Apparently the JWs have nothing to do with chiliasts since they believe that the Christ will carry out a the final judgement against most of mankind at armageddon and not after the 1000 years are finished. As I understand it chiliasts believe that the kingdom will come and rule the world rather peacefully for 1 000 years which means no armageddon before or during those 1000 years.

Are JW's former Chiliasts?
by NYCkid inhey, i was reading karl marx today for one of my college classes and he mentions briefly the chiliasts and i quote, "in their minds [french revolutionists] may 2, 1852, had become a fixed idea, a dogma, like the day on which christ should reappear and the millennium begin, in the minds of the chiliasts.
" the footnote goes on to say about the chiliasts, "the adherents of an ancient christian sect, who believed in the second coming of christ and in the establishment of the millennium, a thousand years of pardise on earth.
obviously this mention of the millennium believing chiliasts struck my curiosity since that is exactly what jws believe especially when chiliasts believed that satan would be let loose at the end of the 1000 years for one final battle.

A good reply to the "pioneer or you're nothing" crowd.
by B_Deserter inwhenever i used to get hassled for not pioneering, i love passing along this little nugget of wisdom: "can you imagine what it would be like if everyone in the congregation pioneered?
no one would make any money to put in the contribution box, donate for gas, or buy groceries for the pioneers!
everyone would starve!".

True, though the jw gospel that is preached by the pioneers is useless or rather damaging there wouldn't be any families and new children born if everyone was a pioneer. The JWs would live in an unnatural world. That's what Rutherford wanted and left many dub couples childless as they ended up being used by the WTS to further its interests.

144,000 resurrected BEFORE Jesus rose?
by tula inaccording to matthew 27:52-53.
(this occurred during the time when jesus was being crucified).
"and the memorial tombs were opened and many bodies of the holy ones that had fallen asleep were raised up, (and persons coming out from among the memorial tombs after his being raised up, entered into the holy city,) and they became visible to many people.".

I believe Revelation is about the Christian church and not the pre christian faithful. So the 144 000 have to somehow relate to the saints of the church. Revelation describes their war against the powers of satan and their final triumph over those forces.
The resurrection in the gospel of Matthew sounds spurious to me, more like a myth that was added later on and was not in the original. Narkissos should be aware of such issues. -

The Elders came by yesterday.
by Save My Soul inthe loving elders came by and asked me to come back to the hall with my family.
they sincerely believe that the end is near.
these changes are evidence of it.

They have been saying that for over a century now, they cried out wolf falsely too many times by now for anyone to take them seriously. But they are still using the end of times discredited argument to promote their interests.

Can't have it both ways
by loosie ini just thought about something today.
the jw's logic or lack there of.. when you are in the "truth" and bad things happen.. satan is persucuting you.
and when good thing happen to you it's jah's blessing.. when you are out of the "truth" or free as i like to call it.

It is smart as much as it is absurd whatever happens the JWs win out because they can have things both ways, they can have their pie and eat. I would say when the ex dubs do well it's because they are out of the cult and when they do badly it's because they are being persecuted by it.

Welcome summer, we look forward to hearing more about your experiences with the JWs.
Winter was just the latest troll that came to this forum, they quickly get thrown out. Trolls are posters that intentionally seek to create anguish or discomfort to others. -

I like best green tea with jasmine or green tea with bergamot, not with the artificial flavouring but rather the real jasmine and bergamot. I drink it with some honey.

What is the key that unlocks the mental grip of the WT?
by LennyinBluemont inive wondered this from time to time, especially in trying to figure out how i finally broke free and in looking at the stories of others.
if you asked me a few years ago, i probably would have said either seeing too much hypocrisy or suffering the last straw of spiritual and/or emotional abuse.
but i know in my case and others, even that wasnt enough to break the mental shackles.

Stopping attending meetings is a positive development but the best way in my view is to extensively study the JW history and doctrine and thoroughly comprehend their real cultic nature and objectives. Nowadays with the internet and scores or rather hundreds of sites exposing the JWs that can be easily done.
Then meeting people that attend non cultic Christian religions helps a lot in the case of those that wish to continue to believe in God. -

A coup against the Watchtower?
by Dead Man Joaquin ini believe that if enough "anointed" get fed up with the hypocrisy of the leadership, a coup may be likely if not inevitable.. .
what i've been wondering is: how would such a scenario play out in real life?
i'm sure we can agree that all the organizational power ultimately rests in the hands of the eleven little men in brooklyn known collectively as the governing body.

They haven't got a chance since they are relatively few and thoroughly dispersed around the world. True some of them are fruitcakes but many are in a better spiritual shape than the GB members who are in fact just a bunch of power lusting wolves that want to lord it over everyone else and are of a very low and dubious spiritual quality.
In reality there are no two classes in the Christian church just one and that is the anointed class. Everyone must be part of the new covenant and anointed or else one is nothing.
