How old were you when you left?
by somebodylovesme ini only know a handful of witnesses, but i do know several ex-witnesses.
all of them left in their late teens, which (as i've read here) is pretty common.
i know there are a lot of people here who left later in life.

Are You Involved In Politics At All?
by minimus insince i've been raised a jw, i obviously never voted-----not even in school.
yet, i've always been very interested in politics (more than i should've been as a witness).

by Frantic insince most here are ex jw's, do you use/refer the new world translation of the jw's; or another christian bible, if any bible at all?

I don't use the NWT anymore, though I still have a copy in my library. Even when I was a JW I hated using the NWT. In fact I would use other translations for personal study and when I gave talks. At present for Bible reading and study I use the Revised English Bible and the New International Version.

Were you happy as a witness?
by JH inthe few years that i was an active witness, i can't say that i was very happy.
i really didn't mind missing a meeting.
i always felt that a meeting every 2 days for the rest of my life was a little exaggerated.

Why waste your time on a JW Singles site, Comrade Trotsky, when there are so many "Worldly" Singles sites with much better selections?

Does the Watchtower Share the Fatal Flaw of Tyrants?
by metatron inin time, any closed totalitarian system that suppresses dissent and free inquiry will fall apart.
when you remove.
the checks and balances of contrary opinion, the resulting organization will eventually ooze deception at every pore.. even the leadership will be unable to know what internal information is accurate or not.. .

Excellent post, Metatron.

Was Being A Jehovah's Witnesses A Bad Investment For You?
by minimus inyou could look at being a jw in a negative or somewhat positive way.
by that, i mean, for example---some say that had they not been witnesses, they are sure they'd be in jail today.
others might say, their whole lives were robbed of fun and money---simply because they filled their times as preachers and meeting attenders.

What Ways Did You Rebel Against The Elders & The "Truth"?
by minimus ini used to get a kick out of how some people used to push the elder's buttons.
sisters would wear a dress that was 1 inch above the knee just to get the brothers going.
or brothers would grow something a little longer than a mustache......what did you do to exert your independence??

When I was an elder I would use other Bible Translations in my talks. I would also quote non-Watch Tower sources and be mildly critical of the New World Translation. When in Field Service I used the New International Version Bible in place of the NWT. When serving on Judicial Committees I always tried to get the person off with a mild reproof instead of DF. This got me in trouble with the CO because he thought we should have given a harsher verdict. But all he could do is rant and rave because he couldn't overturn our decision.
