How long ago did this happen? I thought the Borg got rid of the District Overseers several years ago. Was Australia exempted, do they still have DOs?

Craziest meeting in last 10 years let's compare
by Chook inhi guys ,i'm new here 27 in 1 year out.. ive escaped 2 judicially by changing congs in rapid escape .i will tell my last dodged bullet.i swear these word as gospel honest.6 years ago in oz i'm in cong only about a year and tensions were running high due to a crazy old european bro ex elder who took no shit from the 10 apostles.i like him i don't know if it was the rebel in me or underdog syndrome but good guy 74years old he was.we just had this big sense the razor were getting sharpened.we arrive at thursday's night meeting my wife was at home so another big boring night i thought, was i wrong.the body has every mongrel breed.the three main characters were the italian dutch german, service committee.we start with song prayer ,the dutchy get up and says we are making adjustments to meeting tonight the arrogant bastard says only bible reading tonight then there agender.dutchy says.what is most amazing is these 10 idiots agreed to this changing of meeting program.
(these words are true)"we have a korah influence in cong and the 10 apostles have established an open judicial committee, the elders said there was evil in our mist .so to root out the evil if anyone has heard a bro say anything against any elders recently the are to report to the three stooges.well dutchy dims light and play the old prehistoric korah movie to the cong ,the bloody creation movie by russell was higher quality.
30 mins later german takes to the stage for the circus to begin.he repeats the dutch mantra ,well the publishers were looking at each other like it was north korea ,could have heard a pin drop,we are all thinking to ourselves we are all guilty of bitchin about the bastards .before meeting had finished halfway thru movie i rang my mate to tell him about "the burning "as the meeting became affectionately known.get home tell wife she don't believe me,within 2 days she believed.it was the talk of area.i had never rang bethel previously because i believed it was heaven and it didn't need my voice.next morning ring service desk in sydney and all i said i was concerned what took place at meeting last night .

The JW leadership must be in panic mode these days. I left the JWs over 30 years ago, but back then they just ignored the street preachers. Moreover, JWs have been so well indoctrinated against the Trinity that what this street preacher was saying would have no effect on them. So why have all the elders and mini servs come out to form a barricade and sing a JW chant to drown out the preacher's rants? That's overkill.
Though I could see the JW leaders going to this extreme if the street preacher was talking about child abuse in the JW religion.

JWs do Volunteer To Help Worldly Organizations Distribute Food to the Needy
by Athanasius insome months back i posted a topic asking if jws were now encouraged to volunteer their time for charitable organizations, as one of the volunteers who i work with was promoting jw.org to one of the spanish speaking workers.
because of that, i guessed that he was a jw.. https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5708790489939968/jws-now-encouraged-volunteer.
well the other day as he and i were folding and stacking tables after distributing food to the needy, i mentioned that after i retired i got bored and decided to do volunteer work.

Hi Smiddy,
I don't think this volunteer is an ex-JW, nor an inactive JW. He and his wife might be former missionaries or special pioneers, but since he is still promoting JWism, he is probably counting time for his publisher's record card. If he was an ex-JW it's doubtful that he would promote the new JW film to me, or show another volunteer how to access JW.org on his cell phone.
He does pick up food for several families, whether these families are JWs or not, I don't know. Plus he might be getting an allotment for him and his wife. I hope to be able to talk more with him at the next distribution. His story may be interesting.
Still it is nice to see JWs engaged in activities that actually help the community.

Well the other day as he and I were folding and stacking tables after distributing food to the needy, I mentioned that after I retired I got bored and decided to do volunteer work. Since this guy looked to be over 60 and so retired, I asked what had been his profession before he signed on to help with the food distribution. His reply was rather interesting: "I worked for the kingdom."
So I said: "So you are a retired minister?" He nodded in the affirmative. So I asked him which denomination. He said that he was a JW. I told him that I was Anglican, hoping to pave the way for a discussion. He asked if I was interested in the Bible. When I said that I was, he told me that the JWs have a new movie about Hezekiah and how God's angel slew 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in one night. I was about to reply that it probably had more to do with contaminated water than angelic interference. But our supervisor called for me to assist him in taking a count of the undistributed items.
Unfortunately when I finished with that project, the JW was involved in a discussion with another volunteer. I didn't hear much of what they were talking about, but the non-JW volunteer was saying something about his church and that collections were voluntary.
The JW doesn't know anything about my JW history, so I hope to talk more with him at the next food distribution and possibly do some un-witnessing.
I also suspect that he and his wife are not your ordinary congregational JWs. In fact I suspect that they may have been missionaries or possibly sacked Bethelites. Perhaps they will have an interesting story to tell.

