  the first time i exposed myself to apostates, i was imagining matured people, more matured than the jw's.

  If you really are a JW, reason, I can't understand why you're disappointed, I'd have thought you'd be thrilled to find us just what the WBTS says we are. But what on earth WERE you expecting? I'm really curious.

  Why does the WTBTS survive?

  back in late 1973 when i got my fatal doubts about the wtbts, i was sure that the society would crumble soon after 1975 when yet another prediction failed.

  i was not alone with this thought; a british author by the name of stevenson (an exjw that had written an expose) allocated an entire chapter in his book about the likelihood that there would be a very major falling away in 1976 or soon thereafter.. but it didn't happen.

  yes, there were several years of consecutive worldwide declines.

  I tend to think it survives partly because it suits some people psychologically, for various reasons. It offers a strong authority structure, a sense of mission, apocalyptic fantasies, a persecution complex, a superiority complex, delusions of safety in a hard world, and the promise of being god's chosen ones. That's always going to be attractive to some people. I also think that people join and stay out of deep family loyalty, which has a power that can't be underestimated. But I think even if they gave up disfellowshipping, it would survive. I mean, lots of other eccentric little religions survive.

  the bible clearly defined what an apostate is: loose morals, like dogs returning to their vomit, arrogant and haughty, impatient, cynics, causing divisions, have trouble following authority-all of these qualities, all summed up, i saw here.. if i am simba, i wouldn't want people like you in pride land.

  you people will only cause trouble and problems.

  Face it, reason, you're here for the obscene jestings. You're getting quite a bit of attention from all this melodrama, more than you ever get at the KH. Why don't you just loosen up and admit you want to be one of the gang? You won't get ready-made phony concern for your spiritual welfare here, like you do in the congregation, and you won't be able to use WBTS doctrine to bully people. But if that's so satisfying, why do you keep hanging out here? I think your problem is that you never learned how to make friends outside the org. For example, you need to stop talking about dog vomit and hyenas, it's not polite outside JW circles. If you need some help learning to make friends with non-JWs, I'm sure there are people on here would love to give you the benefit of their experience. Lots of people on here have had similar problems.

  Why didn't Sadam........?

  going back to the pre-war rhetoric it seemed to me that even the german and russian intelligence along with the english and american intelligence and previous inspectors all agreed that sadam had left over (and possibly made more) chemical wmd.

  proof seemed to be provided about what they *knew* he had at *some point* and it couldn't be accounted for.. it seems obvious now that sadam did, in fact, destroy it long ago.. my question - why didn't he just prove it to the inspectors?

  why not avoid all of this if he could?

  I smoke. Fortunately I live in Germany so I don't get bothered about it much. You can smoke in a restaurant or even the airport. It must be really unpleasant for nonsmokers, and I think it's going to change and get more strict here. I know that's a good thing.
