Once I heard an annointed member pray in a house before a meal and he said "Jehovah help us to carefully examine what was placed on our plate before we eat it" the host could have misunderstod that but she laughed as did most others present.
He was making in fact a reference to the GB as the FDS, with whom he was at loggerheads at the time.

Sympahty for Circuit and District Overeer's Poor Wives

i would like this thread to express sympathy for these poor women, that because of being duped by a typical "end of the world cult", have given up a stable enviroment, suffer god know what as they endure listening to the same booring talk for 6 months, away from friends and family, no home to decorate, under constant scrutiny from the other sisters, etc.... i wouldn't like this thread to degenerate into what bad things these poor victims of an "end of the world cult" have done, but more toward sympathy, to help especially the younger ones who may be reading jwd, and need the courage to do something to get out of this predicament, before they waste thier whole life away slaving for the ungratefull wt organization.. they could use some help here and understanding as well.

I personally don't have much sympathy for them because their husbands play a vital role in promoting the lies and oppressiveness of the WTS at a level higher than that of the elders.

Gadget that's a good point but the GB are so conceited they have an explanation for the braindead JWs: they may have said something correct but they ran ahead of the FDS and that to them is the serious crime rather than what they actually said.
So they don't get reinstated even after the org aligns itself with the idea(s) that got them d/fed. That absurd and arbitrary (fascist) mentality is the hallmark of a cult. -

The facts on crucifixion, stauros, and the "torture stake"
by Leolaia infinally, i will look at biblical and patristic evidence bearing on the crucifixion of jesus in particular.
we need to examine the earliest known descriptions of the kind of crucifixion adopted by the romans and the specific terms they used to refer to it.
apparently the society believes that crux still meant "stake" in the second century a.d., when tacitus composed his annals.

I think this was a cult from the start with Russell but Rutherford made it much much worse.
Russell was arrogant enough to believe that of all people on earth past and present he was the FDS of the gospel parable, and wanted his followers to study the bible through his writings rather than directly. -

That's thanks to the internet, when I left in the 80's I had many questions I could have easily answered by visiting some websites, or a forum, where you can also find good support from people who lived through similar experiences.

After the change in the 1914 generation dogma I think a lot of dubs realised that they had been manipulated into harming their educational and financial prosects and lost interest in preaching, others lost the sense of urgency the WTS so carefully cultivated in them.
