jwfacts. "And since we all need to be labelled, what do i call myself now?" Where does this thought come from? May I suggest that you see what happens if you put no labels on anything, including yourself? Why confine who you are to some arbitrary label?

What do YOU know about the power of the mind?
by Frannie Banannie ini've a little experience in the past with what my mind has done to create a reality for me that would help me resolve or overcome my fear of leaving the cult, but i'm interested in what experiences or actual knowledge any of yall have on the subject.
it seems mind power may well be a resource well worth tapping into.. what are yall's thoughts on this subject?.

"I've a little experience in the past with what my mind has done to create a reality for me that would help me resolve or overcome my fear of leaving the cult,"
All fear is mind-based. Certainly that is a power in itself. If you are interested in "paranormal" abilities read Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. But he also cautions that acquiring such abilities is spiritually dangerous because they tend to make one more egotistic.

Welcome to JWD Luke. I am sure you will find lots of support here. In the meantime, to help get your mind off of things may I suggest you decapitate a few parking meters and follow that by seeing how many hard boiled eggs you can eat in one hour.
