Pilate asked the right question: "What is truth?"
If you can get a JW to acknowledge the dictionary meaning of truth, you win the case.
JW's definition of "truth" is as flawed as the rest of their doctrine.
jws are convinced they alone have the truth.
they are scripturally trained to prove to others why they are "in the truth".
from your vantage point, how can you show this is untrue??

luke 21:28 tells us that christians living during the time of the fulfillment of the prophecies showing that the end of this system was near were to hold their heads erect as their deliverance was near.
or at least this is the way the wts has always explained this scriptural passage.
last night, our visiting co mentioned in that this is no longer the way we interpret this scripture and that our past understanding was incorrect.
I m not aware of this change. If the understanding has changed, what is the new interpretation??
this is a genuine question on my part.
i understand the arguments for 587 vs 607 regarding the destruction of jerusalem.
what i want to know is, are there any organizations (religious or other) besides jws that believe 607?

Young People Ask: How Can I Stop Masturbating?
First, hold the article in your right hand...
mr michael jacksons trial starts in a couple of weeks.
predict the outcome here and i'll check back after the trial is over to see who amongst us really has the gift of prophecy.... guilty/not guilty...?
you decide.
Micheal Jackson will be found guilty on some counts, will not serve time in prison due to his mental state, and will be devestated financially when his estate is liquidated during subsequent civil suits.
As part of MJ's defense, his lawyers will paint him as a victim of child abuse during his surreal childhood as a pop star. His upbringing as a Jehovah's Witness will be brought to light as a fertile environment for his own sexual molestation as a boy.
MJ will end up stripped of his magic bubble though enabled by fans desperate to ignor the truth about this victim monster, an iconic one-man freakshow.
never thought you'd see those two things in one thread did you?
well, bear with me and see how i make the connection:.
jws don't celebrate birthdays for the following reasons:.
Yeah good point, but people like the Pharoah's baker and John the Baptist actually died as a part of birthday celebrations...
Comments of the non sequitur class.

my wife knows i have many douts about the wts because of things that have happened that have made me question certain teachings.i have been inactive for 6 yrs now and i have no desire to ever become active again.i love my wife very much(she is presently inactive also) and i wish she would see my point of view or at least look into the society's past but she's a die-hard jw,hanging on no matter what they do or say.. anyways,we had a chat last week and she told me to write down all the questions i have and then she'll do everything to get me the answers.i'm assuming she'll give the question list to an elder she believes she can trust and he'll come up with logical answers to all my questions, then i'll humbly return to all my meetings and progress spiritually.. i'm asking everyone's help to draw up a good list even though i am not very confident of getting any real, logical or intelligent answers to all of them.i understand if the elders are stumbled by these questions, they might take the easy route-label me an apostate and try to df me.if that's the case then i'll stand my ground and hopefully my wife will see that nobody really wants to answer my questions.. a co once tried to answer my questions about 607 vs 587.i told my wife when he runs out of real proof and answers he'll tell me to wait on jehovah.that's exactly what happened!!!!!.
thank you everyone for your help on this one.
Beware of documenting your doubts. Remember the org's mode. During elder instruction, critical information is passed down verbally, it is up to the elder to take notes.
I recommend verbally offering up one "doubt," and let your wife research that. Who knows, maybe she will come up with the same conclusion as you. I find that when a JW is told they are wrong about their faith, they will automatically defend their belief often with violent emotions, no matter how weak the point. Put the responsibility on your wife to prove it to you, instead of disproving you. There is a difference.
JWs "welcome" doubts of faith as long as it is "honest" and "with the right motive". Check out this statement from the 15 Feb 2005 Watchtower:
"Prove to yourself the good and acceptable will of God." Just how can we achieve that?...Jehovah's spirit can help us to comprehend even difficult subjects. We should pray for God's help when we are having problems understanding something. Jehovah wants us to understand his Word, believe it, and obey it. He welcomes honest questions asked with the right motive.
Key phrase: "Honest Questions", translation: No leading questions about issues that your learned from JWD.
Key phrase: "Right Motive", translation: No apostate agenda, ready to accept any answer that comes from WTS including "wait on J."
Obviously, you do not qualify for either of these in the WTS sense. But in the real non-cult sense you do. Be sincere and transparent to the fact that you want to have an honest discussion with your wife. Don't let the WTS be the wedge.
I agree that the 607 question is a good one because it is a lynch pin doctrine, it will require researching outside of WTS pubs, and the WTS is plainly wrong.
Remember, if she has to prove it to you and she fails, who can she blame? Do not take the offensive.
i will defer the details of this gem to blondie when she sinks her teeth into the wt study articles scheduled for march 21-april 3. until then sample this:.

