I used to love watching SNL. I can recall a couple of conversations on Sunday mornings with others my age ("Did you see what Joe Piscapo did last night!? It was hilarious!!"). I don't recall hearing any prohibitions about that show. What I DO remember at that general time was a lot of guff from the microphone about disco & sinful dancing.

Movies and TV Shows You Didn't Watch Because You Were A JW
by minimus inthis week i mentioned how i never saw the movie "ghost" because it was considered "demonistic".
i also volunteered that that i could not watch "bewitched", although "i dream of jeannie" was a conscience matter......any thing you didn't watch because you were a witness?

Would you wear a crucifx?
by orangefatcat inmy wonderful husband knows that i have been a religious person most of my life and while he despises jehovah's witnesses with a passion, he knows that i still believe in god and christ.
he being a greek orthodox and a wonderful human being he bought me a beautiful crucifix of jesus on a cross.
it is black stone and silver and says on the back of the cross, alpha and omega.

There's a gold cross hanging in our dining room, and it has two gold rings on it. It was a wedding gift. (Of course, we were married at St. Francis of Rome Catholic Church.)
But I wouldn't wear a cross as jewelery. Mrs. O is Catholic, and I'm not ... so she sometimes wears one. The only jewelry I consistently wear is a wristwatch. An earring every now & then, but that's about it.

Why not pull something together out of the bogus WT covers on this site & e-mail him an "advance copy" of something the WTS is "working on right now, as our latest batch of timely spiritual vittles".

I think it was Wonder Woman who finally corrupted my faith. All I could think about was Linda Carter in that outfit, tying me up with her golden lasso & getting "the truth" out of me.

God created only us?
by Dan-O inin the thread on 'which tv shows did you not watch because you were a witness?
", the comment was made that x-files was off the list (in part) because it involved aliens, and 'god created only us'.. now, i'll grant you that i've not attended meetings for about 20 years now, but i can't recall hearing this line of reasoning before.
when did this "new light" get a fresh bulb?

Any "speculation" about ...
No doubt ... It was always my experience that any speculation, questioning, doubts, etc. was certainly off limits.
On the other hand, The Bible is also very explicit about God having sealed up quite a bit of information that would be revealed in His time. And the Bible does not, to my recollection, explicitly state that God did not create life on any of the other planets throughout the universe ... just that man was created to live on earth. Or did I miss something in my Sunday morning naps all those years ago?

I'm lost ... what was the reasoning behind "No X-Files"?
I didn't watch the show often, but are extra-terrestrials evil?

Bewitched was definitely off limits when I was a little kid. Ditto for Dark Shadows.
And all of the post-apocalyptic movies of the 60s & 70s ... Planet of the Apes, Omega Man, etc ... were passed off as a waste of time and a poor entertainment choice because "Jehovah would never allow such things to happen to the earth."

Suppose God is....
by Larry insen. robert f. kennedy, in look magazine said "but suppose god is black.
what if we go to heaven and we all our lives have treated the negro as an inferior and we look up and he is not white?
what then is our response?

Even as a child, I thought that many publications' portrayal of Jesus and his disciples as blue-eyed, fair skinned guys was laughable. Seems like everyone I met who was of Middle Eastern origin was a lot darker ... not black, per se, but certainly olive skin & dark eyes.

My first meetup!
by SC_Guy ini met my first ex-jw today.
i could hardly get any sleep last night and kept waking up... armageddon nightmares were bugging me.
my family had left that morning for the entire day, and it was perfect for getting out of the house... i had already planned meeting waiting's son and his partner at a local starbucks in the morning.

I think I met my first x-jw about 4 years ago (except for immediate family members). I was at a company sales meeting with other managers from all across the northeast & midwest. And I was yacking at the nearest ashtray wih a gal from one of our other regional offices ...lo, and behold, ... she had also grown up as a jw. I think my jaw dropped to the patio stones. We chuckled for a while over some shared experiences, and the reasons for our individual departures.
Anyway, welcome to the club.
