Ozzie,
I Agree .
A typical JW would say that Jesus - a perfect man - chose Judas; also they would say that this is a proof that we have free will and that God does not control our destiny...

granted, there are some "young" anointed, who are supposedly replacing older anointed who "have fallen out of the truth".. but very soon, this "switch game" won't be working anymore... the number will keep decreasing and the amount of "replacements" will diminish as well, until there are none left.. i am sure that others have made similar remarks, but if we say that a 10 years old was anointed in 1935 (deadline for being anointed), that would mean that this person is now 79 years old today.
let's do some maths and be conservative: let's say 80% (6852 anointed) are the original ones (anointed on 1935 or before) and that they were all anointed on 1935 at 10 years old.. now the other 20% (1713) are "replacements" anointed (took the place of an original because he/she has fallen).
those persons must have some kind of spiritual maturity, so let's assume this group has an average of 30 years old.. combined average age = 69 years old.

Ozzie,
Then we see that 20% were "unfaithful", right?? That sure looks like a high failure rate to me.
I don't know if 20% is accurate, but I thought it would be a "safe" percentage... maybe the percentage is less; in this case, the age average would even be greater!

So what will happen then? Will we have a "New Light" from the last anointed GB member, which will mention that from now on non-anointed can govern as well??
Or is there already a "New Light" that I have missed?
What do you think?

as we all know, 1914 has been a pivotal date for the jw (although its meaning has changed with the time).. the oldest "calculation" to get to 1914 that i could find comes from thy kingdom come (copyright 1891) (1910 edition -- studies in the scriptures, vol.
3) p.342 (thanks to quotes.watchtower.ca):so, then, if we measure backward down the "first ascending passage" to its junction with the "entrance passage," we shall have a fixed date to mark upon the downward passage.
this measure is 1542 inches, and indicates the year b.c.
Thanks blondie! This is exactly what I was looking for.

Hello all,
As we all know, 1914 has been a pivotal date for the JW (although its meaning has changed with the time).
The oldest "calculation" to get to 1914 that I could find comes from Thy Kingdom Come (copyright 1891) (1910 edition -- Studies In The Scriptures, vol. 3) p.342 (thanks to quotes.watchtower.ca):
So, then, if we measure backward down the "First Ascending Passage" to its junction with the "Entrance Passage," we shall have a fixed date to mark upon the downward passage. This measure is 1542 inches, and indicates the year B.C. 1542, as the date at that point. Then measuring down the "Entrance Passage" from that point, to find the distance to the entrance of the "Pit," representing the great trouble and destruction with which this age is to close, when evil will be overthrown from power, we find it to be 3457 inches, symbolizing 3457 years from the above date, B.C. 1542. This calculation shows AD. 1915 as marking the beginning of the period of trouble; for 1542 years B.C. plus 1915 years AD. equals 3457 years. Thus the Pyramid witnesses that the close of 1914 will be the beginning of the time of trouble such as was not since there was a nation -- no, nor ever shall be afterward. And thus it will be noted that this "Witness" fully corroborates the' Bible testimony on this subject...
What I am wondering is: when did they start interpreting 1914 using 606/607 and the 2520 years?
Thanks!

ok, who remembers all those long prayers?
especially at the district conventions!.
we had our convetions at a small hockey arena and the stairs were really steep.
I always found the long prayers inconsiderate, especially for parents with young kids.
Even at a young age my kids knew that the prayer at the end of a day was the last "step" before the convention was over.
After 3-4 long and grueling days of sitting in a over-heated arena, you can imagine that an 8 minutes prayer was way too much for them, and for us!! They would usually start crying at the 3rd or 4th minute. At that point, I was letting them cry as much as they wanted, even hoping they started crying louder...

