In 70 words or less - Tell one person the 'truth about the Truth'...
by AK - Jeff inwithout use of profanity, vulgarity, or sarcasm.
tell this hypothetical person who is still a dyed in the wool witness clearly why he/she should leave.
do it in such a way that he/she will not bolt for the door screaming "get behind me satan" - in other words, use tact to anti-witness.. jeff

Your very nature IS peace - there is no gaining it. Dis-cover your true nature and you have dis-covered "inner" peace; you will find what was always here. Living life while unaware of your true nature subjects you to the whims of ego/mind and its conception of what "inner peace" is.

Only in Seattle. (it only took me 2 edits to correctly spell a 3 word phrase - now I'll be sleepless in Wisconsin)

In an attempt to lighten the mood around here...
by Billygoat in...i thought i'd share this joke.
it was getting a little crowded in heaven, so god decided to change the admittance policy.
the new law was that in order to get into heaven, you had to have a really bummer day on the day that you died.

Great joke! (Everyone around me momentarily looks at me while I shriek with laughter!)

Why 1914 is utterly true (and so is 607 B.C.E.)
by Terry in1914 is a very significant date for true believers.
faithful and eager students of the scriptures figured out (and "proved") jesus would return to kill the wicked and reward the meek in 1874. the signs were obvious.
but, it didn't happen.

What did JW teaching do to your view of God?
by thom induring the last few years that i was a jw i formed an opinion more and more of how i thought god was cruel and didn't understand or care about how his actions affect people.
i started to believe that we humans were just his little play toys and like a mean kid, he'd just kill off some now and then for whatever reason without any concern for his "toys".
in wondering how he could justify killing so many at armageddon, killing so many in the time before jesus came to earth, judging people who are in an imperfect state just because they happen to live at the time of armageddon but everyone else being judged in a perfect state without satan's influence i started thinking that he really had no concern for people and maybe even enjoyed the thought of those who would be "weeping and gnashing their teeth" right before they die forever.

"I have drawn closer to God. Before being a Witness I had no idea of who God was. Now I know him pretty good. He is the God i want to worship." You "know" him pretty good, or do you "know" an interpretation of him?

Too afraid to be free?
by wanderlustguy inbeing raised in a cult and having everything planned for you, all questions you have either answered or forbidden, and your future planned out for you almost to the hour, is it that unreasonable to say you could be afraid to be free?
case in point - me.
as soon as i was away from the home i grew up in, it wasnt 6 months before i was engaged.

"We create drama because we are comfortable with it."
This is very true. The drama we create, good or bad, is quite handy because it helps to maintain one's sense of identity. I would encourage you to explore who you really are - who is this "me" who seems to need to have drama in his life? What is it that lies beneath all of the ideas of "me" - what is it that precedes and remains after all ideas of "me" fade away? You are on the cusp of something life-changing if you are willing to find out. -

I absolutely love Fawlty Towers, ever since I first saw them on PBS back in the 70s I think. Recently I bought the DVD of the entire series (something like $59 US dollars). I was surprised there were only 12 episodes. What's nice is that you can put on the subtitles - something very handy in picking up on Basil's aside comments. The DVD has some nice extras too. A truly great series.

Has anyone ever been to a Christadelphian meeting?
by twinkletoes insince i have been out of the jws, i have found the freedom to look into other beliefs.
i remember when i was in the org.
how they used to say that the christadelphians are so similar in beliefs to the jws that they must be controlled by satan, especially as they do not beleive in satan as a person/individual.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire. No matter what religion you go to, you will simply be shifting away from one set of beliefs to another. Where does it say you need to rely on a set of beliefs? Have you considered dropping all beliefs and simply living in the present moment?

Are You Happy With Your Life???
by minimus inbasically, are you happily single, married, divorced, separated?
do you wish that your life could be happier?
do you believe that life sucks and then you die, anyway?
-

Single, never been married, and happy.
To Ellie: you said, "sometimes I do wish that I could stop letting my past drag me down,"
The past only exists as memory, memory is nothing but thought, thought has no real substance and therefore poses no real threat, only imagined threat; imagination is only thought - are YOU thought or that which witnesses thought? Let the past go since it is dead and gone anyway - all there is is right now; stay here in the present moment where everything is fresh and new and unspoiled by the mind.
A very wise man, Bob Adamson, has written a book, "What's Wrong with Right Now, Unless You Think About It" - he describes how we create our own suffering through the thought process; discover that which witnesses thought and you become free from your past, free from suffering.
