It's not about religion.
There are religious people who are not in your face about it, and there are non-religious people who are still very religious in their frame of mind. I guess we call them fanatics, and there's everything in between. I'm sick of that frame of mind, but that could very well exist in someone who is sick of religion. All I can say about that is good luck, hopefully you'll see at some point that nothing has really changed. Like they say, "it sucks to be you."

some might see that after hundreds of years of argument and controversy no two people interpret the damn thing exactly the same, and so they have acquired the wisdom to abandon it.

What makes me happy, may make somebody else very sad. I realize that "we" can't live our lives around doing what "everybody else" wants, but we have to consider their feelings if we wish to keep the peace, so to speak. Babies can and do demand their own way---but as they mature, they discover that to "get along with others", they have to make compromises. Therein lies both the dilemma and the solution.
I would suggest the answer lies in the difference of being happy and making "me" happy. It's also the difference between happiness identied as an emotional state, or any state, and that same me identified as whatever personality structure etc - and not. Of course, when you are fully identified as a person the latter will make no sense, or just sound reasonable. Here it is appropriate to distinguish between a state of bliss and happiness. With happiness as only an emotional experience, there is really no comparison.
As far as things like family dynamics and such, there is no conflict if you want to see them "happy" too. But this of course couldn't be their idea of happiness, (or yours actually) which may be you being a JW or whatever, but it does take them into consideration with their freedom. (such as it is, however they use it) At the same time you don't give up yours, just as you don't do everything the baby demands.

was just reading the topic "its time to say goodbye" and it makes me wonder what is it that makes people who have been here for a long time leave?

the other day i got into a discussion of opinion and i have to ask you all for your opinion because i am so curious what people may think about the topic.. i am on a kick now, lately that i feel the urge to tell everyone how much i love them.
I hear what you're saying, I also don't think it's really something to compare. It's not that I don't think you can, you can with whatever perspective you want if you wanted to, but it's like your life is your own you know? To me it isn't about how you live, just that you live. The way you go through life doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the quality of experience.
