As a "therapist trainee"(still have to take my license test) I worry about all of the religious people out there who might commit suicide if the Rapture/Armaggeddon does not materialize. What if the Bible is proven to be "a big fairy tale" will Born Again Christians(bac) and JWs kill themself? I worry about some of my older JW relatives that have waited for Armaggeddon for 50 years and are still waiting. My mom and aunt both were baptized in the 60s and as of today still believe Armaggeddon is around the corner. I have basically given up any hope for my mom who is 84 years old to seeing the light about the WT. But I have family members who are born agains and they have the same "delusion" about the Rapture be around the corner and waiting to be taken up to heaven with Jesus. Religion really destroys a person's mind and thinking abilities. Any words of advice from posters on this question. And please no WT-bashing I am coming from a therapist point of view.

if the wt ever changes, it will be because of a movement such as this.. .
but sanctify the christ as lord in your hearts, always ready to make a defense before everyone that demands of you a reason for the hope in you, but doing so together with a mild temper and deep respect.

I have read better stories in the "National Enquierer". There is no way the Bethel reps would have left so calmly without there being some disfellowshipped or reproved. Especially the so called annoited children. Some of them probably were not even baptized yet. Come on this is another example of "franitical" apostates lying to make JWs look bad. You do not have to lie on JWs they do enough dirt by themselves. When apostates make up stuff they only make JWs look right when they say apostates will lie in order to deceive questioning JWs. Tell the truth please and no more Tabloid drama.

Trinitiarian "proof-text" John 20:28 has some problems for "Trinitarians"
by booker-t inall through my years as a jws and after i have always wondered about john 20:28 where thomas says "my lord and my god" to jesus.
i just could not find a suitable answer for this text to disprove the trinity doctrine.
i really never swallowed the jws intrepretation of "shock" by thomas something like "oh my god" but at the same time i had a gut feeling trinitarians were hiding something about this verse.

Magnum I liked the way you explained it because I was totally confused about the vocative/nomative issue. I am so glad you are honest and admit No one was being addressed Jesus or Jehovah because most trinitarians do everything they can to cram the Trinity doctrine down your throats and omit telling you everything. Case in point some born agains still quote 1 John 5:7 even after many scholars have said this verse is "spurious" and should not be included in the bible. But to prove the trinity they will omit informing people of this. And John-Mann you mention the Holy Spirit having "feelings" to show the Holy Spirit is a person. Time and time again it has been shown that "personification" is rampant in the Bible. Or we to believe that the "wind" is a person because Jesus is said to "rebuke" the wind. The wind has a "will" the bible says but only a person can have a will. So the wind is a person. Also, David "Sinned" against heaven the bible tells us. But if I remember my David and Bathsheba story correct David sinned against Jehovah. So "Heaven" is a person of the trinity doctrine now. The list goes on and on. James tells us not to "lie" to the truth. According to trinitarians only a person can be "lied" to so "truth" is a person. There is a whole list of "personal" qualities for "love" in the book of Corinthians. Love is "patient". Only a person can show patience. So please John-Mann that tired old argument for the Holy Spirit needs to be updated.

All through my years as a JWs and after I have always wondered about John 20:28 where Thomas says "My Lord and My God" to Jesus. I just could not find a suitable answer for this text to disprove the Trinity doctrine. I really never swallowed the JWs intrepretation of "shock" by Thomas something like "Oh my God" but at the same time I had a gut feeling Trinitarians were hiding something about this verse. I finally received my answer from of all people a JW's elder who is fluent and teaches Hebrew at a University. We argued for months and while I agreed with him about the trinity I still felt JWs were wrong on a lot of things. He explained to me(I am paraphrasing) that John 20:28 Thomas was not directed this phrase to Jesus because in the Greek whenever a person was being addressed as "My Lord" it was always (Mou Kurie) and not (Mou Kurious). At John 20:28 it Thomas says (Mou Kurious) so he explained to me Thomas may have been talking to Jesus but he was directing it to Jehovah God. A parallel verse he brought up was were Jesus says to Peter "Satan" and if trinitarians argue My God has to be directed to Jesus then they will have to say Peter is Satan the Devil. The JW elder has told me not one person from the Born-Again/Trinitarian community has been able to dispute this. So posters are Trinitarians being deceptive about the truth being John 20:28?

The bible "never" says that Jesus was a "virgin" so he could have been married?
by booker-t ini have always wondered what if jesus and mary magdeline were married?
how would it effect or change many christians/catholics/jws/etc mindset on marriage and virginity.
if jesus was indeed married it would prove to me that he was human and we do not have to beet ourselves up for having human feelings.

Many Catholics have made a mockery of the idea of marriage and virginity. Priest and Nuns should be free to get married and have a mate at last.

Why don't Born Again Christians include themselves as "Cults"?
by booker-t inwhen i see or hear born again christians calling mormons, jws, 7th day adventists, jews etc; cults i always have wondered is that not the pot calling the kettle black?
i just amazes me how so much in denial bacs(born again christians) are.
they love to condemn and throw stones at others but they will never, never, and i mean never label themselves as cults even though they have some of the weirdest beliefs.

