  Herbert W. Armstrong - memories

  an ad that appears when viewing certain pages on the jwd web site refer to herbert w. armstrong - and his religion.. i remember this fella... not personally - but through the radio - and his preaching that he used to do on the air.. i remember tuning in a radio station - far far away (when i was a kid) - in del rio, tx (or perhaps across the border in mexico - xerf?).

  he would get air time, and then preach - for what seemed like hours - although, i'm sure that it was only a 30 minute spot - or perhaps an hour-long spot of air-time.. i even seem to remember telling my mom at the time how much he sounded like jehovah's witnesses - in what he was preaching about.. i also remember my mom defending the jws - saying - essentially - that herbert armstrong was a kook.

  armstrong had his own set of literature... i really think that he was a 'subscriber' to jw literature... and probably stole many ideas from the watchtowers... or other publications that he could get his hands on.. or... perhaps it's the other way... perhaps the jws 'borrowed' from his literature.. in any case... it brings back memories.. regards,.

  In the early 1980's I would occasionally listen to Armstrong on the radio. I even called their number and started getting the Plai Truth magazine. When the magazine came, my wife was in a rage about it but I denied everything and said that someone I worked with must have put my name in.

  Anyhow, I remember reading one of his articles where someone asked if he had ever been a JW and he said that he never had been associated with JW's at all but he would read their literature as well as literature from various denominations.

  Back then, another JW "brother" and I would discuss what the WWCOG (Armstrong) had to say, and we agreed that he was really close the the "truth".

  I don't know about my friend but I always wished we (JW's) could embrace some other type of tactics other than door to door and always putting our religion on page one to everyone we met.

  Edited to say: To those who ever read his magazine, he really loved to publish pictures of himself with world leaders......as if they really gave a rat's a$$ about him.

  I thought what Brenda did was rude, cheap, ignorant, childish, and any other negative words there are to describe a lack of toilet training on her part.

  A lot of good comments were made, but this one is saying it for me.........

  I thought it was rude and juvenile.

  Just because many of us may see the man behind the curtain and realize the WTS is a sham, it doesn't change the fact that the people who go to the hall and choose to believe in the JW system have as much right to their memorial celebration as any other religion has the right to their rituals without some disgruntled louse coming in and acting in such a disrespectul way.

  My eulogy for my father yesterday

  my father died last monday, the 4th at the age of 82. he had suffered from severe alzheimers for the last few years.

  his funeral was yesterday.

  as my brother and i made the arrangements (my mother died in 2003) he suggested and i agreed that we would each give a eulogy.

  Lenny,

  I'm so sorry about your father. What you said at the eulogy was great. I hope that your family continues a long and loving relationship with you.

  This is very similar to my life.......walking away from family and friends to be a JW for 30 years. There have been times when I went to my father's grave and just talked to him and told him how sorry I was for ignoring him for all those years. I can't go back but I hope I can make a difference to those still living.

  i'm going in for a routine checkup at the behest of my partner.

  she was shocked i've never been tested, and i said well i have no symptoms, i wear condoms, and had very few partners, so i didn't think it was necessary.

  really how bad is the "q tip"???

  After reading Avishai's reply to my thoughtless response, I want to apologize to everyone, especially bluesbreaker59.

  Oh, and Happy Dad? What would you rather have him do? Do you KNOW his history? Maybe his wife cheated on him, and he wants to get checked. Or other events he had no control over. Have you ever had sex? Yes? If so, then shutup. No one can say 100% that who they've been with has been faithful unless you lock them up in a closet.

  Once again I put my mouth (so to speak) in gear before engaging my brain. Thanks for calling me on that Avishai. I didn't think at all before I responded. I would want to do the same thing now that my understanding has been activated.

  Time for HappyDad to take some 'think before you reply' lessons!

  i just dont think i can take it anymore....my wife of 11 years is such a great gal... but we are just not connecting anymore......otwo says hang in there...as she may come around and wake up!!

  !....but the extreme differences in our lifes are starting to take a toll...and may be making me want to drink too much.....i should not need to self medicate like this!!

  !.....soooooo wish i had never woken up or could just deal with the real truth....what a rock to my world.......nothing will be the same.................................................oompa.

  For God's sake man.......quit being Oompa's enabler. The man definitely needs professional help.........not half assed.....feel good words from well meaning friends.

  I really hope the day comes when Oompa is clean and sober and looks back on these posts to see how insane he is and how his so called friends thought they were being helpful to him.......but in their unknowing (about alcholism) minds....they did him more harm than good.

  Let him go dammit. Let him self-destruct if if he won't even listen to you........one who is trying to help!

  Right now......and even in his previous posts.........all Oompa wants is an audience. Everyone is trying to help but he doesn't want help. He wants a magic wand to solve the problems that he is bringing on himself. That is not possible!

  Quite frankly........he is wearing thin on this board. Maybe that is my own opinion, but I know there are others who agree the same!

  No plan for two years.....but oompa is taking his life back!!!

  one day at a time....and have found what may be an incredible ally in this quest.

  someone who has kicked depression and booze and has even helped sober her dad up and he is a pitiful story.....jw....multi-millionair elder/pioneer who lost it all....due to bi-polor and booze....was in prison for two years on booze crimes, but has now been sober for almost three years.....his daughter is an incredible woman massage therapist, and also teaches holistic healing.....don't know a lot about that, execept i have been helped a lot by accurpuncture and they take this holistic approach...bit btw here.....angie has helped totally awaken her dad and brother!!!!

  i am so excited to have found someone who wants to help me, thinks they can, and have sooooo much in common with and i will let you know if she can walk on water.............i am taking back my life!!!

  I really hope you are right for your sake.

  The first and main thing you need to realize is that you are an ALCHOLIC........and nothing good will take place in your life until you surrender to that fact.

  Quit being an ass and get the help you need. You keep doing the same thing day after day and expect different results. That's the definition of insanity.

  Unless you do something for yourself.............YOU WILL DIE!

  None of us here on JWD wants to see that happen to you.

  Oompa,

  I've been there a long time ago. I thought my problems were the worse things ever but learned my biggest problem was alchohol. Once the alchoholism was put in check, the problems weren't so big at all. An alchohol clouded brain turns mole hills into mountains.

  If anyone here is as old as I am and remembers the 1960 Presedential campaign between Nixon and JFK.......Nixon's major cliche was "EXPERIENCE COUNTS". JFK was the newbie and he still won. So please don't sell Obama short.

  Nixon finally won in the 1970's and look what his EXPERIENCE accomplished.

  I have been mainly conservative since leaving the JW's but I can't find it in me to support any Republican these days. I will take Obama over Hillary any day.
