A Religion in a Packet

i guess when your religion is really a book selling/publishing empire then acts of worship are somewhat lacking.

what i mean from that is, having experienced many different church services, i now remember jw services to be lacking in worship, ceremony, praise and joy.

a meeting at the kingdom hall in comparison to other churches is like comparing fine home cooking to packet meals.. jw services are based on a packet formula.

For a time I attempted to learn Spanish in order to "serve where the need is greater." Ironically one of the few things that I understood best during the meetings were the prayers. They were exactly like the one you mention above, except in another language. I wonder if I could learn Chinese that way?

An all out assault against them is exactly what the WTS wants. The idea that they are the center of the universe and that everyone would turn against them has been a principle teaching of the borg for years. If what was being proposed here were to be carried out on any sizable scale it would only give fuel to the WTS position that they are the persecuted faithful and that soon all the world is going to turn against them because they are the only righteous ones on the planet. The "faithful" would only become that much more convinced that the end is near and that God is soon going to destroy all of us dissenters. The WTS is good at taking on the victim's role. I see no reason to add to their own perception that they are the most persecuted group on earth. But that's just my opinion.

word Proskuneo

i was just reading my kingdon interliner and i was wondering why whenever the .

greek word proskuneo was used in relation to jehovah it was translated as worship.

but when used in relation to jesus it is translated as obeisance?

Interesting point to consider. In the old Green Bible the WTS translated that word at Hebrews 1:6 as "worship" not "obeisance." Later they changed it obviously because Jesus being worshipped didn't fit into their theology.

Another Flip-Flop?

i recently bought "the kingdom is at hand" from a used bookstore.

this book was published in 1944 by the society and was one of the first publications of the post-rutherford era (jfr had died in 1942).

i found an explanation of the prophecy of daniel, chapter 2 of which i was totally unaware.

in 1940, former zone servant harvey h. fink wrote that the wts was "set up by presumptous men whose interest in spite of their pretenses to the contray, is primarily selling books for revenue.." and that the wts demanded that books containing outdated doctrine would still "be sold to the people very definitely, because it wanted to get the revenue out of them in spite of the errors it willing admitted they contained.

strong words, indeed.

is the wts so currupt and greedy that they would knowlingly make their membership buy and sell books that contained admitted false prophecies and outdated doctrines?

I can't believe that the book is 678, 324 pages long! At the rate of 100 pages per day, 7 days a week, it would take about 17 years to read it. Did I calculate wrong? I didn't think any book could physically be that big to hold so many pages.- azaria

If you think those numbers don't add up trying figuring out how in the course of 1900 years (from 33 to 1935) only 144,000 Christians were around to be "anointed." That comes out to about 75 Christians per year. One congregation per year? Makes perfect sense. zugz

I remember the second go-round in the Revelation book, and my husband and I did not get new copies. We were the only ones in the study group who noticed the editing jobs that the Society had done in various places, because everyone else had the ones with New Light? in them. - Scully

I remember this as well. It would always be so funny when the reader's copy was different from everyone else's. All these faces of brothers and sisters with this lost "what is he reading" look on their faces. Oh, the memories!

Danish accuser admits it was all just lies!

the danish newspaper which has told so many stories about youths being molested in denmark by jws recently, today brings the story that the woman who came forth with the most sensational ones of these stories, how she and others were molested by groups of elders during baptismal preparations etc.

- to the police has admitted it was all nothing but lies.. i just wonder if silentlambs and the danish posters here will be as quick to bring these news and the translation out to the people just as quickly as they did when the original story was given by the newspaper?.

I read your post again, and I just wanted to add that I failed to notice that you said that this was your personal experience. I certainly apologize and in no way mean to belittle your experience. It shows a lot of strength on your part to speak out even if some don't believe you. But like you said, you just continue speaking about what you know is truth.

I sincerely want to believe that there is no way that that can be true. Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt that there are pedaphiles in the borg. I just find it difficult to believe that there is the type of group activity. I mean the depths of deprevity of human beings obviously can be very low. (Burning one's own children in sacrificial fire, for example) But in my innocent little mind I always figured that pedaphiles were persons who kept a secret all to themselves (and their victims, of course) and did not dare share such a perversion with anyone. I mean, how would one pedaphile know that another person was also a pedaphile in order to form any type of group perversion? And then to say it is three or more persons? The larger the group the more fragile the structure. (A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.) So in order for a group of pedaphiles to be working in concert together would mean that all the members of this perverse group would have to be able to keep a secret. I suppose such is possible, but the majority of elders I knew couldn't keep a secret to save their lives. Their wives knew everything or at least 50% of what was going on. So would that mean that the wives of these elders also knew what was going on? It's not that I am trying to be confrontational, it's just I can't fathom the scope of what would have to be being implied. If it is true that the authorities discounted this story then I can certainly understand why they would have.
