i created a post like this awhile back but i thought i would start with a fresh one for 2005. i'm still somewhat of a newb to the metal world but i'm a more familiar with the music now than i was a year or two ago.. first off i love almost everything metallica does, i even liked most of the songs from st anger.
i really dig songs with crushing riffs and hard hitting melodies, but what i'm discovering is that a lot of bands love throwing occult themes and references into their music.
i'm not quite that hardcore just yet, in fact i bought a few albums without realizing some of the content.
Roots by Sepultura, "tribal metal" from Brazil. Or the classic Vulgar Display of Power by Pantera. Both are must haves.
Before you throw out your Sabbath discs, really look at the lyrics. Their true meaning is often surprising(ex. Children of the Grave).

so why have witnesses never heard of 'doctrine', yet apostates seem to promote it as the last word on witness standards of honesty, integrity and decency?

Me, many times. My Dad talked about it often. Just because it isn't openly discussed in the publications, doesn't make it any less real.
Yes, in general JW's are honest, law abiding people. But when it comes to "The Truth" itself, they have an 'end justifies the means' mentality and often act as if they are above the law(remember the Tacoma District Convention parking tickets?). I was reminded of this attitude a while back when I brought up the UN/NGO membership with my Dad. I asked him, "Wasn't the Society's being a member of the UN, extremely hypocritical considering the scorn they've heaped upon them over the years?"
"No". He didn't see any conflict at all. As long as the Society got what they wanted/needed out of it, nothing else really mattered. Case closed.
Although they may not have heard the term "Spiritual Warfare" before, any current/former Witness knows this concept: Protect the Organization and it's interests from outsiders by any means necessary.

If you were brought up as a Christian with a belief in God and the Bible, then you know the answers to this issue.
Yeah, and the answer is: "God Hates Fags!".
But what does God Love? Genocide(big favorite of his), telling faithful servants to kill their only son just to see if they'll do it, slavery, two daughters getting their father drunk so that he'll have intercourse with them, polygamy(sometimes), and burnt offerings(mmmm......burnt).
But homosexuality like. totally grosses him out! It so goes against nature!

i studied as much about different religions as i could and read every book available to me.

Slavery, polygamy, animal sacrifice, human sacrifice, incest, genocide, "ethnic cleansing". All things that are against current biblical principles, right?
Yet all are approved of in the bible at one point or more. If you are not harming another person, don't take too seriously the claims that your lifestyle is "against biblical principles".

normally i never read novels, but this one is a really good read, hard to put down.
it's called in the truth, and it's about a brother and sister who rebel against the harshness of their witness upbringing and set out in the world to find the meaning of life and to rejoin their father, who works in a marine reserve in florida along with an indian sidekick.
"Unassigned Territory" by Kem Nunn, is a great book based loosely on the Witnesses(they are in "The Way", not "The Truth"). It has all the makings of a great novel; fundamentalist religion, extraterrestrials, love, motorcycle gangs, and murder.
