So Jw's are allowed to celebrate baby showers, but not birthdays?? huh??
by nolongerconfused inperhaps, one of the most arrogant and contradicting behaviors of jdubs.... what is the difference between celebrating a baby shower and a birthday?...they both have ancient origins, from pagan people, including egyptians and the greek.... have you guys noticed any other hypocrite celebrations/behaviors jdubs engage in?.

Seems to me that wedding anniversaries are right in the same catagory! I know some folks here in Seattle that go all out for anniversary parties.
Seems to me you are bringing too much attention to that couple but WTF do I know?

Shunning for inactive ones?
by frogonmytoe ini visited my sister in a small town in the midst of the country, the town has a population of 3,000 and there's about 70 in the cong.
anyway, there was a local needs talk a few months ago about associating with family members who didn't live under your roof and no longer went to meetings.
one family of an elder dad and three sons (one an elder too, the others have stopped going) and a daughter (still going but married a 'worldly') are quite prominent and one half of a typical congregational feud.

Once again it depends on who you are in the JW's if you get in trouble associating with "inactive" JW's. My uber elder cousin in Lynnwood WA does all sorts of things with his inactive sister (inactive for 35+ years) and her husband who is a deacon in his Anglican church!!! I really don't know how elder cousin justifies it but he does. Perhaps he doesn't give all the details to the other elders when he goes on these excursions with his sister. But he's so self righteous I don't understand how he can justify it but he does.

Yes I have the same thing going on with my 83 Yr Old Uber Pioneer mother. (I've been df'd for over 35 years). She
tells me that it's all my fault that I'm being shunned that she "had nothing to do with it" etc. even though I've pointed out
that it's her organization and following along like an zombie. I swear she likes my nonJW
husband so much better than me because he's not a witness. Oh and she doesn't care that I might be homeless
in my old age since she's giving all her money to the WTBTS and tells me things like "well you aren't going to live
very long anyway" (since Armaggedon is "right around the corner"). What mother would say that to their
daughter? A JW that's who! Nice~

So what was said at the latest DC about disfellowshipped people and how to treat them? I've been DF'd for 35+ years and of course it's been very difficult. My mother is a diehard JW and is 83 years old, still pioneering etc. I called her yesterday since I had been out of town and wanted to check in with her and she was very distant and almost secretive about her whereabouts all weekend since she had been at the DC. What's the latest party line on how to treat DF'd people? Harsher than ever? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Flashback to the sixties Seatle
by Tater-T inso while making a you tube video of my dad today, i came across this in a dvd of home movies from way back, i didn't even know about it... originally shot on super 8 film, shot off screen with camcorder in 1992, with open mic, transfered to dvd in 2010 .. made to you tube in 2013.... check out the food service, without paper plates no less .. it's only a couple minutes on convention then, a little seatle conventions were a family vacation when we were growing up ... .

Yes I remember the convention at Sick's Seattle Stadium. then it was Vancouver BC for a couple conventions (yes flush BM;s only!) and then finally Puyallup fairgrounds. What wasted weeks!

Jehovahs Witnesses and the Curse of Music.
by donny injehovahs witnesses and the curse of music.. .
i was inspired to write this after listening to a recent podcast of the thinking atheist by seth andrews.
as many of you know, seth was a devout christian who not only loved contemporary christian music but was one of the hosts of a popular morning show on kxoj in tulsa, oklahoma in the 1990s.

Well once again with the JW's it depends on who you are if you get in trouble for listening to the "wrong" kind of music. Here in Seattle I currently see the 30 something witnesses going to rock concerts of all sorts all the time. Of course this group is one of the "cool groups" so either they just fly under the radar or the elders just seem to ignore their attendance to all these events! I don't get it! They always seem to have time for these type of events but I don't think going out in service is ever a priority! HA!
Before I made my escape at 19 (I'm 56 now) all the music I listened to was scrutinized by my very devout male cousin (uber witness now) but he could get away with listening to Jefferson Airplane, Beatles, Led Zep, and various others. My mother would complain about what a waste of money it was to buy that "trash music" when I deviated from what my cousin approved of! I was able to fool her with the Eagles Albums that I bought saying it was "country rock" instead of rock and roll and somehow that was better! (Of course she never listened to them, just made assumptions!)
I was so glad to be able to choose my own music once I left without the third degree on what I wasted my money on this week! Stupid! Oh classical music was okay of course!!

Reports from JW's regarding the summer convention
by Lynnie inso, we're in the final countdown with the convention just over a month away.
i've talked to a few folks that have already attended it on the east coast and west coast and keep hearing that its the most up-building program they've ever been to.
seems the message is clear that we need to stop being so hard on ourselves and take time to appreciate the efforts we have put in and know that we are deeply loved.

Seems the message is clear that we need to stop being so hard on ourselves and take time to appreciate the efforts we have put in and KNOW that we are deeply loved. And, we are all here for each other, which, in any other organization would sound utopian or cliche, but in this one, is perfect truth. Never could have dreamed I would be this excited to sit still for 3 days; but, if the rumors are true, this is gonna be goooooood!
Unbelievable! such good brain washing they are doing!
