Tashawaa,
I am so sorry for your loss. I too once had I cat I loved -- she has been gone 12 years now. I still think of her fondly.
And RR -- how could you be so insensitive!!!!

for many new witnesses, there was a certain pride associated with being "a jehovah's witness".
they loved telling people they couldn't salute the flag, vote, take blood, have a hangover, have oral sex....you get the idea.
once it dawns on jws how dumb and ridicouolus they sound, it's the beginning of the end.
When I was in 8th grade we were going door to door after the DC one evening (remember those service days after the convention?) and we came across this guy that I was "in love with" from school and I was MORTIFIED that 1) he saw me in a dress and 2) going door to door. I never spoke a word to him (I was pretty shy), but I will never forget that sick feeling in my stomach when he opened the door. Funny thing is -- I ran away and left my friend to deal with it. (Hey I was 13 y/o).
I never had pride that I was a JW -- I never wore my badge after the conventions, etc.
Now I tell people that I am slowly overcoming being raised in a cult-like religious environment.

we got home from vacation today about noon and i am pooped.
we caught the early ferry off of orcas island, and vacation is over.
now i am doing laundry and tomorrow have to clean the rv.. it was so much fun.
Welcome back Mulan! I am happy to hear you had a great vacation with your family.
I visited Orcas island briefly last year in the winter (on the way to Friday Harbor). It is a beautiful island and I wished I could have spent more time there.

i just got word that protesters have been allowed on the "cow palace" convention center property (near san francisco) with a valid permit.
see the link below for a the happy jw news release on this convention.

I have attended many DCs at the Cow Palace. (More than I care to remember). The place is kinda dumpy, but apparently the dubs get a grrrrrrreat deal on the place. So much so that we are made to show our appreciation (via clapping) for the management during the last talk of the day on Sunday.
And it is like cattle call in the morning when the open the doors -- everyone getting into position for the best seats. . . just like a herd of cows.

i have completely moved away from the wt teachings,i know they are wrong and i will live to old age (hopefully!
)and then die of old age...but every now and again ,i feel a terrifying sense of dread (truly terrifying ),that armageddon may just happen ,complete with strange planetary phenomena etc....oh well i guess thats the 30 years of constant, never ending doom and gloom, death and destruction starting from age 3.!..being an english chap,i tend to dismiss therapy etc,but im having second thoughts..... im probably not alone feeling like this?.
ps apologies if this thread has been covered before..
Hey fleaman -- up until I read the book Crisis of Conscience (which I am almost finished with) I used to get anxiety attacks that I wouldn't survive Armageddon. I haven't had an attack in awhile and I think it is because I see the "Society" as being a human organization instead of a divine all knowing organization.
That book really helped open my eyes to see that what they teach is not necessarily from the bible. Andr me, that puts everything they teach in doubt.
I recommend reading the book and seeing a counselor -- that could be helpful for you.

technically they are not my in-laws yet.
but my (live in) boyfriend's parents, sister, niece & nephew are here for a visit.
it is like the country mice that meet the city mice.
Trying to cope. . . . like me.

Well. . . technically they are not my in-laws yet. . . but my (live in) boyfriend's parents, sister, niece & nephew are here for a visit. It is like the country mice that meet the city mice. They are driving me insane and have only been here for 4 days. I have made dinner the past three nights and breakfast on the weekend. They do not lift a hand to help. I enjoy cooking, but I put my foot down tonight and b-friend is making dinner -- I can hear them all downstairs eating that dinner.
Yesterday I took the mother and the sister to the mall. After about an hour and half we met back up. I said "do you want to go anywhere else?" and they said "well. . . we were wondering if we could take you back home so that we can use your car to drive to a town that is an hour away to buy a HAND TOWEL". I couldn't believe it.
We don't allow shoes in the house so they wear "house shoes". I guess the front sidewalk and the garage are part of the house because they walk all over the place in their "house shoes". It is maddening. Fortunately they will be leaving on Friday (after a one week stay) -- (last year it was two full weeks).
Those are just two small examples -- but please keep in mind I am a type A personality -- I like my routine and it has been shot to hell.
Thanks for letting me vent.

i've been a bit lax in posting, life got really busy over the last while.
i've had my own business that's been gaining contracts, but not quickly enough for mortgage payments and cat food.
hehe so i took a 5 month temp job to supplement.
Cerise Rose,
Congratulations to you!!!!! I just got engaged this past weekend too. I wish you all the happiness in the world.

most of the witnesses that marry are in their early 20's that i know of.
they have zippo experience in anything except how to hide pimples.
from what you have seen, are most witnesses encouraged to get married---just so that they don't sin?
Yup -- I think so. It would be interesting to see the divorce statistics for young JW couples.
Purza
anybody who reads this post please respond.
have you been divorced?
and if so, was it after being an active publisher?
Yes. My ex was not a JW and I did not get a "scriptual" divorce. I got a divorce on the grounds of willful non-support (JW terms) The scriptual grounds came later. I was an active publisher before and after the divorce.