i am new to this discussion forum and i wanted to introduce myself.
my story is rather ordinary when compared to other members of this board.. first of, i am still a baptized (irregular) jw.
as many jws, i started having doubts when viewing the dateline show regarding child molestation withing the jws.
cyber-sista:
Thanks for your advice! To be quite honest, I do not feel stressed about the elders meeting. On the other hand, my wife is very stressed: she can hardly sleep at night. Considering that she approached the elders over 2 weeks ago, and that they told her they would visit us within a few days, it makes me angry that they still did not contact us at all...
As you mentioned, I believed they will try to dig as deep as they can and they will want to know every details (what we did, frequency, etc). If they start asking me for details, I will simply ask them if knowing what we did would influence at all what they would decide in the end. After all, whatever we did was pornea... whether it is touching breast or genitilia, etc...
Either way, my wife and I have agreed that they will not know the details.

does anyone know what jesus age was when he got baptized by john the baptizer?.
i was baptized at 12 years old and now feel that i wasn't old enough to truly understand what i was doing.
(i had several friends being baptized and wanted to be baptized at the same time).
desib77: I too was baptized at the age of 12, and for the same the same reason than you: my friends (and my sister who was 10) were getting baptized.
I fully agree: 12 is way too young to commit to something as serious as this. I would even say that 18-19 years old is also too soon for some people, as they are still unsure about many things in life...

shotgun:Does your wife know how you feel?
How does she feel, not the same it seems if she is still putting so much faith in the Organization that she wants forgiveness from that Org for past conduct which they condemn
My wife has a good idea on how I feel about the org (I have been irregular for almost a year now). She does not know all the details yet; I am trying to go slowly, as I do not want to drop a bomb on her... this would be too hard for her.
She is still very much active and has full faith in the org. As many of us on this board, she was raised as a jw and learned from a young age not to discuss or question the org's decisions and directives.

Hello All!
I am new to this discussion forum and I wanted to introduce myself. My story is rather ordinary when compared to other members of this board.
First of, I am still a baptized (irregular) jw. As many jws, I started having doubts when viewing the Dateline show regarding child molestation withing the jws. Having two young kids, this is a subject that particularly touches me. After doing more research, and after finding more hidden secrets on the WTS, I slowly stopped going to meetings and in door to door...
But let's back up a little...
I was practically raised as a jw (I was 4 years old when my parents got baptized). I was baptized at 12 years old (which is IMO way too young for such a big commitment).
When I was about 9, my dad was appointed as an elder. At this time, there were only 2 elders in our congregation (including my dad), which kept him extremely busy. Because of this situation, he was rarely there for his own family. This, in turn, created a lot of tension within our familiy... Finally, when I was 14, my mother - who was already emotionally fragile - had to be hospitalized for a severe depression. A year later, my sister (who was only 13) had to be hospitalized for depression as well.
A couple of years after, things slowly got better: my sister got married, my dad did not have as much responsibilities in the cong, my mom was finally given the correct medication (she was later diagnosed as bi-polar), and I moved out and started a life of my own.
I got married at 22 with a beautiful sister, who I still love and cherish today. While we were engaged, we spent a lot of time alone. We never had complete relations before marriage, but we went a little too far on certain occasions. This being said, we did not mention any of this to the elders and we got married.
2 weeks ago, my wife was preparing her wt and started crying. I asked her why: the article she was studying was talking about our situation ("unpure" acts before marriage) and was urging the couples that were in this situation to confess to the elders. She was torn: on one side, she knew that I had no remorse regarding what we did, but on the other side, she felt guilty to hide such a thing from the elders. I suggested that we speak to the elders if this would make her feel better. She decided to talk to the PO right after the Sunday meeting. He told her that he and another elder would contact us within a few days and set a date to come and visit us to talk further about the situation.
We are still waiting for the elders to contact us on the matter.
Here's my dilemma: a judicial committee will most likely occur. As I mentionned, I do not regret what happened between my wife and I before we got married. If I do not "fake" it, this means that I will most likely be df. My wife is still very much active, and I know that it would hurt her to see me df: no more friends/family coming at our house, the "shame" of having a df husband, etc. The last things I want to do is to hurt her.
Do any of you have suggestions/opinions on this matter?
Anyways, I hope nobody fell asleep reading my story .
Looking forward to exchange conversations with all of you!