Nobody at work knows what JWs believe
by Athanasius inrecently susie, one of my co-workers mentioned that her husband's family were all jws.
the family converted after susie's husband left home, so he never joined the jws, nor does he intend to.
anyway another co-worker asked her: "what do the jws believe?".

Recently Susie, one of my co-workers mentioned that her husband's family were all JWs. The family converted after Susie's husband left home, so he never joined the JWs, nor does he intend to. Anyway another co-worker asked her: "What do the JWs believe?"
To which Susie replied: "You'll have to ask them."
I didn't mention anything about my religious history as I was curious about what other people knew about the JW religion. After all JWs have been preaching for over 100 years. Moreover, there are about 30 congregations of JWs within our city and nearby communities and I often see them in public places with their literature trolleys.
There were 12 of us in the room, and my co-workers varied in age from 55-75. Most of us, including myself, attended college and have degrees. So it was surprising that after a few moments of silence only one of my co-workers spoke up and said: "They don't believe in celebrating birthdays."
Then someone changed the subject to something else.
So all the GB's bragging about God speeding up the preaching work is bunk. The JWs aren't getting their message across to the public. No doubt most of the hours turned in as preaching, were probably spent at Starbucks drinking coffee and socializing with other JWs.

Are the anointed really "lovely people"?
by purrpurr ini've personally never met any of those who claim to be anointed but the other jw's who have are always unanimous in their praise of how lovely and what wonderful people they are.
and i don't mean the gb i mean common or garden anointed.
i was told that when they speak about being in heaven that they almost "seem to glow".. is this right?

It's been over 30 years since I associated with the JWs, so I don't know what the present day JW "anointed are like. But as a teenager in the late 1950s and early 1960s I often worked in FS with three of the "anointed," two men and one woman. They were all over 75 and had been active JWs since their twenties. They were very humble and didn't think of themselves as anything special. In fact they would correct you if you said that they were "anointed." They would just say that they had heavenly hopes.
Sadly they all passed away in the 1970s, never knowing that they were really serving a book publishing company.

The New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures (1950) is selling for as much as $75.00 on Amazon. They also have a Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures (1985) for $28.99. Surprisingly some JW books and Bibles are worth money, especially if the number printed was relatively small and they are in excellent condition. So put them up for sale.
It doesn't hurt to get some monetary compensation for time spent in JW prison.

Are JWs now encouraged to volunteer?
by Athanasius inafter i retired i volunteered for several community service programs, including working with the local food bank.
every fourth thursday of each month i help out in distributing food to needy families at the local veterans building.
i've been helping out for five years now.

That may be their intent, Divergent. They speak Spanish and many of our clients are Hispanic and needy. So the JW "pie in the sky" theology would have great appeal to people who are financially disadvantaged.

Not sure if there are many JWs among our clients, as I haven't attended a local KH in over 30 years. But I did recognize an elderly JW getting food from the bank. He didn't say anything when handed him a sack of potatoes, not even thank you.

After I retired I volunteered for several community service programs, including working with the local food bank. Every fourth Thursday of each month I help out in distributing food to needy families at the local Veterans Building. I've been helping out for five years now. But six months ago an older couple joined our volunteer group. They were both Anglo, but fluent in Spanish, something very helpful as many of our clients are Hispanic with limited English.
It gets more interesting. After all the clients were served last Thursday and we were cleaning up, this man was having a lengthy conversation in Spanish with the food bank's truck driver. The guy was showing the driver his cell phone and explaining in Spanish how the driver could visit JW.org.
Because of some of the things this guy has said in the past, I suspected that he might be a JW, and this seemed to confirm it. Still it seems strange that a JW would waste several hours each month volunteering his time for a "Worldly Charity" and not out knocking on doors or standing by a literature trolley.
