It was no problem at all for them to DF me for the decisions I made while I was drunk and loaded. They never once suggested I get some professional help. I was just a throwaway, promiscuous, drunk teenager to them.
I think overall though, in the congregation, physical and sexual abuse was a much bigger problem.

That's an excellent point! Too bad many in Malawi are not bothered at all because "the dead are concious of nothing at all."
Any Dub who could get through the 1995 "new light" that essentially erased "Our Creator's PROMISE" would have no problem ignoring the UN evidence. (or vice-versa -- I'm not sure which came first.)

Since the JW's supposedly live as the early Christians why don't they live as a community and put all their money, food and belonging together for equal sharing? We know that the
Holy Spiritholy spirit killed Ananias for withholding a bit from the community so why do we see JW's in California driving SUV's and living in seaside mansions, while other JW's live in hut with no running water? -

according to the information i've found online the last posting day for standard parcels is dec 11th for usa and december 15th for the uk/europe, so you should all have plenty of time to select and send a gift, although sending sooner rather than later is prefered.
can everyone taking part post on this thread what things they like, what their interests are etc so that the person who is buying a gift for you has some idea what to get you.

Has anyone sucessfully talked a JW into quiting?
by JustTickledPink inmy mother doesn't speak to me although she will exchange emails with me.
we actually don't communicate much, but recently i sent her a few emails detailing things are wrong with the watchtower society.
her responses are laughable... but i am still printing out articles and mailing them to her about the un scandle, she of course doesn't believe it.. but has anyone sucessfully made any headway talking to a dyed in the wool jw and made any progress?

Wow Pink - Three of us have the same mom!
The only 2 risks I see in continuing to pusue it are:
1. Your mom opens her eyes to the real truth and can't handle that she's wasted 40 years of her life and destroyed family relationships, etc and either has a mental breakdown or kills herself.
2. She decides you are an APOSTATE and shuns you totally for the rest of your life.
That's what I see as my problem when addressing my mom. I've gotten a couple of good points in but usually her defenses come up and I get a long JW rant. And I HATE those!!
I thought about telling my mom not to ever, under any circumstance, read CoC. Then maybe she would read it just to prove me wrong. But then if she read it - - I'd be back to problem #1 Above. ((sigh)). So what's a girl to do??

Hi Lonelymom - Welcome to JWD. Sorry you are hear on such sad terms. I can't imagine how hard it would be to discover that my daughter was a cultmember and that there was nothing I could do to change it. I would recommend reading a lot of JW information. Steven Hassan is a cult counselor and has written 2 excellent books on the subject. In Releasing the Bonds he says that as long as they are alive - its not too late. My mom joined when I was about 1or 2 years old and, even though no one else in our family was JW, I was raised strictly JW. From that point of view I would hope that you have as much of a relationship with your grandkids as your daughter will allow. Your grandkids need at least 1 sane person in their life - so that when they need to talk they know you will keep their confidence. Your grandkids will also need someone to push for a court order should they ever need a blood transfusion.
I think someone else also gave you good advice to not argue against the JW doctrine. She has been thouroughly indoctrinated to expect that from you. You might be able to get away with some innocent sounding questions by pretending to be interested. Maybe you could ask her how many religions she researched before joining this one. I doubt if she researched any. She was probably just slowly brainwashed by her new JW family.
