After I da'd myself I put my pic up immediately and had it up until recently. I only took it down because I have been getting weird e-mails lately (can you say stalker). My new avatar is representative of "LOVE".

Who's picketing a convention this year?
by Junction-Guy ini will be, i just cant decide where.
im trying to tie it all into my vacation, but i might just have to drive a ways for a 1 day picket within my region.
some locations i have considered are amarillo tx, cleveland oh, duluth ga, biloxi ms, columbia sc, huntsville al, little rock ar, and possibly johnson city tn, but kinda doubtful there.

I don't think picketing in itself is a problem. In fact, I believe it is one very good way to reach people about the "real truth". People need to be educated about Jehovah's Witnesses especially since the Watchtower has there own PR dept. these days and use it as much as possible. Still, most people I have ever talked to do realize JW's are a strange group. The thing I would be most concerned with is how to go about it. What the signs say and how the picketers act. I have talked with J-G about this before and personally I believe he goes about this in a very good manner. He doesn't get all crazy and yelling like some I have seen which is a turn-off to many. Keep up the good work Dave and Danny. We can't all just sit here and complain on these boards forever, we need to actually do something. Whatever niche we can fill we should fill. Besides placards i have thought handing out some information from the BRCI would be helpful in exposing the JW's. From the book "Releasing the Bonds" by Steven Hassan here's a few more ideas using the mantra "Think globally, act locally" :
1. Contact local missing persons bureau.
2. Contact the government
-consumer bureau
-investigation of cult lobbies
-public disclosure of past mind control research
-more funding for "open" mind control research in the future
-public awareness campaigns
3. Mental Health Professionals
-basic research into mind control
-better diagnosis and treatment of patients with cult histories
-more holistic treatment of patients with cult histories
-training in the strategic interaction approach
4. Religious Institutions and Clergy
-preventitive education and counseling
-interfaith declaration for ethical proselytizing
5. Legal Professionals
-hold cults legally accountable for their actions
-new legal measures and procedures
-citizen involvement in the legal system
-legal defense fund
6. The Media
-more in-depth coverage of the cult mind control phenomenon
Seems to me people have already laid a lot of groundwork, now we just need to get involved.

It is finished, or is it just beginning?
by IP_SEC inwell i am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.
i had fully intentioned to disassociate myself from the platform today, but i decided that if i wanted a chance to save my marriage that i'd better tell my wife.
she immediately went to to one of the elders.

Congratulations on new beginnings and a cleared heart!
He just left, asking all of the questions you'd expect. 'Where will you go'? Telling me I'm full of myself. Asking why I didn't just come to him earlier when he could help. He refused to listen to a word.
and....
The elder was the one I was closest to. He was heart broken that I did not come to him. He was right in calling me a hypocrite for going so long in something I don't believe in.
Your' so called friend only says you are full of yourself because you don't agree with him and the society. You could make the same argument about them. It's all relative. No doubt you have voiced to some extent concerns you have had however they really don't want a real discussion with you on any of it only for you to except what they say. He was "heart broken" was he? So, it's about HIM then is it? Sounds selfish and blind to me. YOU are a hypocrite? For trying to give them the time to straighten out there religion and for wanting to keep your' marriage in tact? If you had voiced every concern to them they would have wore you down or kicked you out themselves. They simply don't and won't understand. Therefore it doesn't matter. You did what you had to do. You were a man about it. Be proud and in peace. I wish you best of luck now in dealing with your' wife first of all. I sure hope it goes well for you. I personally applaud you for your' honest stand for truth!!!

I was in this same situation. Pretty sucky eh? I remember not hardly being able to talk to therapists or really anyone. Takes time, now people have a hard time getting me to shut up...lol. The elders definitely won't help though, in fact they add to the abuse. You are right not to care about the woman's marriage. That's her problem. If you want the elders to know about it I suggest either writing a letter to them and keeping a copy or having the therapist help you. PM me anytime. Good luck!

Do you have dreams that you're still in the org.?
by lucky init's weird.
i haven't been to a meeting in eight years, but at least once a month, i have a dream that i'm at a meeting or out in service or at an assembly or in some other witness-related situation.
it's like those school dreams where you dream you have a calculus final that morning and you haven't been to class all semester.

I didn't get the sense Ray Franz was bitter at all. Perhaps he was a bit upset about all this but aren't we all. He came across very fair to me in the two books I have read of his. Plus, at the time I was having my final elders meeting I was e-mailing with Franz. He was very helpful and didn't seem bitter or try to get me feeling bitter at all.
