I realize that as a child you had no choice, I mean now. Let's say you weren't brought up in the religion. Let's say they came to your door in the afternoon on Sunday, rather than Saturday morning...early....after you'd been waking up early all week for work...lol....Would you have listened to them and if you did would you be intrigued enough to learn more? That's what I'm asking.

First question: Why are JW's ridiculed so much?
by 2good2bad indo you ever wonder why jw's are the most ridiculed?
they are made fun of more than any other religion.
it makes me think about jesus and how he was persecuted and ridiculed for being righteous.

Careful. These are objective questions. I'm merely asking to get opinions. It's not about what I think...BUUUUUUUUUUUT ...since you asked. Not fornicating, commiting adultery, defouling the human body, disassociating yourself from Pagan holidays (Pagans were gods = idolatry (wrong in the bible as well) and all of it's practices, in my opinion, is not "making up" rules.

So you admit to being a brainwashed [deleted] So now that you're "free" so to speak, is your brain no longer "washed"? Are you doing your own thinking now? Are you NOT influenced by anything or anyone other than your own guidance? Think carefully before answering that.

Would you have chosen this faith on your own? Why not? Is it too hard to live righteously? Do you really bel i eve it's a cult? If the bible says do not fornicate, commit adultery, defoul the human body (your temple) , ect...and this religion just happened to TRY and abide by all these rules, does that make them a cult or genuinely God fearing people?

Do you ever wonder why JW's are the most ridiculed? They are made fun of more than any other religion. It makes me think about Jesus and how he was persecuted and ridiculed for being righteous. If we are living in a kingdom ruled by evil, (Satan) which judging by the events that occur in our lifetime, wouldn't it make sense that anyone who tries to do right would suffer? And those that "go with the flow" so to speak would APPEAR to be in a better position and enjoying the "fruits" of this world?
It's so much easier to accept the world and not go against society, don't you agree? Remember how hard it was not to sing The Pledge of Allegiance, make a Valentine's Card in class, eat Christmas cookies, smoke, drink, curse, and have great sex, like the rest of your "outgoing" friends were doing growing up? For those that managed to stay within the guidelines and teachings of JW's for so long, it took guts to be different. Yet, when the opportunity to become "free" was given we took it so as to escape the ridicule and the stiffling drawbacks of being a "righteous God-fearing" Christian. But you know what I think about? We complained about being left out, or feeling isolated because we abided by our parents and remained true to our FAITH. WHOOPTIE DOO! How many of us would have the guts and the FAITH to withstand a crucifixion such as Jesus did? I know I would've been just as much of a coward as Peter was because my faith isn't that strong.
But back to my original point (lol) There has to be something to reason that JW's are ridiculed so much. There also has to be a reason why people who are exposed to the religion are so affected by it that they need outlets to discuss it (like on message boards and there' s a constant debate over what is right, real, wrong, and fictitious.
Thoughts?

Hello fellow ex-JW's
by 2good2bad ini'm new (duh) to this message board.
i usually frequent message boards of a more sinful type...lol...but i have been on a search for quite sometime to talk with people who understand where i'm coming from when i talk about the religion i grew up in.
i get tired of getting that deer in the headlight look or the infamous "for real you sold bibles door to door and woke people up in the morning?

Oh I'm DEFINITELY sarcastic. But I was being facetious for the reason you think. I don't care what urks me about this religion I still believe that there are a lot of truth to it. Later you'll find out why I think so.

I'm new (duh) to this message board. I usually frequent message boards of a more sinful type...lol...but I have been on a search for quite sometime to talk with people who understand where I'm coming from when I talk about the religion I grew up in. I get tired of getting that deer in the headlight look OR the infamous "for real you sold bibles door to door and woke people up in the morning?" look from my "wordly" (ha ha) friends. I have so many questions and so many opinions/comments about my experiences as a JW. Here's a little background on me: I come from a loooooooong line of them. The one I remember most is my grandmother. Of her 8 children, 3 of them (the three women - coincidence -- I think not) became JW's. Two married none JW's, and one did not. The one that married a Brother, had 12 children, who ALL became Witnesses. It's not like they had a choice...my uncle ruled with an iron fist and it knocked them all to the Hall ERRRYDAY there was service... I'm not saying he was abusive (NO) I'm saying he was strict and if you lived in his house you were to live as a JW no question. I'm one of 3, and my older brother and sister became one. Now, ask me how many of us are still attending meetings and pioneering and so on and so forth? HA!!! Not the 20 something people I just rattled off I tell you that! Me, I attended meetings regularly, I went out in the service, I did talks and absolutely looooooved it! I was NEVER shy and one of my favorite elders in the congregation loved to put me on stage because I was sure to get a laugh or a gasp out of the audience because of my precocious nature. From the time I was about 3 years old I was very ACTIVE in the congregation. Until one Sunday morning my mother gave me a choice of sleeping in late, or getting up going to Hall and risk getting pinched to death for falling asleep so much during the boring talks...I chose option A. Don't get me wrong I eventually would go. Why? Because I was always up for attention and a nerd anyway, so the thought of grabbing a microphone and shouting out answers outlined in the Watchtower and hearing everyone OOO and Aaah because I got the answer right intrigued me enough to continue to go.
So how did I get here? Bad association spoiled ALL my useful habits....lol!! I broke free from embarrasment of not celebrating holidays, being able to get my ears pierced, and dammit if I wanted to kiss a boy....PUCKER UP BABY!! I was so incredibly stiffled that breaking free was so liberating for me! I could write for days but I really must get back to work. Now that I've found this site I will be back online tonight at home. I have so much more to say, but marinate on this if you must. HOLLA!

Memorial Experience
by CaptainSchmideo inat my congregation's memorial, i saw two things i have never seen before.. 1. since jesus said a prayer "over the bread and wine", the elders who gave the prayers just before passing the utensils took the microphone out of the podium, walked over to the table, and said the prayer "over the bread and wine.
" never saw this before in over 30 years of attendance.. .
2. one elder, probably the most knowledgable, been a witness since he was a kid in the fifties, was wearing a lapel pin on his jacket, very small, looked like a black button.

Wow! Wonder what life would be like if Jesus had enjoyed a day on the beach instead of dying for us all?
