have any of you thought of going to college since you left the jw's?

now that its not forbidden and you are free to do what you want .... it should not matter how old you are.

i know...... you think: i am 35 or 40 or 52, go to college?

The University of Phoenix is great and accredited. My daughter who turned down scholarships because of "it wouldn't be right for a JW to go to college" started with UOP last year and is going for her marketing degree. She is 33 yrs. old now, working full time and with a man and a mortgage in Florida. She got some Pell grants, student loans and me.....HappyDad $$$$. And I am more than happy to help her do this. I'm also glad she is out of the "tower" too!

Weird habits and trends of JW's

it seemed like from what i remember the jw's were always looking into so many alternative medicines and fad diets.

and those easy money schemes, does anyone remember these?

instead of just getting a college education they spent so much time looking into job alternatives.

Anyone remember Ron Soliday?

there are very few circuit overseers that i remember from my childhood, however i remember ron soliday basically because of a talk he gave in kentucky back in the early 1980's.

in this talk he basically painted a grim picture of what the year 2000 held in store for earth and went on and on about how scientists predicted this catastrophe and that, but in the end he stated "thankfully the new system should be here by then" just something i thought i would share with you all.

I remember Ron Soliday,

He was our CO here in the Pittsburgh area. Not sure if it was late 1980's or early 90's. I'm picturing what he looked like but can't remember much about him. By the late 1980's my mind was already leaving the WT even though I was an elder until about 1991. By the late 1980's I couldn't stand the CO's when I realized they weren't concerned about cong. problems.......just their own agenda.

I think all CO's are told to keep the motto: "Don't rock the boat.....just be sure to encourage the dubs to do more".

people who are alive, are dead.. in their half witted brain washed wtbts indoctrination, they are taught that they have to shun people they love if they find themselves out of the borg's good graces.

doesn't matter what the 'crime' is, could be simply disagreeing with something in a wt article, could be any one of a million things.

it's not always the "big f" that gets people disfellowshipped.

Well said and to the point..............many on this board can and have helped some to understand who/what/and where they are in life and what you just stated is very helpful.

What you and others say can be and most likely has been more beneficial than going to a therapist who doesn't understand what cults do to the mind of individuals.

hello again, forum members.... well, as many of you have suggested, i?ve been reading, and reading, and reading... i?ve even purchased the book several of you recommended, "crisis of conscience.

" it should be delivered next week.

some of your stories are absolutely heart-wrenching.

I'm no longer a part of the WT society that I gave most of my life to but I still love God and still worship him.......Only now I go to a Christian church and tomorrow morning will be there for the service.

For me personally.........I want this relationship with Jesus Christ. There are many different opinions on this board and I respect what each one believes today. The WT brainwashing has done a lot to our minds and we are all on a journey.

But my soapbox statement is..................."get to KNOW the real Jesus........not just know about him the WT way.

A letter to my parents... tell me what you think.

) and i have been thinking about sending them a letter in responce.

Your letere is absolutely beautiful. I just hope and pray that your family reads it all and sees what they have done.

How would I have reacted years ago if my kid sent something like that? I'm not sure but it would definitely make me think about my actions. Today.......I know that I will never shun anyone.....because a few old dried out cronies in Brooklyn want to rule the world.

I wish you the best and hope for a reuniting of your family.

What First Stumbled You?

what was the very first thing that "stumbled" you?

mine was: i was about 5 or 6 years old and of course i used to find it really hard to find things in my bible at meetings (couldn't find the books quick enough before they moved onto the next paragraph and used to get frustrated).

i had the idea to make little tabs for the edges of the pages so i could tell where the books were - so i asked mum to help me neatly write out the book names on tiny slips of paper and tape them inside.

A lot of things stumbled me but one of the main things that bothered me was when the WT article said that my "personal salvation" was directly connected to how much "witnessing" I did............total BS. And that article was repeated a few years ago.

Another thing that really got me mad was about a month after my wife died. I was friends with a much older brother from another KH. He told me horror stories about what was going on in his KH. (that KH was disbanded a few years back because of decades of dictator manipulation ( you know .....family operated.....elders and ms's and of course the wanting to be somebody wives of the power hungry) enforcing all their own rules............anyhow ......in talking to this bro..........I refered to my late wife as "my wife".........he immediately.........in a raised voice told me........"Bill ...you have to stop refering to her as your wife. She isn't your wife anymore. She is dead and that ended any claim of marriage." How insensitive!
