  No compassion during Bible Study

  i was remembering today about a bible study an elder's wife took me on once (actually, her elder husband was the congregation overseer).

  after the chapter was over for that day (i think the knowledge book), the elder's wife asked when we could arrange the next study.

  the frail single mother of three evaded the question, and the elder's wife persisted.

  Aloha to you! We were just there two weeks ago for our honeymoon. We spent one week on Kauai. One week is definitely not long enough. Five seems more than adequate.

  Lost our Kitty...

  you remember about a month ago i had asked you all for ideas on how to deliver johnny cats medication for hyper-thyroid issues (which worked beautifully, thank you!)..

  well, it finally happened... we took johnny cat in to the vet because he was having seizures.

  it scared the crap out of us when it happened.. when we got there, the vet told us he had lymphoma and it would only get worse rapidly.

  I am very sorry for your loss. I know how painful it is losing an animal -- especially one that you had for such a long time.

  instead of them disappearing and not knowing what happened

  Just this past February we lost a 17 year old cat (I had come into her life for the last two years). One day she disappeared and never returned. There is an open field by our house and I like to think that was her final resting place.

  I found a woman who just lost her cat of 22 years and she is taking two of my kittens. I don't know that if that helps with the pain, but she is very eager to get the little guys.

  Boring talks - elders not invited again

  i heard today, the most boring talk ever.

  speaker had zero enthusiasm and zero modulation.

  it was awful and many others thought so too.

  My father thought he was a comedian and used the platform as such. His talks were rather funny and 

  not too dull.

  At one congregation he was pulled aside after the meeting and was told that he used "too much humor"

  Guess they wanted the cookie cutter speaker.

  Oh no! Janine Turner is the new Herpes Chick!

  janine turner played mary margaret 'maggie' o'connell in the series northern exposure (one of my favorite shows)... recently i saw her in a commercial for restasis, a herpes medication.

  i thought maybe she was just doing a one-time deal, but when i checked the restasis website (http://www.restasis.com) and there she was on the first page!

  apparently she is their new primary ad actor!

  Elders will not marry couple

  my mother has a friend in another congregation.

  she has been dating, and is wanting to marry.

  here's where the "problem" comes in.... the guy is 20, she is 33. the elders have decided that they should interfere.

  It was my understanding that if a dub married a non-dub, that was not a disfellowshipping offense. However, the person may be "marked" by people in the congregation. But if they are both dubs and get married by a JOP -- what can they DF them for?

  PS The biggest age difference was when a 25 year old man married a 68 year old widow. I kid you not. When I first met them I thought he was being sweet by sitting next to his grandmother at the meetings.

  JWs not shunning you after you left the org?

  after you got disfellowshipped or disassociated yourself were there any jws relatives or not that refused to accept the shunning policy and at least secretly (or perhaps openly) kept up contact with you?

  When I was DF'd at 19, my best JW friend continued to talk to me (secretly of course). However, when push came to shove she admitted it to the elders and I stayed DF'd longer -- nothing happened to her. My mother continued to talk to me, but that is pretty much it.

  Now my same friend is still my friend and we are both inactive and none of my family talks to me (I am no longer DF'd). Although I have sad moments about losing my family, I really think my life has become a lot better since I no longer have their influence in my day to day activity.

  we've been expecting it since the memorial, and i was hoping it would come by registered mail so .

  i could refuse it, but noooooo, it comes in a normal first class envelope.

  toughest question anyone can ask, if the love of your life, and mate/wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend messed around on you, whether it be once or for years, how would you handle it and what would you do, think about it slowly and carefully.. wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy.. it's said that 50 % of marriages are affected by an affair, it's probaly alot higher.. did you notice any affairs in your congregation ???.

  i look back now, and think, oh yeah there was.

  If it was a one night stand then it could probably be forgiven, if feelings come into things then a definate permanent breakup would be called for.

  You really don't know how you will react until you go through it though. Seriously, I felt the same way until it happened to me.

  True. I do not know what I would really do unless I had to go through it. I am a very forgiving person, but I am also stubborn and I just do not think I could be with someone who wasn't faithful. It would be painful either way.
