Ground Zero

sitting around a campfire last weekend, a few of us were discussing what is "going on" on the rebuilding or the construction of what is being built at ground zero in nyc.. we all agreed that we see nothing on the news....we see nothing in magazines....we hear nothing at all about the progress (or lack of) in whatever was chosen to be built there!

it is as if this never happened.....at least to those of us far beyond walking past the site to actually see what is going on!

(being 400 miles away from nyc!).

I agree, there appears to be not much going on concerning the rebuilding of the WTC.

There is however a lot going on.

Much of the work is focused on the remediation and clean up of the hazardous materials in the soil under the site.

This process could continue at least until the end of the year up to 18 months. I work in the environmental industry and have quite a few clients involved on the clean up work as we speak.

I believe that the building developer has setled with most of the insurance companies who indeminified the site for the full insurance policiy limits or close to it, so the funds for the clean up and rebuild should be available.

Also, if you know much about construction projects, I am sure you are aware that nothing gets done on time, especially in NY, so who really knows how long it will be before we see the finished project.

Bethel - Forced retirement question

i was recently told by a friend that many bethelites that attended congos in brooklyn ny were among thoses who were asked to leave.. .

according to my friend, many of these bethelites were offered the chance to serve as "special pioneers" in other areas.

these other areas were rural areas in the us and the borg has offered to pay for their housing and living expenses indefinitely if the agrred to stay in the full time work.. since this friend is an inactive dub (like myself) who always feels the need to defend the borg, i have some misgivings about this information.. does anyone have any factual information about compensation being given to members of bethel who were asked to leave?.

Do You Approach Disfellowshipped JWs?

for those of you active jws, though mentally inactive of course, do you you approach the disfellowshipped?.

there was a disfellowshipping announced in my congregation last week and i had the mind to talk to her.

there is also a dfed brother that lives on my street.

I am faded so I am not active, but I always talk to those that are DFed.

But sometimes they won't talk to me.

How long do the elders expect a DF'd person to wait before coming back?

when i attended meetings years ago, if a brother or sister got df'd they weren't supposed to come back to their meetings right away even if they wanted to repent..... if i remeber well, you had to stay away from the meetings for a few months and them come back if you wished, as if to show that you made changes in your lifestyle and then decided to come back.. if you were disfellowshipped and went back to the meetings right after, it was a sign that you didn't understand what happened to you and you weren't trying to fix what you did wrong.. .

maybe it was different in other congregations..

It took me 3 months.

But that was in the early 90's.

Things may have changed since then.

Sounds like him.

I am sure their was a very unhappy service overseer after that mix up.

I was in field service with him once and an elderly sister was having a hard time getting into a small car. The elder driving the car became impatient waiting for her to get in and he yelled at his wife to get out of the car and help the sister. L Brown heard this and without missing a beat yelled back to the elder, "why don't you get off you fat butt and help your elderly sister".

Needless to say the elder was completely embrassed in front of the entire FS group, but we all had a good laugh about it later on behind his back.

There are tons of stories about L Brown.

We used to call him JR's evil twin..

Minimus, L Brown was black and he also served in Brooklyn and I think Queens NY.

He was not a company man and he did not think that the elders should get involved with family matters

My dad who was not a dub got along really well with him and when ever he visited our congo, he always stopped by to watch sports on TV with my dad.

Pedro and Levine? Hines.

They were from I think Philly and were in their early 30's attractive and had graduated college.

They actually encouraged me to go to college and I was made a MS my sophmore year. I was also a poineer at the time, but at least most of them left me alone about my education.

JR Brown was also my CO for a time, and I considered him to be a mentor to me.

He tried to talk me into going to Bethel, but I back out at the last minute.

BETHELITES - Whatever Became of?

i often times wonder what happened to certain bethelites that i ran around with during my 1990s tenure there.

while there are still a few left there, the greater majority of them aren't there for various reasons (marriage, disillusionment, left the borg, etc).

a couple of cats i wonder about - there was one brother who i believe was from kansas, who got his fingers cut off in a printing press.

Wunce - Wuz, I remember Jerry Jackson very well.

If it is the same one, he served in my congo and his family back home was full of elders and pioneers. he cause a big stir when he married a very beautiful newly baptistized divorced woman who was about 10 years older then him and had a young son.

His family and the congo was not happy.

I believe they moved down south after spending a brief stint in Brooklyn.

Anyone remember Rob Marable form Ohio ?
