Say has anyone tried hemp protein yet? We are carrying the Nutiva brand at work now and I noticed it has like 14g of fiber and 11g protein - so nutritionally it looks pretty good but wondering about the taste. I like this one hemp granola they have out there but there's probably not enough in there to compare taste.

One thing I found recently is a shake mix called Alive! (not to be confused with Awake!) by Nature's Way. It's basically their multi-vitamin formula by the same name put into a meal replacement shake formula with some protein and such. The one I tried is the apple cinnamon flavor and it does taste pretty good, and because it's based on a multi vitamin the nutrient levels are better than your typical meal replacement shakes.

Attention and re-making yourself
by Markfromcali insomeone recently told me that there's a t-shirt with the message: "some say i have attention deficit disorder, but -- oh look, a chicken!
sometimes we talk about getting busy with life as a way of getting over the jw experience, but in reading the reconditiong thread it occurred to me to really get over it you need to put a decent amount of energy and work into it.
obviously to do that you have to really focus on it and pay attention to what's going on, which wouldn't be as simple as just going about your merry way and living life.

Good point, I guess you can say the work may be done without actually focusing on this (JW) or any particular issue, if we just look at it in terms of re-making yourself. It's basically a matter of whether it's done consciously or not, because of course either way life goes on.

In fact, we see that some are forced to do this at times because of the suffering it causes them. For others it may not be so bad, so maybe the question is just how far you want to go with it. Of course sometimes we all need to take a rest, and it's probably helpful to kind of re-integrate in that process, but it does make sense that the degree of concentration with which you bring to this issue will determine how much work actually gets done, doesn't it?

Since I don't really care about the opinions of critics I can't really address this, but I can tell you one movie that surprised me was Haiku Tunnel. Although it was recommended to me since I am a big fan of Office Space, (HT is also an office comedy) it seemed pretty slow in the beginning but did pick up later.

Did you believe life was always a gift no matter what the circumstances?
by LongHairGal ini had a discussion years ago with an elder about this topic.
he said life was a gift no matter what we had to endure.
(we were talking about people who went through horrible things e.g.

Here is another case where when you turn something into a belief it becomes.. well, bullsh!t.
One thing is a gift may not be something you necessarily like, it's just something that's given to you. And this also does not address who the gift is given to. So of course normally we would consider what the gift is and who it is given to, and depending on those two factors the experience may either be a positive or negative one.
Spiritually speaking, life always being a gift can only be the experience of someone who has already died, so that the second factor is taken out of the equation. That is a rare state to find someone in, and it does no good to impose it as an idea to believe in. The reaction from the elder actually shows how this individual was just faking it, because if that was where he was coming from he would also consider that conversation a gift, and consider you a gift - rather than making some judgemental comment about not appreciating life. This wouldn't even make sense from the perspective of teaching because anyone who actually understands this would know it isn't a matter of belief. The spiritual maturity of such individuals reminds me of the episode of South Park where Cartman was deputized. "You will respect my authoritay!" = Believe this idea I'm telling you.

The Internet
by myelaine in"but you, daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.".
"therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand), "then let those in judea flee to the mountains.....and pray that your flight may not be in the winter or on the sabbath.
for then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.. "the sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath.

I'm sure most have heard of the idea that the bible points to the internet as some wicked thing or other. Of course when we look at it for what it is, it's just a way of exchanging information. I wonder if the JWs or any other person/group who holds this belief also believe that given enough input you will believe that particular way, because of course even though their position is represented on the internet it is a minority. In other words, that what you believe is strictly content driven. But we know someone can ignore everything else and reinforce their existing beliefs, too, by "study" and such. So much for discernment though, it certainly sounds more like self hypnosis than anything.

Do You Still Show Respect To A Person Because Of His/Her Religion?
by minimus injust because a person is a jw, hindu, catholic, a satanist-----does it mean that you think it's ok to be insulting to them?
-
Markfromcali
Well I do take that into consideration when communicating with an individual, but on a forum like this if I was to talk about religion in general then I'm not going to avoid saying every single thing that a religious person may potentially find offensive, because then the point would never be made.
I think sometimes when you deal with this issue people have this attitude where when it comes to religion it is an area that is completely untouchable, but basically that is like the most insecure thing the ego has identified with - the first sign of questioning it then one might cry bloody murder. But if we always leave that alone then people would never see that there's a problem with their beliefs, and you can forget about any kind of reasoning.
Taken to an extreme, it is as if the individual's consciousness has disassociated or disfellowshipped the world from themselves, and the only way you can interact with them is through that limited belief structure. (no dealings with "worldlings" outside of service for example) Of course, what probably happens more often is the person just compartmentalizes religion, and knowing that other people may not agree they take the defensive position that people must not question anything in that compartment. But if a person really has a strong faith then it should be able to withstand some questioning, which is not necessarily done in an insulting way. Someone who is really interested in truth would not just hold their beliefs so closely, but to allow them to be tested and let it go if it proves to be untrue. Hopefully in that process one may see how attached they are to their beliefs, and that that attachment is not what being a "lover of truth" is about.
