I lived in England for a few years so I had my ideas about Brits (Scottish, Irish and English are all rather different) before I got to this board. In person I found them, in general, rather more Mike Leigh than Jon Cleese (don't get me wrong, I love Mike Leigh) but you guys on this board are pretty darn funny.

a question for the 'mericans, of which we have one or two here.
you've probably communicated with more brits here than you had in all your life before joining this board.. leaving aside the stereo type brit of the movies, stiff upper-lip, unarmed policemen, morris minors and mini's, are we just as you expected us to be?.

I finally did it !!
by Junction-Guy infor most of my adult life i have always been reluctant to mention that i was raised a jw, just out of pure embarassment, it has always been a source of shame for me.
last night i was finally able to tell people that i work with that my family are jw's.
the whole thing that started the conversation was another officer talking about an inmate in the hospital having a blood transfusion, that was my way in to the conversation.

I kind of enjoy telling people I was raised JW. They always look shocked because I am so utterly opposite of a JW in every way, and they wonder how on earth I got from there to here. It's gratifying after all those years of being the dorkiest kid in school. I personally don't like anti-witnessing because for me it's too close to witnessing. I don't ever have to want to try and convince anybody of anything again. More power to those who have the energy for it, though.

I am sitting here eating...
by myauntfanny insomething that is really vile but i am wondering if i'll acquire a taste for it.
i went into a very posh gourmet chocolate shop today, and feeling cheap got the cheapest chocolate in the shop.
it was still expensive.

No, kls, I finally got up the strength of character to throw it away. First I tried picking the peppercorns out, but it didn't work. Really, it was just nauseating. Why would someone DO that to chocolate, I wonder.

I usually hate these threads, but.... who is FMZ?
by FMZ inok... as the title states... i usually see these threads as the author being really up themselves, but something just occured to me, and i would like an opinion.. those who have seen me in chat / pm'ed me / read enough of my posts have seen me joke around.
i flirt (with members of the opposite sex, and the same sex), play around, mock people, once in a while get depressed... etc etc.... but... in real life i am so different than all this.
i am a loving husband (very straight) and step father at 21 years of age.

You seem totally straight, not stoned, and not a whacked out freak. Totally totally normal.

I couldn't see anything in there to skew or bias. It's all stuff that's either true or untrue. And I'm pretty sure it's all a matter of public record, stuff anyone could find out.

Does the Watchtower Society stunt personal development and growth
by truthseeker inwith so many "responsibilities" given to the witnesses by the "faithful and discreet slave", there is little time for them to do anything these days except sleep - and that is when they're not out preaching at unearthly hours in the morning.. .
the enormous pressure to perform, and to be under the watch of the elders to make sure you perform, is a draining experience.. .
a book i have on sociology says this regarding jehovah's witnesses, when discussing sects, that "they require intensive commitments and demonstrations of belief by members.

Apostate??!! Last I checked, this is where the discussion of Jehovah's Witnesses took place.
I don't understand that. What do you mean? As far as I have been able to see, there's hardly any JWs on here, and hundreds of people whose feelings and words range from disdain to hatred. This site is like the most apostate thing I have ever seen. You're not even allowed to accept religious literature from people at the door, for heavens sake. For a JW this site is the equivalent of going to CBGBs and getting...oh never mind.

That is what Diet Coke is for. It washes away the Cheezits (and extends the palate delightfully as it does so) and simutaneously soothes the nerves.
Well, I just never thought of that. I guess that's why you're the supreme one, and I'm not.
Hey, how many posts does a person need to be the omniscient omnipotent one?
