I sort of started drifting when I moved out when I was 18 I still believed everything and didn't really stop going to meetings until I was probably around 21 years old. I just decided myself that it wasn't for me.. and that the witnessess where just confused as a whole. However... now I am very very angry. My parents are baptized but none of my other 5 siblings are (i'm the oldest) Just in the last year 3 of my siblings have a renewed sense of faith and are starting studies and what not (becuase of hall and parental influence) Since that time I started doing some research and found this site. Now I realize I was in a mind control cult.. and my family is still very much stuck in it. That makes me very angry and unsure how to deal with it...I am still very much involved with my family. So I guess just angry and wanting to find a way to rescue my family.

How did you feel when you learned it was all a lie?
by what_Truth? inbit of background.
i grew up as a jw i left the church when i was 14 because a ministerial servant who was conducting a one on one baptism study with me said that i couldn't ballance my dreams of being a professional singer with the so called "truth".
i stopped the study and told my mom i no longer wanted to be a witness.

reason on this....
by myelaine ini just wanted to share something with you that i believe is very important.
2 tim 3:16 states: all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of god may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.
now we are told that in every thing we do, every day of our lives we can turn to gods word to help us, to equip us, to feed us for every good work.

I belive John was referring to Jesus being "the word". Not just a word of God.
1:1 - [In Context|Original Greek]
- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Hello Everyone . . .(Questions)
by Frobrisher inthis is my first post here, though i have been browsing these forums over the last week for more than a few hours.
in the interest of full discloser, well as much as anyone would on a public forum, i?ll tell you about me.
i was raised as a witness, and have no real horror stories to tell.

I would have to say my thoughts on God and the Bible are very similar to what Balsams are. While I have been away from the JW's for about 3 years I have really opened up my thought process about it all... expanded my horizions in a way.
I personally think the Bible has some nice things in it.. and some information that is useful, particular some of the examples in the new testament. The WTS prefers to use the old testament examples of a vindicitive angry god to keep the sheep afraid though.
Life is alot easier when you aren't afraid of god. When you know that god is going to love you no matter what happens and that salvation is not for only a select few... it really made me appreciate life even more.

Well there have been many replys to this post alot of them good so i'm going to add my two cents.
One thing that really pisses me off is the fact that people think its a choice.
I have a really good friend who is a Witness.... she was raised a witness since birth and almost 100% of her friends and family are witnesses. We have had countless talks about the witnesses and she has many doubts about them. She doesn't think and organization should tell you what you can and can't read and look at etc... Anyways my point is that becuase EVERYONE she knows in life is a witness she can't break away from it. She would have to give up all of what she knows... which is just way to hard for some people to do.
Her friends and family... (all baptized JW's) would want to have nothing to do with someone who leaves the "truth"
I really really dislike that about the witnesses...
Ok now on to my second point...
I personally think that unconditional love and god are exactly the same and can be interchanged.
Teaching children that god can have his feelings hurt.. and not love you anymore is a terrible thing. God is not a vindictive parent.
I'll answer your questions too
Who here thinks they are Jehovah God?
I think we are all God goding.. All parts of god expierencing itself.. I think you are god just as I amWho here thinks they are Jesus Christ?
Not I... the JCannon response was funny though..
Who here thinks they are of the anointed?
I think the whole annointed thing is blarneyWho here thinks they are going to heaven, but are not necessarily anointed?
I'm not to sure personally what happens after death but I'm pretty sure god has it taken care of. What I belive about doesn't matter to much in the grand scheme of things.
And as a side note.. the reason I personally have resentment and a little hostility with the JWs is that my sister was molested and nothing was done about it. She was too much of an emotional wreck to report it to anyone and The Elders just decided to slip it under the rug. And to top it off... her friends house where it happened at, her parents decided she was bad association afterwards.
Sorry for Rant

Politics: Just the facts
by desib77 inis there anywhere i can get just the facts about current issues and where both presidential candidates stand on each?.
it seems like everywhere i look there is someone or something trying to sway me one way or the other.
my husband is a head strong republican while others i know are active democrats.
-
Grog
I can't really tell you where to get your facts... most organizations are going to skew you one way or the other.
Usually the canditates web site will give you where that particular canidate stands on an issue.
I'm sure if you have a particular question the readers on the boards would be happy to give some input... Just take everything with a grain of salt.
A Politics board would be cool...
Just don't get your facts from fox news.

In the aftermath of our shattered faith, for those who also wonder.....
by Frannie Banannie init's been over 12 yrs since my df'ing.
yes, i forced 'em to do it for what i know now were pointless reasons....but mainly, at the time, i thought it was because the heirarchy of the wts doesn't measure up to scriptural standards....i wasn't wrong for they are very judgmental hate-mongers, manipulative and overbearing....but i've come to learn so much more..... .
after years of traumatic disillusionment, i've begun to wonder if there really is a god/goddess, etc....or is this a state of mind/belief system that mankind has created to explain the inexplicable, answer the unanswerable, to put a spiritual bandaid on the tortured in mind, body and/or spirit.....and yet, tho our bodies wear out eventually, we are wonderfully "made"....and so many things here on earth are sympatico with our human existence and temperament.....yet....at the same time, we have adverse reactions to many things, too, whether vegetable, animal, mineral or even spiritual.....is this all only a contrivance of our imaginings, the result of our teachings among ourselves?.

Well Frannie what originally got me out of the borg was reading a book by an author named Neil Donald Walsch
Its a completely different god than the god that I was used to from my witness upbringing.
At first I completely rejected the idea but after reading for awhile it really moved me.
Since then I've read all of his book and even went on a cruise last year and got to meet him which was a great expierence.
It changed my attitude on how to deal with my family who is still very witness. Instead of countering with how full of BS the witnesses where and arguing with anger I changed my attitude to an unconditional love approach.
Anyways.. its definitly worth checking out if you are searching. I love how it doesn't tell you that what it says is the "truth"
I suppose its rather new age in a spiritual sense which isn't for everyone but was totally refreshing to me after the JW teaching I had.
Check it out
Peace,

Banned From the Bible
by Sweetp0985 ini may be late in seeing this special on the history channel, but did anyone else see this show.
it was about books being banned from the bible that further explains events that may or may not have happened the way it is written in the bible.
this show peaked my curiousity and i went to the library and found the book who wrote the bible?

I had a friend who wanted me to read "who wrote the bible" when I was a witness still...
I bet I would have come out of the borg sooner if I had read it.
Tomorrows God by Neil Donald Walsch is a great book.
His conversations with God series was the catalysist in me waking up.
