Congratulations. I loved the photos -- you look very happy together.
And Six -- did you watch the last season of "The Next Food Network Star"? If so, you look exactly like Michael who made it to the top five.

so, i have a friends bday party at a pub to attend this evening.
she's been a friend of mine since about february.
she bartends at the pub i spent alot of time at before i moved to my new place in may.
Third time is a charm! The art gift certificate is the best idea. It's personal, yet not too. No card needed, just sign your name. How good of a friend is she? From what you've described, $25 is a good number.
Before I even scrolled down to read the replies, the above was my thought. $25 is the right amount for someone you are not super good friends with. I generally get a $25 gift card to Starbucks if I don't know or spend a lot of time with the individual.

anyone have one of the old pink songbooks?.
or know how much they pop up for on ebay?.
How about this chart topper:
This is Jehovah's Day...
This was one of my favorite songs to sing! (as if I could sing)
Much better than "There's Balsam in Fair Gilead".

how do your minds work people??.
the word 'cult'.
who is comfortable saying they were raised in a 'cult' or were brainwashed temporarily by a 'cult'?.
Count my vote for it being a cult. I truly believe that it is.

i have been hear for about a week now, and have not been is such a strange mental place since i was a witness.
it has been good, the programming still kicks in however, but i'm getting less and less afraid to reason with it.
i got my coc book yesterday.... i sat looking at it and thinking of all the years i avoided it, mischaracterized and marginalized it, w/out having any specific knowledge of what was actually in it.
The scary thing is the mind games that I'm becoming aware of, that were played and held me firmly for many years after leaving.
I hear you on this. Just two days ago I made a comment to my boss about the flag salute and worrying about being seen and she said "I don't know if you have really mentally left the JWs like you think you have". That gave me pause and is something I really need to look at. There are lingering thoughts and emotions that come up now and then.
I am glad you found this site.

i invited him to come inside the coffee shop where i am working (on a book about jws) and he came in saying he had to make it back to the convention center for his assembly, but he was very leary.
he came in and i invited him to sit down but he woudn't.
he said he couldn't answer any questions because he was disfellowshipped.

This sounds like he is still very much under their control. If you really think about it, when you are DF'd, you are all alone. The WTS still controls you by not allowing you to make friends with worldly people - it would hinder you getting reinstated. In a lot of cases you lose your family and all of your JW friends. They want you to feel totally isolated in the hopes that you will come back. And a lot of DF'd people buy into that -- I know I did (what a loser I was).

here is part of my story until i have more time.
i am know 30 years old, i have been married for almost 9 years to someone who has no relgous ties at all.
i was baptized when i was 19 due to pressure from my family, they wanted me to to get baptized when i was 16. i think i may hold the record for most comitee meetings probably about 20, i was publilcly reproved and disassociated.
Welcome!

are there any very active apostates in your area?.
i'm talking about the snarling, fire-breathing, district convention picketing, apostates that are an absolute nuisance to local congregations, and are very irritating thorns in the side of the watchtower society.. i don't know of any in my area but i've heard rumors of one group in particular that is well known and very active.
if it's true i'd like to find out who they are.
Not that I know of. A few years back I saw a woman wearing a sandwich board bashing JWs. I was still kind attending meetings at that time and I was afraid to approach her, but my boyfriend did. Apparently she lost her entire family to the dubs and was very bitter. So she went around the western states wearing the sandwich board whenever she could. She appeared very dedicated. Maybe I will see her again one day.
