I haven't read any JW experience on here that I felt was untrue. But I saw many nasty things in the org with my own two eyes, so I wasn't skeptical to start with. I also think, well, people do nasty things to each other all the time, my god, just watch Jerry Springer. JWs are just people in the end, so what's surprising about it?

How True Are The Testimonies On This Board.?
by Paradise Found inits easy to belive what we read and accept as truth.when my wife came to the computer i left on the screen a post on what happend at bethel (not intentionally) ..she read it and said i dont belive it?
i would like to belive what i read on this board is 100 % true.
iam grateful for the truth on the u:n and more and more stuff that blows my mind away.and also personal stories that have had a profound effect on me.. sadly iam certain with-out doubt that the majority of exsperinences on this board are true because no matter how sincere a person is when you allow people to have a higher legal position in the land they live in than the law of the land they live in( no matter how bad or corrupt the society of the land we live in.

Dear PF
I am an English speaker who lives in Germany and I know exactly how you feel, I mean EXACTLY. I say something in German and then I get a blank look from people and I feel really anxious, because I don't know if it means that they misunderstood me, disagreed with me, thought it was all gibberish, or just don't like me much. And I worry all the time that I've hurt people's feelings unintentionally.
Yesterday I discussed this with a group of German speakers, and I was astonished to find that most of them sometimes feel embarrassed, misunderstood, frustrated and and maladjusted in their own language. That helped me a lot, as I had thought they all were very confident. True communication is difficult, with or without language differences (but more difficult with them, for sure).

Israeli Spy at the Pentagon...
by dolphman inhas anyone heard anymore on this issue.
someone in the upper ranks of the pentagon was working for israel, giving them memos on our possible actions against tehran.
the problem is, the person is also suspected of being the conduit from which we recieved those bs reports of iraq developing nuclear weapon technology.. it shows how uncomfortably close we are with israel's politics and policys, and how they can manipulate us.

I really think we should make a distinction between Jews and Israel. Not all Jews are Israelis, and not all Jews support Israel. To comment on Israel's government and policies is not anti-Semitic, any more than talking about America's government and policies is anti-American. To talk about Jews running the world IS anti-Semitic.

All your recommendations on how to develop a social network....here
by logansrun inone of the most difficult aspects of leaving the jws is finding a new social network to replace the social network you have lost.
finding friends among the jws is not usually a difficult task, but finding them outside the organization can be daunting, especially considering you were told not to develop a social life "in the world.
" discussion boards like this are great...but not enough.

Gosh, logansrun, you have a very nice board personality, if that's your personality in life, I can't believe it would really be difficult to develop a social network. And you're a bloke, why not just go do some sports? Oh well, you probably hate sports.
The way you develop a social network is to just chat with people casually (probably best not to start with Thomas Kuhn). If there's a spark, you try to find a common interest. If you find a common interest you invite them to do something with you, preferably around that interest so you can keep talking on a shared theme. (I've made a number of friends over a shared love of Lori Anderson.)
Just remember that lots of times it doesn't work out with some particular person. Outside the Borg, people aren't required to keep seeing you (that can be a bit of a shock). But the important thing is to keep trying with new people. Eventually it does work out with one person, and then another, and then things snowball.
You probably wanted advice on how to meet people in the first place. But most people meet people all day long. The problem is connecting to them.

sources declined to identify the suspected spy
but this administration had no similar compunctions about outing one of their own spies, Valerie Pflame. Hmmm.

I think if I loved a guy, I wouldn't mind. But I've never loved a hairy guy. Still, bottom line is personality. Only, once I knew who a guy who was so hairy that he couldn't shave his face because he wouldn't know where to stop. He was hairier than this guy, I mean you couldn't see the skin on his neck. And I did think then that I hoped I never DID fall in love with a man that hairy.

A Very Sad Shell-Shocking Day
by Amazing1914 inwhy is it our lot as former members of the watchtower organization to suffer so much emotional pain?
just when we think we have reached some level of putting it all behind us, something new pops up to bite us hard.
a couple that i have been very close to just sent me a very sad e-mail.

JWs seem to have a habit of making other people responsible for their own feelings and choices. Like when they shun people and then say it is the shunned person's fault for abandoning Jehovah, or when they blame women for dressing in a way that they respond to sexually, etc. They're back in now, and in blaming you and other xjws, their acting how JWs act, that's all.
I think it's also possible that your friends actually feel guilty towards you and so naturally, they want to make you feel guilty and they know a good way to do it.

Your opinions please
by anew infirst, i apologize if this goes through twice, i cannot find the original post.
my question is how do you feel about halloween.
i grew up as jw and never celebrated anything.
-
myauntfanny
I'm neutral about Halloween. I never celebrated it as a kid (of course) but other than the candy I had no real interest. I'm not a dressing up and saying boo! sort of person. I don't know if I believe in evil spirits or not. Probably I don't, although sometimes the way people behave makes me wonder. But I don't have any feeling that Halloween is about evil spirits. I think that deep down it's a holiday that is about remembering our dead ancestors. I think this is reflected by the fact that it is actually a very joyous holiday.
