Three women die together in an accident
and go to heaven.
When they get there, St. Peter says, "We only have one rule here in heaven: don't step on the ducks!"
So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first woman accidentally steps on one.
Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest man she ever saw.
St. Peter chains them together and says, "Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly man!"
The next day, the second woman steps accidentally on a duck and along comes St. Peter, who doesn't miss a thing. With him is another extremely ugly man. He chains them together with the same admonishment as for the first woman.
The third woman has observed all this and, not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly man, is very, VERY careful where she steps.
She manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, but one day St. Peter comes up to her with the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on ... very tall, long eyelashes, muscular, and thin
St. Peter chains them together without saying a word.
The happy woman says, "I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all of eternity?"
The guy says, "I don't know about you, but I stepped on a duck!"

Does anyone else take Atenolol or Nitro-Glycerine?
by ohiocowboy ini just got back from the doctor yesterday after discovering that my angina and valvular regurgitation from mitral valve prolapse are getting worse, and the angina lasting longer, and getting more intense.
i was on calan-(verapamil), but have now been switched to atenolol and nitro.
i was prescribed the nitro before, but never used it, as i was afraid to take it.

Ohiocowboy,
I have been searching the net about the Atenolol, and the side effects are kinda scary.
I am on atenolol, hztc (spelling) for water retention and enalapril for high blood pressure. Been on the meds for 3 years and don't like the side effects. First of all........my left ankle is always swollen.........second........I don't like what else it does... (look at my new avitar and put two and two together) And I find it hard (hardly..no pun intended) to talk to my Dr. about it since she is in her 30's.....5' 10"........blond hair down to the small of her back...........and looks like the model they patterned Barbie doll after.
I'm angry with myself for even going to the Dr. about "borderline" high bp and now I'm afraid to stop the meds for the reason you give. I'm now checking the bp daily and experimenting with weaning myself off of the junk. What can help the most is losing another 40 pounds and I now have the motivation. I lost 16 lbs. in the last 2 months and am doing it slow. When my wife died in 1996.....I was real healthy and was 187 lbs. Just goes to show what stress eating, inactivity and bs can do! And now.......life has come back to me and I really hope I can get off the meds.
Oh.......and btw.......your topic brought back to mind......in 1992 I had an (what do they call the sonar scan) oh yeah...echocardiogram and was told I had a leaking mitrol valve. They said it is common, but a blood infection could make it worse. So even when I go to the dentist I have to pre-med.
Keep us posted on what is going on with you.

Is It True That Since Leaving The JWs That You're Totally Angry & Unhappy?
by minimus inthe watchtower tries to say that "apostates" are in a bedarkened environment.
they are looking for "true freedom" which they say does not exist.

A Letter from A Witness
by cruzanheart inone of my witness friends in england told a friend of hers out in service about how i'm not going to meetings anymore, what a shame, etc., etc., so this well-meaning little person decided she wanted to write me a letter.
i asked why, and she told me the story of this young man.
remember how i was able to leave the matter of my husband?s relationship with jehovah in his hands?

WOW Nina,
Thanks for the letter and thank you...............I need to read something like this from time to time to let me know that I did the right thing.........leaving such an unloving organization. The same unkind and unloving aura exists in all KH's everywhere..........they just don't know it.

I need HELP!!!!!!!!!
by Samdownunder incan anyone relate and help with the nagging doubts that it really was the"truth" and we are all doing the wrong thing and being misled.
i have read a lot of information to sway me from the witnesses and to think it is only a man made religion, but still i fear i could be wrong and going against god.
how do you all deal with this feeling that surely most have experienced.

Ditto Billygoat,
It's not so strange to have my whole future ahead. It's actually freeing. Now instead, I have years to focus on enjoying life as God meant it to be enjoyed. Animals, nature, friendships, reading the bible. I have not given up on God. I go to a church and am actively involved in it. I don't agree with everything they teach, but I'm allowing myself the rest of my life to get my own opinion on those beliefs. What's the rush? I realized it was not The Truth? when the love they bragged about having, just never showed itself. I found more love and kindness with worldly people than behind the walls of a Kingdom Hall. God is gentle and loving. He would never treat his child the way those people treated their own. THAT'S what made me realize it wasn't The Truth?.
Sam......relax and stay awhile.........you will find where you belong in life.

My first time here
by Samdownunder inhi i was just wondering, is it really different being in the witness religion as a full- fledged member than when you are studying with them.
are you treated differently or is all this "control" people talk about over exaggerated?

Welcome Sam, Be grateful you found Freeminds and this board BEFORE you get baptized. Get ready for a learning experience that will OPEN your free thinking mind. A free thinking mind is something the WT doesn't want you to have. I was in the religion for over 30 years and was an elder. I have some credibility as to the bs that is done on the congregation level. We always heard from the CO during his visit that each congregation has it's own personality. That is the polite way of saying that some congs. have IDIOTS in charge. IDIOTS WHO aren't smart enough to be SOMEBODY in any other endeavor of life. They think they are being spiritual and intellectual but all they are doing is being a pain in the ass of the life of the sheep like followers who need all of the prayers we can give them so they can have open eyes also. Enjoy the growing experience, HappyDad

New to this..
by Hoofie inhey
forgive me for not knowing the appropriate etiquette on these boards...i've been df'd for 8 years now but still searching for friends who really understand how long it takes to get the whole jw thing out of your skin.... am kinda hoping i can meet some mutual minds on here!
you sound like a friendly bunch .

Welcome Hoofie,
You will find this board to be very good therapy. We have had our minds conditioned (polite word for brainwashed) for years and some like myself for decades. As I once heard......"time takes time" and only time can help all of us to recover to the extent each of us needs. Like a cancer.....we will always have some thoughts of what we once believed, but there is a BETTER life beyond the WT.
Sit back.......relax.........and enjoy the show.........you will get soooooooo much info here that you will have to pick and choose what may help you for whatever belief or non belief you may have at this time.
Enjoy and be happy,
