Worried about work :S
by Elsewhere into give everyone a brief history.... i started a 4 to 6 month contract to hire position in early feb. the hope is that i will eventually become a permanent employee.
a few weeks ago i had a little chat with my supervisor asking him how things were looking for me to become a perm employee... he responded that there was currently a hireing freeze that was just put into place and i needed wait.
he added an ominous comment that i could look for perm work elsewhere if i wanted... but added that i was doing a great job.. today i came into work to find two new *perm* employees setting up in their work areas .

That happened to me once, not in an IT company but same thing exactly. I was temping and when they got money to make the position permanent they brought someone else in, although they'd said I was doing a good job for months. I thought afterwards, of course they said I was doing a good job, they didn't want to lose me till they'd found someone else. I don't know if I was really lousy but the best they could do for the time being, or if someone just didn't like me, or what. It might just be some numbnuts policy or the new guys might be friends of someone in the HR department, you may never know. But I'd start looking around for other work if I were you, because no matter what happens, it's always better to be pro-active in these situations, if only for your own self-respect.

I really don't want or need them for friends anyway
by Sadie5 injust dropping in for a short visit.
the last couple of weeks i have run into quite a few witnesses at wal-mart where i work.
most of them talk to me, in fact one asked for my help yesterday in picking out some clothes, she had just had a masectomy and needed some new blouses.. it was right after that i ran (almost litereally) into another one this one i usually just see from a distance so didn't know if she saw me or not before this but here we were standing face to face.

That's truly nasty, when you were in a position where you had to be polite to her. I feel angry just hearing the story. But when JWs act like that, I just think, oh well, they punish themselves every minute of the day with a religion that makes them miserable. Then I feel better because whatever they did to me, at least I don't have to be a JW any more.

Have any of you read the Philip Pullman trilogy? They're a bit like the Harry Potter books but about a million times better.

Or we could really drive them crazy by making and discussing their starcharts. Or GUESSING what signs they are. What do you think, are they all Aquarius suns? (I am actually lousy at guessing people's star signs.)

Haven't we heard all the arguments against it now? It's irrational. It's not scientific. It has no basis in any facts that ever have been produced or that ever will be produced anytime anywhere in the universe by anyone of any intelligence. I'd be completely amazed if there's anybody on here who doesn't know the rationalist contempt for astrology. I personally don't care if anyone else accepts it, I don't shun anyone who doesn't accept it, I don't even dislike anyone who doesn't accept it. Unlike JWs, we are not sitting around trying to prove that we're right and rationalists are wrong. We're just trying to have some fun.

If you were close as two gnats in a navel (I'd like to have a whole list of those expressions) when you were kids, why not get in touch with her? I have relationship with my JW family on the basis that I just never ever mention the org, and it has been worth it. True, I have had to sit there patiently when they have witnessed to me, urrrggghh, but I overlook it because I love them. I understand how people who can't get along with a relative anyway might not want to bother. But I think that sometimes people who avoid their JW relatives just because they ARE JWs are actually helping enforce the idiot policy of ostracising unbelievers. And there's always the chance that if she ever starts having doubts, she might think of you as a person to reach out to.

Is Watchman guilty of the same "sin"?
by Schizm inas many of you likely know, the owner of the e-watchman website constantly charges the wts with having committed spiritual fornication with the united nations organization (the so-called ngo affair).
i would like to ask you all a question in order to find out your opinion as to whether or not watchman has done a near equivalent thing that he charges the wts with having done.
most of you were probably aware that watchman once advertised the e-watchman site on this site here (jw.com).

Well, I'm in my usual position of thinking both sides have a point. It seems obvious that if Watchman is a JW then HE thinks this is an apostate site (according to that special, eccentric JW definition of apostate) so it does seem kind of hypocritical of him to post an advert on here. But since JWs are almost always hypocritical about practically everything, I can't myself quite see why get het up about this particular instance of it. And I do agree with Corvin that it's a basically good thing. And who knows what Watchman's particular frame of mind was when he decided to do it? The only consistency you can expect from JWs is that will be consistently inconsistent. Watching them get tangled up in all their confusing, contradictory rules is kind of fun.
