i remember one of my childhood friends was found dead and the police said he committed suicide.
i just could not believe it because my friend was a "devout" jw almost franatical about it.
now years later since i have seen both sides of the coin i am beginning to wonder if my friend did indeed kill himself.

it's been over a year now since my dad died.
i feel sad about it a lot because i don't believe i will never see him again.
i realised today that being raised a dub has closed my eyes to different views on death.. what do some of you believe happens after death??
I'm sorry about your loss :( I've been going through similiar soul-searching since I lost my grandmother recently.
Mulan recommended a book that really comforted me. It's a fiction book, but it brought me more comfort than just about anything else I have read on the subject...it's called The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom.
I still don't know what to believe, I just know I miss my grandma so much.

i've been reading christopher hitchen's love poverty, and war.
it's a pretty good book that puts a lot of things in perspective regarding iraq, iran, pakistan...there's even a section on mother teresa.
this section...was probably the most interesting part of the whole book i have read so far.
Kenneson I don't see what connection a person's own charitable works has to do with their factual criticism of someone's work. The argument you seem to be pushing is; "If you haven't done charitable work you cannot criticise someone who has done charitable work even if there is room for criticism."
But maybe you don't mean that, as that's silly.

I also don't think giving and honest opinion of other people's works are mutually exclusive. Especially one who put herself into the spotlight because of her acts. You're right, Kenneson, there are exceptions.
You have got to look at how charities really work; where the money really goes. Because in a lot of cases, most of the donations do not get to their intended recipients.

I just wanted to clarify in light of grannylinda's post that I wasn't suggesting that anybody post any deep dark secrets on the open forum. I was just trying to say that no matter what a person is going through, that there is someone else out there who has been through it too, so you wouldn't feel down on yourself, whatever the issue is.
You seem to be on the right track, just keep reading, asking questions, and you will find your way.

i've been taking things way too personally lately, letting posters i don't know and don't particularly care about, hurt my feelings badly.

It's so easy to criticize. And all who are critical, exactly what are you doing to alleviate suffering?
Kenneson, you will never know how much people do individually that is never known publicly or spoken of and they prefer it that way. I've seen them do it. I've seen many here give and give, they just prefer to keep it quiet as possible.
