The whole issue of "illegal immigration" is ridiculous. We refer to these individuals as "illegal immigrants." Why? Because we, who were here before them, don't want them taking over everything. Kind of like the way the Native Americans didn't want the newcomers taking over everything hundreds of years ago. Did Christopher Columbus and his crew have the "legal" right to come here? Who determines who has the "legal" right to be here? People don't like change, never have, never will. But the notion that the "illegal immigrants" are doing some unheard of thing by entering territory that doesn't "belong" to them, is completely ridiculous. Since the beginning of time people have migrated from one place to another. It happens all the time. It's only because we American's are so arrogant that we think it is such a big deal that these "illegals" dare to defy the almighty U.S.

for at least 87 years the WTS has said that millions now living will never die; that the OS can look forward to being unique among humans, having never died.
Those in my parents generation are seeing contemporaries die, and are wondering if they will personally realize that promise. In the minds of those who made that promise, they have not lied if only one person surivives w/o dying. Where are the millions, only baptized jws. The WTS conditions their statments by saying "as a group" these will survive. No guarantees for individuals. What about those who put off marriage and/or children "for the sake of the good news"?
Blondie
"Therefore we may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old...." (1920, Millions Now Living Will Never Die p. 89-90)
The whole basis of the statement "millions now living will never die" (which the WTS still proudly uses) was based upon the teaching of the WTS that the end was going to occur in 1925. Notice how the writer says "we may confidently expect." Notice a similar statement in the WT January 1, 1997 p. 11: "In the early 1920’s, a featured public talk presented by Jehovah’s Witnesses was entitled 'Millions Now Living Will Never Die.' This may have reflected overoptimism at that time. But today that statement can be made with full confidence."The fact that a woefully false and inaccurate statement was made is glossed over by saying it was merely "overoptimism." In addition, the author makes the same mistake that Rutherford made back in the 1920's. Just as in the early 1920's they were sure they could "confidently expect" something that didn't happen, likewise, in the 1997 article reference is made to having "full confidence." How can I, or anyone else, have "full confidence" in a statement made by an organization that made the same statement 75 years earlier that turned out to be completely wrong? The only thing I am confident about is that I can't trust the Watchtower Society. -

Will we see the GB replace 1914 with a new date in the next 30 years?
by nvrgnbk inray franz mentioned in crisis of conscience that in 1980 schroeder, klein, and suiter proposed changing the start of "this generation" from 1914 to 1957. as the "this generation" doctrine has since mysteriously morphed any date associated with it is moot.
however, as time marches on without the developments anticipated by the gb may they again pick a new year, this time for the invisible enthronement of christ, in an attempt to buy time and regain credibility?
what dates or historical events would be likely choices?

There are a lot of interesting years coming up. September 11, 2008 will make 7 years since the attacks in New York and Washington. For those who believe that event marked the beginning of the 7 year great tribulation that date will be exciting.
The Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012. Sounds like a good date for the end of the world.
As mentioned the year 2014 will mark 100 years of "parosia." The borg will probably try to create some excitement about that year but do so very back channel. Nothing in print, nothing said at the conventions, just a "well I heard brother so and so say that brother so and so said that brother so and so at Bethel said . . ." So many layers of plausible deniability that no one would be able to say anything close to what was being said before 1975. 2014-15 is also significant because that will be 80 years since the sealing of the anointed in 1935. Can anyone say. . .one more try at that 80 year generation thingy?
Then of course there is 2034. Swear to God I suggested this idea many years ago to my now ex wife. Back when I was a faithful jdub. My ex was talking about how close the end was or had to be and I said I wasn't so sure. I remember saying to her that 120 years went by in Noah's day before the end came so maybe it would be the same now. She then said that there was no way this system could last another 20 years much less till 2034. That had to have been back in the year 2000 or so. I don't remember seeing that in print anywhere. That "apostate" thought just came to me on my own. It would be interesting if that "apostate" thought turns out to be the next big date the Society sets for the end. There I go again, running ahead of the organization. Getting light from Jehovah before the faithful slave does.

Speculating on the future for pioneers
by OnTheWayOut ini am sure i could apply my speculations to other countries, but i know the usa, so i am .
being specific about pioneers in the usa.. the pressure to pioneer instead of marrying or raising a family (or both) was considerable in .
armageddon was coming, afterall.

Having a title is very important in this type of organization, especially for those who have had one for a while. So telling older ones that they can still call themselves pioneers is good for their egos and keeps them out there knocking on doors. That does bring down the average hrs for pioneers. That of course looks bad on the KM report. Oh course most witnesses don't even notice when the average hrs for aux and reg pioneers are below their respective targets. What a bunch of slacker pioneers.

I think to keep pioneers they will drop the hours for auxiliary pioneers down to 20 hours a month and regular pioneers down to say 30 or maybe 40. That way they can put more pressure on the rank and file and make them feel guilty for not being able to give Jehovah even 20 hours a month. Just imagine all the excitement when the kingdom ministry announces that August 2007 had the highest number of auxiliary pioneers ever!!!! Oh, look how Jehovah is blessing his people. Oh course, that will be a sign of Jehovah's blessing on the arrangement and a sign that Jehovah is speeding up the work in these last days. New light, new light, new light, blah, blah, blah.

