I also have trouble understanding the necessity of all these ploys. But being a girl I never had any responsibility or standing to lose, and I had no friends whatsoever in the congregation. I guess if you had all that you would have ties that would tug on you and make it hard to just do the simplest thing, which is tell them to f right off, you aren't interested any more.

Corvin, I grew up in San Diego, those pictures make me homesick as hell. I used to go see Shakespeare with my grandmother in Balboa Park. I am having major flashbacks now. Thanks for posting those.

Jadedlady, your story made me tear up a little too. I can't really understand how they pick the people the pick to be "bad association". Probably you were just too intelligent. I don't think they like that much. Anyway, welcome to the board.

The Bird and My Daughter
by simplesally inwe have a crazy bird here!
for days now, this bird has been flying into our kitchen window trying to get the cute bird to mate with him.
first he was sitting on our chair on the front porch and flying into the one of the windows alongside the front door.

some people think animals dont have feelings.
I know it's considered completely daft but I'm convinced animals have feelings.

Sundays bloody Sundays
by DanTheMan ini posted a thread by a similar name a while back.
i've found that not much has changed since then - i still am finding that often get into a funkybaddepressedanxious mood on sundays.
is it the fact that i have to go to work the next day, to a job that i don't necessarily hate but don't necessarily love either?

Hi patio34
They're homeopathic, and there's I think 92 of them. They were invented/discovered/channelled by an English doctor named Bach (it's pronounced Batch). Homeopathy usually doesn't work on me but I find these do work. The remedies are rather eccentric (which adds to the charm of it all) and include things like Wild Oat for finding your true path in life, Mimulus for fear of unknown things, Scleranthus for when you can't decide between two options (not more), and Star of Bethlehem for after effects of shock. And so on. There really is no scientific basis at all for their working, as they do not even include extracts of the plants, they are merely irradiated on the same table with the plants (or something like that). But I'm not afraid of the irrational, and I like them. They seem to work. I'm not sure where you buy them in the States, they're at any chemists in England. I think you can probably get them at the health food store. I did find them in the States once, but I can't remember what sort of shop it was. But you can find anything on Internet now.

The abuse seems to go all the way to the top
by myauntfanny in.
this article by seymour herschel in the new yorker says that the abuse has been going on for some time, was in the process of being investigated when it was exposed, and involves far more people than the six now being tried.

I always had this problem, just a general sense of doom and unease and depression on Sundays. It lasted through numerous jobs, and blissful unemployment as well, so I couldn't blame my job. I assumed it was because Sundays were a very bad day at home in my childhood, but knowing that never seemed to help. I got into Bach flower remedies and there is one for inexplicable depression (Mustard) and I took it and it worked. That was about eight years ago and I just don't have those kind of Sundays any more, ever.
Rationalists please don't flame me. I know perfectly well it's not scientifically based. It's probably placebo effect. Or maybe I just coincidentally got better at that time. I don't care. It seemed to work, and that's good enough for me.

i guess i am the only one here who thinks Churchill is the most overestimated politician of the last centruy.
My understanding (and I am weak on history, as I have a brain that doesn't retain facts very well) was that Churchill admired Hitler and did actually try to negotiate with him. I thought that Churchill was extremely anti-semitic (as were most English people and indeed most of Europe at the time), and that Churchill would not have cared tuppence if Hitler had just kept his activities domestic. But Hitler didn't stop at just exterminating Jews, he wanted to conquer Europe.