Clambake, you are a perfect example of "being in denial" that I mentioned in my post. You sa "BACs don't have mindless obedience to human leadership" have you watched all of the "tv evangelists" demanding members give money in the collection plate? If this is not mindless obedience to human leadership than I must be the Easter bunny. I know some elderly people that barely can pay their rent and give to these tv evangelists. You also said that being born again does not destroy lives and families" tell that to the millions of gay and lesbian people that have been thrown out by the BAC families around the world and come back to me and tell me what you think. And you mentioned that BACs don't require additonal holy books or prophets to understand god's word" If a church member goes to the Pastor and tells him he does not believe in Trinity, or the Virgin Birth that member is immediately called a "heretic" and controlled by Satan. Wake up Clambake! You are kidding yourself.

My "Lesbian" school mate said a "Pastor" is sexually harassing her.
by booker-t ini go to school with a girl who is an open lesbian and our classmate who is a methodist pastor at a church and she said he has been "flirting" with her for months.
he is married with 2 small children and he invited both she and i to his church.
she told me she refuses to go because of the "harassment" and she was wondering should she tell his wife.

He is married with 2 small children and he invited both she and I to his church. She told me she refuses to go because of the "harassment" and she was wondering should she tell his wife. I told her not to get involved in a marriage like this and to tell the Pastor she will report him to the University Dean's office if he does not stop flirting with her. She told me he has made comments such as "After sleeping with me you will never want to be with women again" and "The penis is better then the vagina". I was shocked and angry after she told me this because I don't care what a person's sexual orientation is nobody has a right to harrass you. Posters should she tell his wife or the Univesity Dean?

They love to condemn and throw stones at others but they will never, never, and I mean never label themselves as cults even though they have some of the weirdest beliefs. I remember one born again tell me "Her adultery is different from so and so adultery because she believes in Jesus and so and so does not believe in Jesus". I looked at her and said "Are you serious?" Many born agains are under the belief that "once saved always saved" and they can do anything under the sun as long as they believe in Jesus. This has to be the most dangerous heresy in the christian church. The bible teaches us in many places that God and Jesus are more harder on believers then non believer when it comes to deliberate practicing of sin. God wiped out the Isarelites after Moses came down from the Mountain after they were worshipping the Golden Calf. There was no "once saved always saved" in this account. That is why so many people are disgusted with religions and christianity because they do not practice what they preach. It is easy to throw stones at other groups but they need to clean up their own back yard. I am so glad I am not under this religious nonsense anymore. I used to do whatever the JW's and BACs told me to do before I woke up and smelled the coffee. It is so good to be free.

The "Great Crowd" at Rev 19:1,6 are said by JWs to be "angels"
by booker-t ini don't usually do it anymore (debating with a jw) but my co-worker is a "devout" jws and she just always want to talk about the bible with me.
i try to avoid her because i just realize it is a "waste" of time trying to show the jws anything negative about the wt society.
i believe everybody has a right to belong to whichever religion or faith he or she wishes, but talking to a jws about their beliefs just goes in circles.

I try to avoid her because I just realize it is a "waste" of time trying to show the JWs anything negative about the WT society. I believe everybody has a right to belong to whichever religion or faith he or she wishes, but talking to a JWs about their beliefs just goes in circles. Well she wanted to talk about the 144,000 and the great crowd. I asked her to read Rev 19:1,6 and she did but she immediately argued they were "angels" and not the same Great Crowd mentioned in Rev 7. I guess it could be argued that there are many "Great Crowds" mentioned in the bible and they all are not the same. But I asked her why would St. John say Great Crowd in Rev 7 and not just say "angels" if he meant "angels in Rev 19? He could have easily said "And I heard a sound of many "angels" but he specifically says "great crowd". Well my coworker grabbed her "Reasoning book" and showed me where the WT says they are "angels" and she told me "These men know more then me". I said "Sue it has been nice talking to you about spiritual matters, I can tell you have a real zeal for doing the right thing". I have not spoken to her about the bible since. It is a waste of time talking to a JW. I suppose in another 10 years they will come up with a "new" reasoning book where they will tell peoople the Great Crowd of Rev 19:1,6 is the same Great Crowd from Rev 7 because they have received "new light" and all reasoning books from 1985 will have to be destroyed.

There are some questions I have had about the JWs view "post-Armaggeddon"
by booker-t ini have always wondered how jws believe about "post-armaggeddon" earth.
question#1 how will jws survivors bury all of the dead bodies.
with about 4 billion people on earth today how can 8 million jw(1/2 of them children and babies) bury all of those dead bodies?

I have always wondered how JWs believe about "post-Armaggeddon" earth. Question#1 How will JWs survivors bury all of the dead bodies. With about 4 billion people on earth today how can 8 million JW(1/2 of them children and babies) bury all of those dead bodies? And where will they bury them? The earth most likely will be a total disaster so where will JWs survivors get the tools to dig graves? I have been told years ago by elders that Jehovah will cause the birds to come down and eat the human remains. But if the birds are going to act will and start eating dead bodies wouldn't they start attacking JWs that are trying to bury the bodies? And the smell how will JWs stand the smell of 4 billion dead bodies especially when the sun is out and it is hot. What will JWs survivors eat to live. Wouldn't all the vegetation be ruined by Armaggeddon? Will they eat meat? These are just some interesting questions that sometimes make me believe that Armaggeddon is just a "big" fairytale.
