It doesn't look like things have changed much in the last 20 years. The Watchtower is still like a religious form of Amway.

Anti-Apostate Leaflet for Convention
by slimboyfat ini am working on an anti-apostate leaflet to deflect attention from all those pesky apostates who will be swarming at the convention tomorrow.
keep on the alert - apostates about!
but if we are prepared for what they will say, we can deflect their wicked claims.

Interesting idea. Might even cause some JWs to question.

who escapes more often, those born into it or adult converts?
by kid-A inwhat strikes me on this board is the number of adult converts that have left the borg, either fading out or getting df'd.
from my experience (i was born into it, 2nd generation, left before getting baptized) most of the faders or escapees were also like.
me, born into it, never really accepted it and just bowed out at the first opportunity.

Back in 1984 when I left the JWs those raised in the religion like myself had a much higher drop out rate than converts. I think that is probably true today as converts made the decision to join on their own and weren't forced into the religion by their parents.

**MUST READ** AlanF's email to Knocking.org
by sf inthis is a must-read that, hopefully, will stay an "active topic" for all seekers and lurkers, by bumping it to the top as often as possible.
alan wrote it in randys {dogpatch} thread regarding knocking.org documentary and in reply to the email mr. engardio sent to barbara anderson.
however, it is so vital a read that it indeed needs its own thread:.

A couple of weeks ago when I was shopping at Home Depot I saw an old JW couple from my old congregation. They saw me but didn't put forth any effort to say hello. So I just ignored them. They didn't look very happy for people who are supposed to have "the truth."

Does anyone else flip off the Kingdom Hall when they drive by?
by Dustin inso it has become habit for me to go out of my way when driving to make sure i can give it the finger as i drive by.
i especially like to do this on the way to one of my favorite bars, especially on meeting nights just so people who knew me can see me do it.
i don't know why, but this has become a tradition of sorts.

Whenever I drive by a KH I just think how nice it is to be free of all that Watch Tower stuff.

New here
by ameliasmom ini have been "lurking" here for a while and just wanted to share with those that would, maybe, understand what i go through sometimes.
my dad's family were mostly all witnesses.
my most vivid memories of my grandfather as a child were of his recording all of the assemblies (or conventions, as i suppose they are called now) and listening to them over and over.

up until recently this secret of her year's long sexual affair with rutherford was kept by the family.

Without the Internet. Would you still have been a active believing dub??
by Samuel Thorsen in.
perhaps i would.. struggeling with doubts of course, but going to the meetings and turning in 2 or 3 hours on my report every month like i used to.... what about you guys?
-
Athanasius
No, because I left in 1984, years before I had Internet access. In that year I read Crisis of Conscience. After that I resigned as an elder and quietly left the Organization. By the way, does anyone remember the year that Al Gore invented the Internet?
