Elder told me Voting was a conscience matter

It's just like taking a blood transfusion or joining the military. The WTS is moving away from official action against these things because of legal repercussions. It's just another example of the lawyers at the HQ taking over the decision making process.

The most frustrating, sad thing in the world
by Soledad ini just learned that an ex-cowoker of mine became engaged to her abusive boyfriend.
she is probably one of the brightest, prettiest people i have ever known--but she doesn't believe that because her boyfriend would rather have her believe she is dumb, ugly and nothing at all without him.
i am so sad for this girl.. she was in college last year and he made her give it up.

"I would tell her family. I'd rather sacrifice a friendship than read her obituary. Do whatever it takes..." I would agree with that statement. It sounds like she is definitely co-dependent. That's is difficult because she is drawn to negative situations because she feels the need to "fix" someone else. Of course that never works and it only makes a person like her that much more determined to "fix" the other person. It's a vicious cycle. She can't stop it because she doesn't even realize she's in it. Intervention from others is definitely necessary. She may hate you but she'll be alive to do so. zugz

I agree with the comments of others made here. Part of your shock is the fact that that could have still been you. Knowing that you were once on that train wreck and seeing others still on it is shocking. And knowing that there is nothing you can do to help them is soooo frustrating. I too have seen a therapist lately, and I was informed that per capita more JW's and former JW's seek professional psychological help than any other religious group. We were all too varying degrees psychologically raped by the borg. So give yourself time, eventually you will be able to respond with less shock. Try this next time, the next time she visits tell her that if she can show you one secular reference referring to the destruction of Jerusalem as occuring in 607 BCE instead of 587/86 BCE that you'll go to a meeting with her. That'll keep her searching for a long time.
