belief in angels & demons, the same as extraterrestrials?
by dh in.
are angels/demons/god in fact aliens?
i know that word 'alienz' will put a lot of people off, but really, are extraterrestrials the same thing as the beings in the bible, and is it just a choice in terminology of which words we are more comfortable with using, if you think they are not the same thing, why do you think this?.

Unlearning what one has learned. Can it be done?
by Blueblades in.
it has been said that one cannot unlearn what one has learned.when it comes to all the years of learning from the watchtower, is it easy or hard for you to unlearn, get it out of your mind so to speak and go on to learn newer and more meaningful things outside the walls of the watchtower.. when i was active in the watchtower there was the potentially endless cycle of assertions, analysis, counterassertions, qualifications, redefinitions, exceptions, extentuations, complications, hidden presuppositions, emotional colorings, and summations, ad infinitum.it had been exhausting.but now, i find a measure of relief, not from unlearning but from dismissing from my mind all of what i have learned from the watchtower for over 30 years.. and yet from time to time all those things taught by the watchtower for all those years resurface on my mind,so for me it is not easy to unlearn what i have learned.what about you?.

Can you "unlearn"? Sure you can!
Learning is that which results in a change in behavior (according to some class I took)...
If you have "learned" things that you now wish to unlearn, think of this: you learned once, you learn every day, you can learn again. Nothin' to it.
Are the things you heard while involved with WT influencing your behavior at present? Or are they just "memories"?
One of the more erudite members of this discussion board may wish to fancy up what I am saying which is....
It sounds to me like you are talking about "memories" and not "learning". Good. The discomfort associated with memories usually fades with the passage of time.
Keep moving forward..it will get easier!

Yes, it seems that something has a hold on you.
If you say "the organization" does, you will spin your wheels fighting WT.
If you say that "conditioning" is what held you back, there is hope. You can retrain your mind.
Think it through.

Same thought... http://groups.msn.com/feedback.msnw
I don't think that MSN meant Groups to be used solely as a link to a religious website.
If enough people complain...

Actually, I did see, but I didn't know how to put it all together.
When I started to study I made it a point to collect all the older publications, and I mean all the things that WT had ever printed! I read every single one of them. I studied them. I read a lot of them repeatedly, trying to make sense of the things that didn't match. I made notes, I asked Elders. I was given the cold shoulder. I asked the person I was studying with (it took me a looooong time to get to baptism) and her answer was that it didn't matter because those were just old things they didn't believe any more anyhow. I told myself that she just didn't have a very studious attitude and I kept asking. I got a reputation for having an "independent spirit". I even asked them about THAT, wondering how wanting to understand more about "The Truth" could be giving me an independent spirit.
I studied harder. I spent hours a day reading and thinking about what I had read. I spent more time talking to any JW that would listen. I didn't do this with an argumentative attitude, I really thought that other people knew what the solution was and that I was just missing the point!
I made myself sick. I think it would be called "cognitive dissonance". I became depressed. I couldn't understand why, although I kept searching for it, I wasn't able to come to an "accurate knowledge", and why, although I worked so hard to bring my life into harmony with the scriptures I could see that the things I was being taught were out of harmony themselves.
I guess that sums up most of what it was like to be a faithful witness, which is another way to say being blind and living in the dark. I was looking for the light but I didn't find it anywhere within WTBTS. It was only when I looked on the outside of "the organization" that I could see what was really going on. Most JW's haven't done that...yet. The seeds are there. A lot of JW's are goodhearted and intelligent people. Give them time. They will find the light.

"Living well is the best revenge."
It also helps get people out of WT.

What do you think about this?
by desib77 ini have a coworker who likes to joke around about me being fired....he actually just started not long ago..i've been there several years now and work at home most of the week.
it was okay the first time he told me he overheard the boss talking about letting me go but now he like to call and tell me i'm fired...the thing is he is kind of under me.
my position is sr. and his is jr. it's kind of getting annoying.

It seems obvious to me that this person is after your job. Proceed with caution.
There are a number of ways you can handle this guy. I'm partial to this one:
Fake Serious. If he calls again with the message that you have been fired play it straight. Thank him for relaying the information and tell him that you will contact HR (or whoever handles that function in your organization) to wrap up your affairs. If he doesn't catch on to the seriousness of what he is doing (legally he is impersonating an Agent of the company) he will when HR gets finished with him.
Set him up. When he starts talking about how you are trying to hold him back in the company suggest to him that you heard it different, then start your own "joke" about HIM, targeting his own insecurities.
Whatever you do, don't let him know he's getting to you.

At one time the back issues had another lucrative use. The paper, cut to the proper size, worked beautifully in the dollar changers in laundramats.
