I read 1984 when I was in high school. It was very thought provoking. So was Gary Botting's The Orwellian World of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Hi Gumby,
Yes, I remember Harry Snow. He was our Circuit Servant 1965-1968. Then we got Jim Durell, who I think is now in the Sacramento area. Durell had the stop watch counting the time til 1975. At the end of the Service Meeting he would say for example: "Brothers its only 62 months, 12 days and 3 hours until 1975." Durell left us in 1970 so we missed seeing him eat crow.

Would You Buy Cigarettes For Your Friends?
by Englishman inwhen i go abroad, my smoking friends often ask me to bring cigarettes home with me.
they can be purchased for a fraction of the price in france and the savings on a few hundred cigarettes can be quite considerable.. i always refuse.
it makes me feel a bit priggish to do so, but i don't feel good about aiding someone to continue with a life threatening habit.. now i feel better!.

When I was in Russia I purchased several packs of Russian cigarettes for my co-workers who smoke. They smoked them, but the Russian tobacco was so bad that it almost made them give up smoking.

Hi Merry and Leolaia,
I don't know if this information will help but according to Bonnie's testimony at the Moyle trial she was married to William Heath on January 25, 1938 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Perhaps if someone can access the records in Las Vegas, the marriage license will have her date of birth and location of birth. Bonnie also testified that Mrs. Peal came to Bethel in 1938 and took her mother's place as housekeeper. At the time of the trial, May 1943, the mother was living in Texas. She left Beth Sarim sometime in 1938. But I don't know if she went directly to Texas or not.
The Moyle transcripts may have more information and if I get the time will research them further.

NOSTALGIA TIME !! Anyone remember the old "t.v. westerns" era?
by hubert ini was reading the post on "old radio" shows, and it brought to mind the old westerns that flooded the t.v.
stations back in the 50's.. i remember the first day we had a t.v.
installed, my sister and i were outside, and saw the "new" antenna on top of our roof, and ran in to watch the "new" black and white t.v., and enjoyed shows like milton berle, howdy doody, and others my memory forgot.

Some that were not mentioned:
Tales of Wells Fargo
Lash of the West
Zane Grey Theatre
Colt 45
Rin Tin Tin
Boots and Saddles
Broken Arrow
There were two others that might be considered westerns:
Sergent Preston, about the Canadian North West Mounted Police
The Alaskans
In the 1970s there was a series called the Bear Cats, which was about a couple of adventurers in the American Southwest during 1916. It starred Rod Taylor and Dennis Cole.