" (pg 12-16) .
I will defer the details of this gem to Blondie when she sinks her teeth into the WT study articles scheduled for March 21-April 3. Until then sample this:
Watchtower 15 Feb 2005 "Christians - Be Proud of Who You Are!" (pg 12-16)
For genuine Christians, however, the pervasive spirit of halfheartedness and lack of zeal presents a danger. We cannot afford to become nonchalant about our faith and lose our zeal for serving God and for Bible truth. (paragraph 2)
A young man who was raised as a Christian recalled that he for a while had experienced a state of spiritual weakness: "At times, I felt I didn't know why I was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. I had been around the truth since infancy. Sometimes I felt that this was just another mainstream, accepted religion." ... Some Christains may occasionally go through periods of self-doubt and of a reassessment of their values and goals. (paragraph 6)
A Christian, in testing whether he is in the faith, must determine whether his words and deeds harmonize with his profession of faith. However, if misdirected, self-examination that prompts us to look for our "identity" or to search for answers outside our relationship with Jehovah or the Christian congregation will prove to be pointless and can be spiritually fatal. (paragraph 7)
Young people who have been raised as Jehovah's Witnesses do well to examine whether their Christian identity is becoming stronger based on a personal relationship with God. They cannot depend merely on the faith of their parents...Obviously, a halfhearted continuation of family tradition cannot sustain an intimate, long-term relationship with Jehovah. (paragraph 16)
The following article: "Safeguarding Our Christian Identity" (pg 17-22)
"Though I was attending Christian meetings," admitted on such youth, "I had no clear spiritual goals and, frankly, no crystallized desire to serve Jehovah." (paragraph 2)
If we begin to have disturbing questions about our Christian identity, it is time to examine closely the quality and depth of this relationship...Why is such an examination vital? Because we ourselves cannot be reliable assessors of our own deepest motives and innermost inclinations. (paragraph 7)
Our sense of identity as servants of Jehovah can weaken if it is not solidly based on knowledge of the Scriptures...Young Christians who belong to God-fearing families must realize they cannot live off the faith of their parents. (paragraph 9)
(paragraph 10)
Our spiritual heritage can also infuse in us a deep sense of spiritual security that can be enjoyed only within Jehovah's organization. Reviewing remarkable events from the modern-day history of Jehovah's organization can impress upon us that no person or thing can eradicate Jehovah's people from the earth. (paragraph 16)
Take a moment to contemplate the many benefits and advantages we enjoy because we are true Christians. We have the privilege of being personally recognized by Jehovah...We can be viewed by God as his friends. Our lives are adorned by a clear sense of purpose, by deep meaning, and by wholesome, productive goals. And we have been given the hope of an eternal future. (paragraph 19)
I beg you Blondie, don't abbreviate your "Comments" on these articles. This is classic cult method for attrition. Yet more telling, the WT is opening acknowledging negative attitudes within the ranks. And this catch-phrase: "live off the faith of their parents." (Who does that anyway?)
"Take a moment to contemplate" exactly how desperately manipulating these articles are.
.
seriously...i mean if we happened to know someone who is having a bible study, know a witness who is having serious doubts, ect., we could print out some really good information and (anonymously) put it in their mailboxes!!
or something like that.. any ideas??.
The info is good but watch out for mailboxes. In the US, adding or removing anything out of someone else's mailbox is a federal offence.
Try leaving a tract in the door. (Still remember how to fold them? )
