Did you know of any JW's brothers that were "wife beaters"? Were they DF'd?
by booker-t inyears ago when i was attending my old kh there was an elder that was very stern.
bro glen(not his real name) used to be very firm in telling students about their talks not being good, or where they needed to improve.
i know i was "terrified" of bro glen.

Joe Grundy thank you so much for making this statement and for your post! Welcome to the Board
Can I just say this, PLEASE. In the UK, and, I'm fairly sure in the US and other countries too, there are dedicated family protection departments who can and will take positive action to stop this. All it needs is for someone to pick up the phone. Don't walk on by, please.
Yes the US has the problem also people must notify authorities, I worked with children for years and at a shelter for domestic violence help is there for women and their children who need help, for men also it's just in my case I have only seen women, and this applies to all persons we advocated for women in lesbian relationships as well, so if you need help seek it out.

Are you a drama queen / king?
by G Money inwould you admit to being a drama queen or king??
do you love to tell the world about problems in your life, about the dark cloud following you or how you are singled out???
are there easy solutions to your problems that you ignore as quick resolutions aren't your thing??

My Mom was/is such a drama queen she totally broke me from ever wanting to be one. Her's is the kind where she has to be the center of attention, I could be lying in a bed near death and she would "pass-out" for attention yes she's done it before.LOL

Where I was raised we called them devils claws & I'm so late I don't even get an honorable mention,
One of my Aunts used to put two of them together and dress them so they looked like critters put wiggly eyes one them etc. she had friends over one night and put them in the guest bed room where she had these sitting on a shelf over the bed room window, she had it so the single part looked like a nose, the man thought it was the biggest Mosquito he had ever seen, his wife said he had to get up turn the light on and inspect it. just a funny story seeing the pics reminded me of.

One I know of really well and personally the lady had been a jw all her life married a nonbeliver divorced eventually married a man with children na dshe had children then they had a couple of there own, first I heard of it one of her teen-age daughters left home really early and talk was she was pregnant ,a rumor started I think to cover up him abusing the kids, since the girl was not pregnant she and my daughter were friends. Eventually the woman told about the abuse in the house, He was an elder and when she had enough and went to the bro's for help they 'talked' to the husband, she told me her 'worldly' husband was kinder than hubby elder was. She said he stepped down as elder when they started building a home, but was not asked/told to.

If you like The J.R.R.Tolkein ring books you should really read Elizabeth Haydons books Rhapsody, Prophecy, and Destiny, I have been telling a friend how great they are and started sending the set to him now his boys are reading them and he loves them, they are really good fantasy novels, great friendships and a bond of affectione between the three main characters, Rhapsody a female elf like lady tough as nails though, Grunthor a sgt. of an unusual type with hide and tusks and claws but has a wonderful personality, and the other character is Achmed. Then the adventure continues with Requim for the sun and Elegy for a lost star editted to add: I am reading this book series again.

Why can we LOSE our Religion, but not LOSE it's effects on us?
by gumby inanother thread inspired by me chatting with our sweet little mary.... we who have exited the jehovahs witnesses religion, are now convinced we made the right move.
most of us have no doubt this religion is a destructive, cultlike religion that we wouldn't wish on anybody....and yet,.
....we still suffer the effects it had on us.

(((((Undecided))))) I feel for you I did not spend as much of my life in the wts as others here have but I understand how confusing and depressing it is to get the old junk out of our systems and get on with life without letting the bitterness eat us up. You have relatives out also right? Take care of you.

Book Study Parties...New Trend ???
by Poztate in.
truthseeker just posted about the wt congregations discouraging large social gathering or parties.. in the last little while my wife has gone to a few "book study parties" and has commented that other book studies were doing the same.. it seemed a little strange to me that this was happening as most of her congregation seems cold and distant at the best of times.. i wonder if it is a new "program" started by the wt to hype up the old "brotherly love" thing.has anybody heard or seen this to be happening lately if you are still close enough to know?

We used to have small book study get togethers, but I only remember one congregation size picnic and it was because the CO was leaving the district. we went to a park and not much fun was had .but the smaller gatherings were better for the kids and they enjoyed them. All of us in the bookstudy had children and we had the fun days for them. Usually Saturdays after service (ggggggrrrrrrrrrr I am so glad my kids are out with me and still love me) but the outtings were really stressful for me.
