Was John Denver the Anti-Christ?

when i was a kid in the seattle area in the late '70's, i heard this rumor told many times: before all his concerts, john denver would ask if there were any jehovah's witnesses present, and then ask them all to leave(of course whoever was telling the story knew of someone who had experienced this first hand).

also, johnny carson confronted him about it on the tonight show once(carson often figured into the jw/celebrity rumours i heard as a kid), and when denver admitted that it was true, johnny asked him to leave.

apparently, several witnesses worked on his show and this greatly offended him.

Hi 6669 and welcome to the board.

This topic was started in January and there were all kinds of comments. One in particular said that it was true, but who really knows?

Hi all, this is my first time posting here.
I am an x-jw who was one for 23 years, my parents were for 45+ years and my entire family left 10 years ago. I was actually df'd because I chose my boyfriend over the truth, but then after I got married, I tried to come back and did for a little while, but then my whole family got fed up with the misteachings and we all left and am glad for it.
As for the truth behind this legend, yes it is true, I saw and remember the episode quite well. I remember how my whole family used to listen to JD and had his albums, and then when this happened, it tainted our enjoyment of his albums and we through away his 8 tracks and never listend to him again.

Again, the Best Turkey Ever.

like everyone this time of year when the weather is getting warm, thoughts turn to turkey.. i buy a small turkey around twelve pounds and do a high-heat chef marc turkey.

but before i do that, i brine it over night in salt water, onions and herbs.. it's to die for.. ok, the kitchen gets unbearably hot for a while, but then you have all this wonderful moist turkey to make cold sandwiches with.

try it, and you will never cook a turkey the old way again.. j

If two elders showed up at your front door

and asked do you accept the faithful and distreet slave as jehovahs channel on earth (or something similar to that) what would you say/do?.

i would laugh my ass off and slam the door in their face.

this really happened to a friend of mine a long time ago.

I just don't answer the door when I look through the peephole and see that it is dubs. They haven't been here for well over a year or so now. Haven't even seen any door to door work in this very populated area for a long time.

Some Saturday morning I should take a ride past the KH to see how many cars are there for fs.

Ever since I bought my first Harley 3 years ago, I've wanted to get a tat.

Problem is.......I can't find what I want. What I'm looking for is a wild horse standing on his hind legs, bellowing out steam from his nostrils and with a mean look in his eyes.

I remember seeing a drawing like this many years ago on a cover of a western novel I was reading.

I want to get this tat on my right calf......in plain view.

If anyone has a drawing like this........I'd appreciate seeing it.

well i am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.

i had fully intentioned to disassociate myself from the platform today, but i decided that if i wanted a chance to save my marriage that i'd better tell my wife.

she immediately went to to one of the elders.

Matt..........I will carry you as much as you need to be carried at this time. What you did took a lot of courage. I'm happy that your mom is loving you enough to keep the bond of mother/son. And I will pray that your wife will keep loving you and also see the folly of the WT society.

As an ex elder who gave talks at other KH's, assembys and conventions, I know what you meant about the feeling of not wanting to lose what you felt when you did these things.

Even now........there are some I miss. But that was in my past life. You will continue to live well no matter how much good or bad comes down the road.

One last thing..........you are not a hypocrite. JW elders wearing blinders to the truth are!

do you think that someone's socio economic status determines how they get treated (behaved to) by the jws?

can someone high up the ladder get away with more things especially if he made big donations to the society and do they look down upon those lower down?

From my over 30 years of experience, I have to say........of course! The dubs that had money, fab houses, etc., from inheritance or business, or coming into the truf after getting a college degree had their arses kissed clean by the faithful........as long as they followed the organizational rules.....field service, excellent meeting attendance, etc.

It seemed to me that the average lower income, struggling to make ends meet dub thought that being friends with someone of this stature, made them feel they were up the ladder of associates just because they knew such ones.

I have never seen this done. To the contrary.......I have seen a couple of "high up the ladder" dubs get DF'd or reproved because of wrongdoing..........regardless of their position or money. In my area, I must say that the majority of the dubs, from the lowly to the uppity, followed the rules. I still don't have much animosity for individual dubs, including the ones who hurt my family. Their motto is....."Ve vere chust vollowing ordeerrzzzzzzz!" I am one of those ex's who has forgiven........but I cannot nor will not forget the ones who caused hurt for me and mine. They are just as I once was.......victims of a cult!

What would make me really happy is to find out that some........or even one of them has seen the truth about the truf.

Banning Alcohol

Holy shite!!!!!!!!!!

I learn something new almost every day. Now I understand why the rastafarians use it.

The issue of smoking always baffled me. No smoking but alchohol was ok. It was said that there was "food value" in alchohol. I became one of those elders who wound up drinking to excess and causing my family misery. The pressures of JW life push so many into a booze fog cause they have no other way of dealing with the stress of it. At least I realized I had a problem and went to Alchoholics Annonymous. About a year later I resigned as an elder when I saw that "worldly" people weren't all that bad. They treated me better than any JW ever did. Thus the beginning of my internal questioning of the "truf."

Four Years and Then?

i took my wife out for breakfast this morning and on the way back home as we walked through the park about 10:30 am, we saw the group doing park witnessing.

i approached two elders and greeted them, this, after four years of not hearing anything from them.

it was just as if it was yesterday, nothing has changed.

Btw, the sisters gave us a big hug, not just a hand shake, even though I just held out my hand respectfully, no handshake, you get a big hug, we missed you.

I've had the same thing before, but haven't seen any of them for about 2 years now. "We miss you, come back." But what about the the previous 4 years? They miss us about as much as we miss them. The only difference is.........they are so SHALLOW.