Today Is My Point of No Return - Or Is It?
by TheMan inalmost every night, i would get a phone call from my book study overseer, asking how i was, where i was.
whereas witnesses, when they experience hard times, stop going to meetings?
of course, my wife and i want to leave the witnesses, and i don't want to offend anyone in the process.

Well, no one here is going to tell you what to do. That is what the borg does. I can tell you this much though, it could be worse. I lost my marriage because I could no longer make myself believe what I knew wasn't true. The answer to your question may be, what kind of life do you want your child to have. You get to choose what environment to raise him/her in. And since you and your wife are on the same page you should be alright regardless of when you leave, cold turkey or slow fade. And, I wouldn't recommend it, but, if you feel guilty about the shower gifts, you could always give them back.

I "served" at Brooklyn Bethel in '98 and '99. Going to Bethel was the beginning of the end for me. The first year at Bethel you are expected to read the entire Bible cover to cover. Well I did that, but I went one step further. I started reading from some of the older publications that I had never seen before. (Stuff you could only find in Bethel libraries.) Well it didn't take long for me to start seeing that there was a whole lot that the Society had been wrong about in the past. It took another 5 years before I left the borg, but if it weren't for what I was exposed to while at Bethel I might still be in today. Thank God for Bethel. zugz

Here's my latest Watchtower poem, actually my only Watchtower poem. I posted it here a while ago. I call it "Watchtower Chameleon" because the society is always changing and disguising itself.
Watchtower Chameleon Watchtower Chameleon, ever changing spots
Watchtower Chameleon, ever changing thoughts
Watchtower Chameleon, sell a bunch of books
Watchtower Chameleon, what a bunch of crooks
In 1874, Christ was on his way
In 1874, that's what Russell had to say
When nothing happened, something had to give
Christ had to find, somewhere else to live
Jesus has returned, that is what he said
Jesus had returned, but only in his head
No one had seen him, no one could he find
He was invisible, to all of humankind
So the first lie, was being conceived
Thousands upon thousands, would be deceived
That was the answer, that would be the key
No one had seen him, he had returned invisibly
That was his story, no one could prove him wrong
That was his story, he was standing strong
It became part of, his theology
Something he would call, Bible chronology
Watchtower Chameleon, ever changing spots
Watchtower Chameleon, ever changing thoughts
Watchtower Chameleon, change another teaching
Watchtower Chameleon, always overreaching
In 1914, the end was at hand
In 1914, that was their stand
Oh Armageddon, was coming any day
All of that preaching, had prepared the way
But off to heaven, they did not go
What was the problem, they did not know
Perhaps it would take, just a few years more
But surely surely, they were at heaven's door
In 1918, Christendom was gonna fall
In 1918, "get out of Babylon" was their mighty call
But that didn't happen, the church's are still here
Why it didn't happen, they weren't very clear
In 1925, they made a mighty cry
"Millions now living, will never die"
The faithful men of old, were on their way
They even made them, a place where they could stay
Watchtower Chameleon, ever changing spots
Watchtower Chameleon, ever changing thoughts
Watchtower Chameleon, what will they teach today
Watchtower Chameleon, only the foolish will obey
In the 1930's, they said not to marry
The end was so close, it was truly scary
Everyone was excited, in 1941
Only a few months, till this world would be done
Then came the 1950's, with no end in sight
Then came the 1960's, with ever changing "light"
Suddenly vaccinations, would be okay
But from transfusions, they would have to stay away
They gave more value to the blood, than the life it stood for
So many lives lost from this shit, they're rotten to the core
Saying that a symbol such as blood, is more important than your life
Is like saying that the ring on her finger, is more important than your wife
They had their opinions, and that was just fine
But they presented their opinions, as if they were divine
"Channel of communication," that is what they claimed
Jehovah's Witnesses, that is what they're named
Watchtower Chameleon, ever changing spots
Watchtower Chameleon, ever changing thoughts
Watchtower Chameleon, time is getting short
Watchtower Chameleon, fill out your time report
In 1975, something new for the faithful's ears
In 1975, the completion of 6,000 years
Sell all of your possessions, and become pioneers
Oops looks like they were wrong, wipe away all those tears
In 1984, rumors were all a buzz
In 1984, rumors is all it was
In 1986, came the year of International Peace
In 1986, the world did not cease
In 1995, the biggest change of all
In 1995, the end they would have to stall
"This generation" was now, no longer tied to a date
Bible chronology had surely failed, isn't that just great
Of one thing I am sure, of this I have no doubt
The Tower will continue to change, and to lose all of it's clout
Until it falls you and I, must continue to scream and shout
"The Watchtower has fallen," and help others to get out
Watchtower Chameleon, ever changing spots
Watchtower Chameleon, ever changing thoughts
Watchtower Chameleon, look how it has changed
Watchtower Chameleon, oh how deranged -

"G-job" stood for government job. I never found out why but that is what I was told. I worked in electrical maintenance so I had plenty of opportunity for g-jobs. $25 per hour. That was apparently not good for New York City but it was great for a Bethelite from the midwest who had never earned more that $17 per hour back home. Four hours on a Saturday and 6 hours on a Sunday and I would make as much money as I received from Bethel for 3 months of work. (When I was at Brooklyn we were pullin down $95 per month) My night watchman assignment was over at the factory. I always thought it was pretty sad that they had to have us use those punch cards as proof that we had actually made the rounds. I guess the governing body had no delusions about Bethelites being honest about their actions. They knew they were a bunch of liars so they must have figured that most Bethelites would also lie.
