i came across this site, and while still my upbringing says i should stay away from such site, i had to join.
a bit of a background about me.
i'm 31, my parents became witnesses when i was born so they could give me the best upbringing they felt possible.
Welcome Greyeyes, yours is a different situation than most! I read on, expecting that your GF was asking you about JW's and ready to show you the untruths herself. I was shocked in your story to see that she has been "hypnotized"...(a'la David Letterman's old joke). At any rate, I hope you are able to lead her out of this, but if not, I hope that you are able to continue the healing that you have found. Stick around, I think you'll like this place.

Welcome, Sabrina! It never ceases to amaze me that the ones who 'escape' the JW cult seem like normal people, in spite of their upbringing.
I am thrilled to welcome you here...and I know you will find healing and help. Esp in dealing with your mom's relationship with your little boy; others have been there and can share with you. You are the one who can control what he learns, and I think you will get the strength you need to protect him from others who have the same situations.

income derived for 2003 = 20million in the uk alone...if this isnt a business i dont know what is... .
ibsa charged wtbts = 4million for accomodation and 'other facilities' for volunteers...are we to assume this is for the bethelites.....it doesnt cost 4million to house the volunteers and feed them does it??
the wtbts paid close to 0.75 million in management and administration....so that means that the management of the company earn close to 3/4million between them????
Isn't most of this money used to support those wonderful hospitals and orphanages and soup kitchens sponsored by the WTS?

I have a friend who attended w. her JW boyfriend; they liked it, I haven't heard from her for awhile so don't know what they did after that. She was looking for alternatives to the KH for him. I would agree with others, check out who is hosting it in your area. I wouldn't think a JW would be inclined to attend a Pentecostal sponsored, and probably not a Catholic sponsored ALPHA. Perhaps a middle of the road conservative Protestant, like Methodist, Lutheran, etc.
i work for a rather large financial institution in nyc.
i run a large profit center and manage over 100 people.
on of my best workers is a dub doing a slow but progressive fade.

firt of all, a bit of background.
i'm 26 years old, am a math major/english minor senior on a full scholarhip in college, was raised as one of jehovah's witnesses, babtized when i was 18, left at ~ 22/23, am now agnostic/deist/confused.
i was raised on a farm in a witness family.
John Doe, Welcome. Your story was beyond belief, how much can be put on a young person blows my mind. You deserve praise for getting to the point where you are. And I am pleased to know you are seeing a psychiatrist. Taking steps like that toward healing is such an important part of getting on with life, after experiences such as you went through.
It's late and I'm tired, too. So I will say, Take care; stay with your therapist; the med will kick in and hopefully help you. If you are able to ease up some on the load you are carrying, please do. I know there is a lot of negativity on this board, but people have been damaged in many different ways. You can find healing here if you have time to stay around.

she has recently not been attending meeting and not reading her watchtower.
Hi and Welcome. I know how you feel about wanting to help your friend SO badly. You are not alone. Realize that many here have come to accept that the JW brainwashed mind is a tough nut to crack, as someone once told me years ago. They were so right. However, I do believe in Hope, and I believe there is a strength that comes from the Holy Spirit to guide those of us who are open to accepting that guidance. That is IMO. Pray for strength, go slowly with your friend.
Have you asked her just what it was about the Memorial that drew her back? Or just what drew her out in the first place? Do you understand what is "celebrated" at the Memorial yourself? Feel free to email me if you want to discuss.

If she comes back, I'd like to ask her about the March 8 AWAKE, on the back cover it has an "invitation" to the Most significant Meeting of the Year. The scriptures quoted, Mark 14:22-24 say...take and eat, take and drink. Now, I know they do not all partake, but instead pass the b & w around.
Any good questions I can have ready for her would be appreciated. I want to use this article only, not get into other stuff. It also refers to John 3:16...Whosoever believes in Him shall have eternal life. Well, MY Bible indicates this to be Jesus...and it says right there that believing in Jesus will give us Eternal Life. I didn't think that was a JW teaching, I'm confused???
i've been reading the forums for a while now, as a guest, and have decided that i need a counterbalance to the indoctrination i am recieving.

i was raised pagan, hearing the witnesses were a cult like morminism and islam.
Welcome! I hope you spend time and read around on this site. And that you learn of the real harm done to so many by the JW teachings. You have an open mind, but believe me, it will be shut if you continue to listen to their indoctrination. That happened to a realtive of mine who told me she could NEVER follow them....her feet are now firmly planted. Believe me, they can twist and hit you hard. If you love your husband, you will shut the door to them when they come next time.
