I was born into the witnesses and lived as one for 19 years. Anytime I asked questions as a kid I got my head bit off for not having enough faith. Thankfully the harsh answers to my questions only made me more curoious (though I kept it to myself after that). I was finally able to get free at 21. Although I enjoy my life now, sometimes I do feel as though I had a wasted childhood.

wasted life part 2
by littlemike inthank for all the messages a couple of days ago.
its frighening how we all accpeted it as the truth because they told us it was.
how many witnesses who were born into it like me ever did any research to really find out if it was what it claimed.

Presents all year round!
by Nosferatu inso, how many of you got presents all year round?
most worldly kids get 2 days of presents a year, birthdays and christmas.
some even get something on easter, valentine's day, and st. patrick's day!

Pretty much same here. My parents celebrated their anniversary, but all that meant to me was that they got to have a special day and I didn't. And the only present I got year-round was a ton of teasing from everyone at my school.

Has this happened to anyone?
by Purza inso my mother opens the door for a discussion (via email) and i totally freeze up.
i find it almost impossible to tell her how i feel about the jw religion.
when i finally figure out what i want to say, she completely dismisses my thoughts.

I think that lots of us have had that happen, Purza. But please keep trying. My husband didn't give up on me and I'm forever grateful. If no one had cared enough to keep trying to get through to me I would still be trapped. If you ever get through to your mom, she won't be able to thank you enough.
You have my prayers.

YPA: Why do householders get to decide for themselves if they want to be involved with the JW's but we don' t get any choice in the matter?
YPA: Will I die at armageddon if my skirt actually shows my kneecap?
YPA: Why do I have to do presentations on the service meeting every week, just because my dad is an elder.
YPA: Will I die at armageddon because I had impure thoughts while brother hottie had to read from the song of solomon during the TM School?

Most hated WT publication
by Nosferatu inwhat is the wt publication you hated the most?
why did you hate it?
for me, it was probably that damn pink great teacher book.

As a former pioneer, my most hated had to be my Illuminators book. It made me feel horrible to know that I was in on the whole "secret" publication thing. Not to mention that pioneer school itself was drudgery.

APRIL 20, 2004 DAILY TEXT
by in a new york bethel minute ini opened the daily text yesterday at dinner with my family, and at first glance i see the scripture quotation of april 20. short and to the point, i must admit.... "she just made us come.
"- acts 16:15. as funny as that scripture is by itself, what's funnier is that there is so much more to verse 15. i dont know if someone did that on purpose, but it's just such a weird piece of scripture to put, without putting the first part of the scripture there, so that it actually makes some kind of sense and means something.
i read the text at least twice a week and i have found that they do that frequently.

My parents have been JWs forever. I wish I could tell you that this kind of crap is unusual, but unfortunately it's about on par for a good little witness family. My dad's congregation was recently disbanded due to his misconduct. Your mother still asociates with you??? Mine haven't so much as said hello to me since 1/01. I think it's better that way because I don' t have to deal with all that emotional crap all the time. I do miss them, though. Best of luck in your situation.

I think it's a little busy too. Kind of detracts from what the website is about.

How many were raised as a JW during their teenage years?
by codeblue in.

me too
"I never got to really be a normal teenager. We were too busy preparing for the "end"."
I was a born and raised 5th generation JW. They managed to ruin my entire life including teenage years. I can't begin to thank everyone who runs these websites enough. They have been my main source of true information for the past several years. Normally I'm what people call a lurker because I still feel odd talking about it sometimes. But I thank everyone for the inciteful information.
