  Help! Is The Memorial Tonight??

  you'd think i'd know, but is the memorial tonight?

  my son (he's 12) usually goes with my jw mom on the weekend, but she asked to get him today since he's out of school on easter break.

  grr, i am thinking now she's doing this for the memorial.

  The memorial is tonight and your mother is pulling a fast one. If you let your son go, let him go visit her with the worst ripped up clothes you can find.

  My story.....

  i was born into the "truth", so it is pretty much to only life i have known.

  i have been studying the bible seriously since my teens, about 15+ years.

  then it hit me about 6 months ago, i?m not really studying the bible, but rather the wt publications.

  Welcome Jula and I know you will find much support here as you fade.

  Many of us here have faded or are still in the process of doing so.

  I am an ex elder and have faded over the past 3 to 6 years of years.

  My first suggestion to anyone who has questions about their JW faith is to buy and read Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz, the ex governing body member. This book will enlighten you and open your mind to things you never thought or knew about the Watchtower society.

  Has The CIA Infiltrated The Upper Echelon Of The Watchtower Organization??

  the watchtowers call to all congregations for accountants and lawyers especially those familiar with tax laws makes me seriously think they may be in hot water.

  since the watchtower organization has been very vocal especially in the past about its anti-government stanse and its df'ing of persons that join the military,or other government jobs, i'm willing to speculate that the united state counter intellignece agency has seen the need to sneak some of its agents inside the wt, for internal security purposes.

  also i'm sure that the internal revenue has been keeping a close eye on the gb,, the reason being that they are a huge cash cow, and a dishonest coniving mind control cult.

  There is an elderly JW that I thought the world of. He was retired from a large, now-defunct airline. He was living in a Virginia suburb of Washington D.C. when still working and told me about a return visit he had there for awhile.

  He said the the gentleman he visited told him after a few visits that he worked for a govt. agency and he knew quite a lot about JW's. This kind of floored the "brother".

  He told the "brother" that he believed the JW's are very sincere about their beliefs and especially neutrality since JW's are the only religion they could not recruit "spies"(in the "brother's" words) to use their religious status as foreign missionaries and spy on what is going on in other countries.

  True??? I don't know, but this older "brother" is very credible and down to earth as far as I'm concerned.

  Memorial and caller ID

  Well, it happened. I was wondering if it would! I had a voice mail message today inviting me to the memorial. But it was not from anyone at the KH I last attended. It was from the widow of a JW friend of mine who died last year. He knew and she knows I don't go to meetings anymore, but I never went into detail about why. I really haven't had contact with them for a number of years. Anyhow, she gave me the times and places since there are now 3 congs. meeting in the KH. This was the KH I attended before 1997. Knowing her, this call was sincere and from her heart. She has called me three times since his death last year and I did talk to her once, but only about how her husband was the only JW I could rant to. He was disgusted about things too but stayed loyal to it all. Then when I checked my caller ID, there was a number I didn't recognize. Looked like a mobile phone number with no name attached and no message left on voice mail. I have a feeling it was from the PO of the last cong. I went to. A few years ago he would catch me off guard by calling and I would answer all my calls. That was before I got caller ID. Once the caller ID was installed and I knew who was calling, his number was always blocked and I didn't know who it was, but when I answered...............BOOM......it was him. So then I used the feature that gave the announcement that I will not accept blocked calls and that put an end to him or whoever calls with a blocked number. He didn't have the nerve to call with his name and number showing. It has been a year since he called (the week of memorial) ...probably from another phone that isn't blocked. And in the past two weeks, I had three other calls from unknown numbers with no message left. HMMMMMMMMMMMMM! What really gets me is........Why would an "outstanding" JW have his phone number blocked? For the simple reason to catch his fellow dubs, or in my case a faded dub off guard? Or does he have something else to hide? HappyDad

  Shunning in the 60's

  as you know i just returned from visiting my great-aunt whom i hadn't seen in 40 years (she's still a jw).

  i asked her if she shunned my mother when she was disfellowshipped in 1964. she said they society did not promote shunning at this time.

  is this true?

  However, even after reinstatement, his position will never again be quite the same. He has broken a precious trust and cannot be given oversight in the congregation. Hence, he suffers the loss of servants? privileges on earth irrevocably.

  I have to laugh a laugh of disgust at this. In 1966 my cousin's wife was df'd along with the married "brother" who was banging her. My cousin left the religion and never came back. The two adulterers were reinstated about 2 years later to the fanfare of the cong. and most of all other JW's who knew them. These two went on to become the "wonderful" theocratic husband and wife who had their asses kissed by everyone (especially new ones who didn't know their background) and were the center of the social scene.

  This guy went on to become the PO of our cong. in the mid 1980's and from what I hear, still is the PO. He's the one I had some run-ins with and probably the main reason I stepped down in 1991. The policies of this religion suck!

  As for my cousin, he was never the same since. He lost a successful business and became a raging alchoholic who is now clean and sober in his later years.

  Did JW males keep their hair long in the 70's?

  i noticed a couple of pics of the guys on jw.com that some of you kept your hair long in the 70's.

  i can't picture any of you guys getting away with and still being considered "in good standing" with anything that drooped below the ears.

  Well.........YES!

  My hair was longer in the 70's because I had hair then.

  Always kept it about 1/3 over my ears and parted in the middle. Along with my mustache. The style of the day!

  Never had anything said at all........and I was a MS then and gave talks and all.

  although i don't go to meetings anymore, i usually go to the memorial.

  but this year, i couldn't go even if i wanted to..... my jw clothes don't fit me anymore.... i certainly won't spend 200$ just to go to one meeting.....

  I got rid of a lot of my "dress" clothes since I faded. Suits, pants, shirts and sports coats. At one time I had quite a wardrobe but not anymore.

  Guess I got rid of most of it because I got too fat. Kept a few sports coats just in case, but I can't button any of them.

  Used to be fit...........now nothing fits.

  Zev,

  That Titan DX is the same antenna that I've been thinking about getting. Was it much of a project to get it all together?

  I need to get my station back on the air again too. Icom 735. Once I do, we will have to have a rag chew.
