My Message To You
by OrbitingTheSun into many people, the new year symbolizes hope--a chance to cast away that which has bothered us, and to cultivate all of the things we have dreamt about throughout the year (but never found the energy to do).
i both believe in and love the spirit of the new year, but it is vital for us to remember that the hope we feel now is merely the result of a collective belief in ourselves and in each other.
there is no more opportunity on january 1st than there is on any other day of the year, yet we feel inspired and motivated to change our lives.

Federal law allows recording of phone calls and other electronic communications with the consent of at least one party to the call. A majority of the states and territories have adopted wiretapping statutes based on the federal law, although most have also extended the law to cover in-person conversations. Thirty-eight states and the District of Columbia permit individuals to record conversations to which they are a party without informing the other parties that they are doing so. These laws are referred to as "one-party consent" statutes, and as long as you are a party to the conversation, it is legal for you to record it. (Nevada also has a one-party consent statute, but the state Supreme Court has interpreted it as an all-party rule.)
Twelve states require, under most circumstances, the consent of all parties to a conversation. Those jurisdictions are California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington. Be aware that you will sometimes hear these referred to inaccurately as "two-party consent" laws. If there are more than two people involved in the conversation, all must consent to the taping.
It shouldnt need to be said, but it is illegal in all states to record a conversation to which you are not a party, do not have consent to tape, and could not naturally overhear.

So sorry and pissed that you have to go through this. This will probably be the hardest thing your family will have to cope with. I am deeply saddend for your daughter.I am not surprised by what brother Y said to you....not after what we went through. My family had to deal with this also several years ago and it was the worst thing we ever had to endure.Wish I could tell you it will be easy..at least you do have an advantage..with all the recent media coverage . If there is ANYthing I can do ...PLEASE let me know. If you don't know about Kim Norris here is her wed site. http://www.lovenorrisattorneys.com/

((((((DeDe)))))...I really don't think you have anything to worry about (check out Number 2) If there is a war..even if he was drafted the war would more than likely be over before he even made it out of boot camp.
Sequence of Events
Here is a brief overview of what would occur if the United States returned to a draft:
1. CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENT AUTHORIZE A DRAFT A crisis occurs which requires more troops than the volunteer military can supply. Congress passes and the President signs legislation which starts a draft.
2. THE LOTTERY A lottery based on birthdays determines the order in which registered men are called up by Selective Service. The first to be called, in a sequence determined by the lottery, will be men whose 20th birthday falls during that year, followed, if needed, by those aged 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25. 18-year-olds and those turning 19 would probably not be drafted.
3. ALL PARTS OF SELECTIVE SERVICE ARE ACTIVATED The Agency activates and orders its State Directors and Reserve Forces Officers to report for duty. See also Agency Structure.
4. PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND MORAL EVALUATION OF REGISTRANTS Registrants with low lottery numbers are ordered to report for a physical, mental, and moral evaluation at a Military Entrance Processing Station to determine whether they are fit for military service. Once he is notified of the results of the evaluation, a registrant will be given 10 days to file a claim for exemption, postponement, or deferment. See also Classifications .
5. LOCAL AND APPEAL BOARDS ACTIVATED AND INDUCTION NOTICES SENT Local and Appeal Boards will process registrant claims. Those who pass the military evaluation will receive induction orders. An inductee will have 10 days to report to a local Military Entrance Processing Station for induction.
6. FIRST DRAFTEES ARE INDUCTED According to current plans, Selective Service must deliver the first inductees to the military within 193 days from the onset of a crisis.

Tolerance
by Xena inyou know most of us spend a large part of our lives in a religion that allowed for no independant thinking.
we were taught and taught others that ours was the only way and anyone who thought differently was going to be judged unworthy and die.
anyone who presumed to think outside the box was branded "apostate" or not good association.

You can disagree with someone without being rude. Human compassion is becoming more and more rare...it's really sad when you feel a need to belittle someone. When I am guilty of it ...it's usually because I don't feel too good about myself.
