Hi Ash, I am sorry for what the Society has done to your wife. I can relate to this one many levels. As for spin. I think the Abuse issue with Dateline and media coverage so hot ont thier heels, the Society will try to change some of their policies befor the show airs to make it look like they are not as bad as the media portrays them to be. I don't think it will do them any good however because unlike the rank and file, the public will see right through it and see the Watchtower for what it really is. The public are not blinded by Watchtower rhetoric and thought contol, games and coverups, and false promises. As for the shunning issue, I don't think that is going to change overnight because this is the Society's way of keeping the R&F under control, and those who leave from influenceing them. A sort of keeping the lid on thier pot of simmering lies and coverups.

What're the new spins going to be?
by ashitaka ini was talking with my wife and surmised that in ten years, there would be 'revision' in thought about blood, and that they would allow transfusions, (a conscience matter), but still forbid the eating of blood.. as to disfellowshipping, when it all hits the fan in the media, there may be a change, some time in the future regarding it.
perhaps they will say to only 'spiritually' disfellowship the person, but not encourage the total shunning of them.. do those two hold any merit?
what other things may change at the wtbts?

SF, Last summer I cut these pictures out of my old liturature and shared them with my family who also has decided to disconnect from WT, and the pictures cut out and separated from the books and brochures give a powerful impression on the reality of the Watchtowers message of hate and creed intolerance. These pictures need to be directed to local newspapers so that neighborhoods know what the message is behind the messengers coming to the door.

Let's meditate on these scriptures
by YoYoMama in2 peter 2:1-22.
2 however, there also came to be false prophets among the people, as there will also be false teachers among you.
these very ones will quietly bring in destructive sects and will disown even the owner that bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves.

Daring and self willed they speak abusively of he glorious ones..,
By falsely identifying the elders as the "glorious ones" who the Bible refers to as the angels, the WTS has truly elevated the elders to that position and in so doing they have certainly spoken abusively. -

Hi Ash, We saw the movie and it was awsome in different ways. First it was a visual smorgasborg. And everything visually depicted everything fun in my memory. You could see aspects of childhood memories of cartoon characters, and toys, visits to Disney, the Wizard of Oz, Barbie Doll etc. It first was very loud and slow moving but as the story line continued we were able to empathize with the characters. Nicole Kiddman was fabulous and suprisingly a wonderful singer. It is a movie I am told that you either love or hate. I loved it for many reasons and especially I like Nicole. The colors and visual props were delightful.By the way, Merry Christmas!

We Set Up The Tree
by LB inalthough we've been inactive for a couple of years now this is the first christmas we've celebrated.
while we know we may get dfed for putting one up we really don't care.. today while decorating the tree my wife is the happiest i've seen her in years.
she's singing downstairs and you just can't wipe that grin off her face.

Merry Christmas everyone, and LB, like you and your wife, we also have been inactive for several years, but already have been shunned as if df'd. This weekend we set up our first tree. Everything you describe is the same here. It is wonderful and I love looking at all the lights. I can imagine what the Witnesses are saying. I am sure they all know. We have lit up the outside of our house and my husband who never celebrated Christmas has been having such a good time and smiling all the time. We got an 8 foot tree and are still adding decorations to it. It brings back so many good feelings that the holdays meant to me before becoming a JW. I missed it terribly and the years in the Org. I would compensate in many ways for the loss of it. Many "gatherings" and "special days" with presents etc. But they never really were able to give the feelings that the real holidays do now. I love them and am free from guilt from the research I have done. Again, Happy Holidays everone. And Ranchette if you are out there thank you for the card you sent.

Hi Bill, thank you for the post. When I read it all I could think about was how anyone who stands up to the "HYPOCRATES" are attacked vehemently the way you have been. It's not easy to be like Jeremiah. Thankyou for taking on the task. Your hard work has made a differenc to many many who have been under the heels of the Watchtower.

DATELINE TONITE Children whipped in church

Trot, I did not have a chance to see DATELINE but apparantly the story that they did on this behavior in the church against the poor children by the parents and church leaders is something that is common in all abusive cults. Hurting the children. Disgusting. And to do it in the name of a god with the approval of the parents. I guess when you get right down to it they are all the same as the ancient Israelites sacrificing their kids to Marduc. They in this case are Baptists and Jehovah's Witnesses do it for Jehovah. Thanks Trot for the post.

Dysfunctional Families - Running Away From Home
by Celtic inhow many of you can distinctly remember back to your teenage years?
did you ever get the feeling when you were younger that your family was dysfunctional despite the 'kingdom smiliness' show?.
did you ever try to run away from home?
-

I can't help to think that all JW families are dysfunctional. The belief system itself is based on an authoritarian "parent fingure". The religous community is the "family" that is at the mercy of the authoritarian spiritually abusive WT parent. The elders also carry out this "family" agenda designated by the dysfunctional "parent". It is based on burdonsome, unreasonable expectations, and failure brings on blame, shame, guilt, punishment, and abandonment. It is also a parent that wants secrecy and loyalty from the family members when cruelty and abuses take place, and if the one being spiritually abused, or for that matter, any other type of abuse, the rest of the "family" must not talk about it, so the WT parent can continue the dysfunctional "parenting". I think also since congregations are run by families, and the elders bring this dysfunctional way of thinking home and mimic the WT way of being an authoritarian parent wanting "perfection" and "obedience" and "loyalty" that goes far beyond what is normal. Families from the world who are converted are usually vulnerable due to some kind of lacking in their life, turn to this parent organization for "parent guidance" and then bring thier own dysfunction in generationally. By the time these dysfunctional families raise their families to adulthood many become the new generation of families taking over leadership in the congregations with thier own issues. The ones who have the courage to see it and leave are taking the first steps to breaking the cycle of abuse. Just my opinion. In any event I am glad my family has now chose to "run away" from the WT and distance ourselves from it, the way one would want to distance themselves from an abusive situation. Spiritual abuse is also emotional abuse and can be very damaging. It takes away the hopes and dreams of young people, and keeps them from being allowed to make mistakes that they inevitably will. Any religious community that abandons a young person for not conforming to the theology is a spiritual community that is dysfunctional. Our young people are our resources, and blessings, even when they make mistakes. Every other religious community that is nurturing and normal provides forgiveness and nurturing for the youth when they are at their most vulnerable age and most likely to rebel. I think it is so important to be their for our children as they stumble into adulthood even during the normal mistakes that are common for them.
